when I was 16 my old man wanted me to learn how to operate his 40ft Insley dragline so I could load sand and pit run gravel while he dozed the driveways, I good ass chewing for dumping it on the cab of his 6yd dump truck but i finally got good enough to do it. Man ,those were the days!! now its all GPS! at least the gal that replaced me when i retired worked with me when we marked out the footing lines by hand with string lines and stakes and had to use blueprints. Very proud of that hard working woman! this is for you Amanda Brown. :}
I have a 22RB and it's ALL manual levers No air controls .. That is definitely gives you a workout... especially when working in over 100°F like we have here in Australia. We call the the 2 main controls hoist and drag ropes. My machine has a Ruston Hornby 6cyl Air cooled motor. Love your crane . Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2025.
I am a retired crane operator. I ran a 597 plus other small draglines for 38 years. I also did a lot of hook work in various machines. I started learning friction machines, then when the juice squeezers came into play it took all the fun out of it for me. To operate a friction machine takes lot of skill and tallent. You have good skills my friend. Hearing that slobering 4-71 fire up is a very familiar sound to me. If you are not using ear protection I suggest you do. I ran many machines with a Detroit in them. my ears have been ringing for decades.
Do you sleep with the radio or tv on. Dam tinnitus drives me crazy especially at night kinda makes me regret that I straight piped every truck I owned.
I have an old American crawler with a Bucyrus Eries boom and dragline. Smaller model. I’m not sure what model it is. Any chance you could help me identify
Nice video, I like seeing old equipment still being used. I I’m using a 1965 Koehring 405 dragline. It has manual clutches. Those northwest machines seem like they are good machines.
@@schmittyballs My tinnitus is screaming at you to wear hearing protection. I started to late but find someone local that molds custom ear plugs they are by far the most comfortable and effective short of wearing headphones

Until you sit in a friction crane, you have no idea how difficult it is to have control
They are like riding a bicycle.
Once you get the hang of it you never forget.
Very impressive operator.
Those equipment has no electronic components. With regular professional maintenance, they , definitely, will live forever.
You make it look easy !!
Where is the drag?
Who was the guy that ran dragline for Duesinberg
He could load 631 scrapers

I wouldn't mind having a go at it
What make of Dragline is it?
American 597
The crane looks rather like a P&H model 670.
