- For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ Here's an amp I'd never really thought about checking out until the Helix model came along. The Orange Rockerverb is a name that I've heard a fair bit, but I've never really known exactly what to expect if I plugged one in. Until today. And it's pretty glorious I think!

I love how every single thing he plays through sounds EXACTLY the same.
Great demo, dude.
It is very surprising how versatile the Rockerverb is. The Mkiii is even better 😉👍
Without a doubt my favourite amp I’ve ever played. Welcome to the club 👍
No fair!
You make everything sound fantastic and I start GAS’ing for new gear!
Just amazing sounds from the orange. I have some Orange’s in the AXE FXIII and Helix, but this is just terrific!
Going to go to the modelers right now and see how close I can get to achieving these tones.
Best to you always! ✌🏼
Great playing as always, but now you know you're going to have to do an A/B comparison between this amp and it's modeled version in HX Stomp (which might not have it?) and Fractal (which I believe does). That'd be very interesting to see!
The Helix has the Rockerverb Mk 3 100w but supposedly the drive channels are quite similar, will see what I can do!!
Helix isn’t close..
@@johnnathancordy would probably get a ton of views
I have the Rockerverb 50 mkiii with the built-in attenuator. It’s the most versatile amp I own and I love it. Nice demo and playing and it’s always great to hear the “in the room” tones. Cheers.
That intro solo was epic John, can really see your progress over the last 18 months, great review but was only here for the intro improv lol!
Love your playing!
Great tones from those fingers and amp but you have the smoothest tasteful style bro. Really love it.
Sounds great!
Great playing! Especially on the clean!
Sounded REALLY good. I may have to buy one.
man that looks like the amp for you. Does all of your signature tones with a bit of added character.
Awesome sound
Man that sounds killer.
I've used the Crush Pro 120 in a Metal applucation for a little while, and i've always found if you use a parametric or a graphic EQ in the FX loop to bump up the treble it gets just enough high end fizz to compete with say a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec or a Peavey 6505+.
It a great amp!! One trick I use is to turn the bass down to 9 o’clock and middle up to 3 o’clock and it helps to tame some of the bass on the dirt channel. And the clean is a great pedal platform!!!
Nice demo. Rockerverb 50 MKII user myself. Classic rock to Stoner/Doom. Like how you used the reverb. I have the 2 button footswitch. With the reverb clicked off you can turn the reverb knob up and add resonance in it's place.
Cheers.
The Sweetwater Studios capture of this amp for the Quad Cortex is erm, pretty sweet.
I'm convinced tone is in the playing, much more than the gear.
My last tube amp was a rockerverb mkii 50 combo. I liked it a lot but was a little too big for me to move on my own and really didn’t use it that much after I got helix, so I eventually sold it to fund a guitar.
I had a Mesa roadster. Loved the chugga chugga and versatility but not enough note definition at higher gain. Got a RV MKIII and it was really great. Got the note definition but unfortunately it didn’t have the face smashing chugga chugga like the Mesa. Did my research and landed on a Mesa Boogie Triple Crown. Haven’t looked back. I now have the best of both. (Note: this is for my style, which is pop punk & Prog metal w some ambient sprinkled in). Oh and the TC also does the Hendrix plexi thing when using my strat really well. Cleans are great too for jazz and blues when the mood strikes. Highly recommend that amp to anyone
What an intro solo. Damb. ❤
I got an Orange Rockerverb 100 MKii a few months ago, and have to say I absolutely love it. I play heavy/stoner/grunge rock and various types of metal, and this amp does it all. I've found that an EQ pedal in the loop as a clean boost helps to tighten up the gain more and adds extra aggression for metal. Your playing is really great, and it's nice to see this amp being demo'd in a different way than I use it. Do you still have it? Are you still enjoying it?
Really like those clean tones around 4:22. (And I agree that the reverb is way better than the built-in Mesa reverb.)
one of the best clean amps on the market. hoping the clean channel makes its way to the helix eventually
One of the best amps in general.
I played one of these MK2 as my main rig for a couple of years. Glorious tones. And it is a VERY heavy amp that sent me partially towards digital modelling just because I got sick of carrying it around.
Did you have a combo?
@@johnnathancordy yes. The combo.
The Mandarin (Orange) is one of my favorite Amps on the HX Stomp. I had first heard an Orange on the SDS Channel, and really liked its tone. It does good cleans, dirt and everything in between, and has a lot of power. Another Amp I've heard on SDS that you might like even more are the different models by Hughes & Kettner - Maybe one of the most versatile Amps I've heard.
Seconded.
I wanna hear some P90’s through this amp
Nice thick tone. What are you using for a cabinet; real or simulated?
I do have a Rockerverb Mk II as well. I went looking for an amp and spent weeks trying various things like JCM800, JCM2000, Dual Rect, etc. Someone asked me if I had tried Orange and I said I wasnt into Classic Rock tones.. because thats what I figured the target audience was with the name and look. I reluctantly plugged in and was blown away at the gain from bluesy breakup to heavy metal. I bought it but my only regret is that the EL34 Brit amp doesnt take pedals like its cousin the JCM800. I am looking for something else now that does play well with pedals.
i also do enjoy the cleans of the orange amps very much. despite hearing so many negative things about it. nice playing as well of course!
Jimmy Page rocks an AD30, he gets beautiful cleans
This sounds much better than the modeling too.
I associate Orange with the kind of heavily overdriven, metal-ish tone of your intro (which is not something I'm much interested in). So I was really surprised to hear how totally lovely the clean tones were, and how nice the reverb is on clean tones. It almost seems too smooth to be a spring reverb. I'm also surprised at how touch-sensitive it is in that edge-of-breakup setting you used around 12:00. Nice! -Tom
I wasn't at all sure what to expect - I think I was expecting a very loud, stiff fuzzy kind of thing?
But yeh, the clean channel is uber-clean, the Reverb is wild, and the fuzzy gain tones are super easy to play!
@@johnnathancordy Thanks for your supernice demo. Enjoyed that! I play a RV MKI head (in black, sorry, but with the 4x6V6's) for years in all kind of bands, mostly coverbands. I mainly use a HSS-strat. If you know how to work with the 4 gainstages on the drivechannel a lot of tones can be obtained. By example: gain on 10-11 o'clock, strat neckpickup, dime the guitars volumeknob a little, add some analog delay - great for chimey airy solonotes. The clean channel is great too. I use the EP-booster a lot on it.
The MKII actually put a Mid knob of the clean channel, my MKI doesn’t and it could desperately use one. Still, love the Rockerverbs to death ❤️
hey John, i don't know your neighbors so I don't mind if you crank this puppy higher!!! lol - nice demo and really nice playing !!! cheers !
I just got one 8 months ago I got the combo and it’s incredible. I stack it with the rocker 32 and it sounds even more glorious such a beautiful sonic experience.
How heavy is that thing tho
@@johnnathancordy lol pretty heavy definitely will need two people to carry it. Worth it though. Don’t underestimate the power of that attenuator though
@@dorianford6227 this is mark 2 so no attenuator for me king!
@@johnnathancordy ahhh huge bummer 😞 Still sounds Bomb MKII is 6V6 power amp tubes right???
@@dorianford6227 nah el34 switchable for kt88 - I think the mark 1 is 6v6
Check out Tubesteader Sunkeeper pedal (tube preamp similar to Rockervrb)
If anyone wants the drive channel alone and something smaller the Jim Root Terror has the same preamp as this bu only the one channel and EL84 instead of EL34. Cheap tho
Wonderful amp indeed
It's a crazy little thing!!
@@johnnathancordy you looked like you were having fun. That new amp feels you get when they are good. Seemed more fun than when you got the dumble clone
@@azzazelo for sure, this thing is just super easy to play and has all the gain ha
@@azzazelo actually the Dumble clones I've bought (Ceriatone, VHT) have all been kinda stiff and spikey at the volumes that I'm comfortable subjecting the wife and dogs to
@@johnnathancordy it doesn't hurt that the breakup is musical and that the knobies do work
Sounds lush, are you using the load box then straight into an interface?
Loadbox is going into Hx stomp which is just running an IR
They sound like a fuzz pedal
One of the best amps there is
A helix? Really
I much prefer hearing how it sounds in the room. Give you a better feel for how it would sound if you bought one.
What pickups do you have on this blue strat?
Lollar dirty blondes!
I was going to get one of these but in the states these are outrageously expensive..
Welcome to our world for absolutely everything American that is remotely cool 😂
Yeh - a very rare example of a piece of gear made in England lol - we don't do much of it anymore!
I bet it sounds good with the Telecaster.......
I love my Rockerverb. Ill never let it go. So versatile from cleans, rock, high gain metal pair with a OD. Does it all. Congrats John. Enjoy it.
(Favorite artists that uses one is def Jim Root of Slipknot)
Does that strat have pretty low output pickups?
Did you acquire that Orange from Peach?
Waaaaheey. Also, show your brothers mate this vid?

Orange amp record great but in person I dont like the feel of it under my hands
Ah man I love the feel of it, I was expecting stiffness but it's just super easy to play?
@@johnnathancordy i find it a bit fizzy and nasal in person, but every recording of orange amps sounds Amazing!
How can you be British and not have played an Orange Amp?😂
The distortion sounds like a hudge fart. & its about time they start making valve amplifiers lighter. And by the time u change the speaker and valves u mose well buy a real amp
Next time you play a tube amp, let the tubes warm up before you play.
