Great memories brought back of my time working on the old Fairmiles in the 1970's. Both my Dad and I had our Boatman's Licences and Trinity House Pilotage Exemptions to skipper these boats. Western Lady III (RML497) is the last survivor and is undergoing extensive preservation at the Royal Navy Museum in Hartlepool. Thanks for posting.

Nice memories. I miss seeing those little ships whenever I go to Torquay. I worked aboard a few craft in 1987 and 88 there. Pride of the Dart was one of them for little while. I enjoyed 88 with the Royal Yacht and the QE2 and Concorde, a special year in my memory.

I see myself as crewman. The year of the solar eclipse. The skipper was Frank and engineer Jason. I am Mike Webber who worked as a shipwright /crewman for two seasons.
