- Hi My Lovelies! Welcome to my channel! Today, I'm doing an ART PRODUCT REVIEW on the ECOLINE WATERCOLOUR INKS/ liquid watercolours by Royal Talens
I bought these ECOLINE WATERCOLOUR INK paints a while ago and have really struggled to find out any information on their PROPERTIES since they don't come with any information from the manufacturers (ROYAL TALENS) . I have put together this review to try and put into one video, all that I could find to help out any of you out there who are curious or have thought about buying them. I hope you find it useful but if I missed anything or you have any questions, then please leave a comment in the box below!
I have really loved these liquid watercolours and I've already recorded a few videos where I used them so look out for those. Thanks for watching- please consider subscribing and I'll see you all in the next video! Sarah x

Thank you very much for this review! Only here I found detailed information about these paints!
I've been using the Ecoline ink for a while. I like that I can consistently reproduce the same color by counting the drops with the pipettes.
Hi Ben! Great idea with the pipettes! 😊
So how you produce red? Majenta and yellow?
@@artastinoble4214 Ecoline inks come in 60 different colors.
334 Scarlet is the closest thing to what I'd call red. They also have vermilion and carmine.
I bought some of these because they looked beautiful... i don't know how to work with it
I have buying problems
😊 I do that too- art supplies are just irresistible. 😃🎨
Thanks for the review Sarah I’m going to give these a try
Just got some watercolour inks as a gift and have NO CLUE how to use them. Watching this review was really informative; especially with all the different techniques for mixing. Thank you for the video!!
Hi Luckie! so glad you found it helpful! Enjoy your new watercolour inks 😊
Just bought these, didn’t really know how they worked as I needed for a online lesson. They were used but never explained so your review was very useful to me.
Thank you Adelia! So glad you found it helpful 😊
My mother got really inspired by some alcohol ink videos and bought these, but they did not do as she wanted so she gave them to me, I did not know they were not 'ink' inks but watercolours, which I know how to work with, this video has been so helpful I am not nervous to use/waste them now, thank you.
I'm so glad it was helpful Sophie- have fun with them! 😊
LOVE these!!
Ive been looking at these for a while; I love how smooth these are, huge thank you for such a thorough review.

That was a thorough review. I was wondering how they would perform compared to Dr. Ph Martin's Hydrus watercolors. You answered all of my questions especially lightfastness. Thank you!!
Crystall Pearson thank you! Comparing these watercolour inks to dr.ph Martin liquid watercolours would be a good idea for another video I think! 😊
This is a fab video. So helpful thank u xx
You're so welcome! 😊

really helpful just what i was looking for.
So glad you found it helpful! Thank you for commenting! 😊
I have been using them since 2012 and the container used to be cube like glass without a peppete lid. That changed to the current container a little after they started making the brushpens. The quality is supposed to be the same. I haven't tried the new ones yet. They are very consistent and reactiavate easily with water. I have been using them in fountain pens as well since 2014. Never had an issue even after it fully dried in the pen. I wouldnt do it in an expensive pen but there are plenty of proper fountain pen inks I also wouldnt risk in an expensive pen.
I have been wanting to buy these.... This review was very helpful...
Your voice is so calming... 😊Lovely voice
Thank you so much Manali! I really like them! 😊😍
@@SarahNewburyArt can you sometime do the possible difference between winsor and newton inks and these ones?
Thanks for that suggestion Manali! I am in the process of planning more videos so watch this space! 😊
Thank you, I just bought the old ones without pipettes, and bought small pipettes bottles, 3 for a dollar, and transferred them. The old ones are half the price. Thank you for the review.
You're welcome millana! Great idea! 😊
That's because they are old stock. If you like them grab the half price before it's gone. :)
These bottles with pipette are the new packaging and the square bottles are the old ones
I have the square ones
I saw in one of the reviews that new o es are duller and I saw in your review that the colors are not that bright as they are in old Square bottles
Anyway very nice review 😊
Thank you Sabiha - interesting- I wonder if the formula has changed then? 😊
They can be used to refill ecoline brush markers. It's a handy supplemental tool to add transparent blended grey tones in watercolor for shadow areas, etc
Hi! Great tips, thank you! 😊
Wow they are so beautifull. I am gonna but this and do manga art whit it. Thank you for this review
Thank you! Enjoy your manga art! 😊
Thanks 🥰👍🏼👋🏼😀
Super review.!
So logical.!
I subbed.!
Thank you so much! 😊😊
@@SarahNewburyArt a fellow night owl.! 🌃 🦉 😊
😃 Yay! I tried to go to sleep but alas, I am still awake- planning re arranging my art room?!- it's 3:22am 😂
@@SarahNewburyArt Same here. I switched my computer back on ...it's 3:36am....
Thank you. I was given some as a gift. Do you just use normal brushes and does it wash out ok. Does the colour rinse from a palette or do you keep palette and brushes esp for these inks and I’d heard they are very staining on your hands?
Thank you for the review and tutorial! It's very helpful for me! I am in the comtemplation state wheter should I buy this or not, and after watching this it seems I will buy the primary colors 😄
Anyway, may I ask, do whe white and black colors good? Is it worth to purchase? Thank you!
Hi Irene! Thank you for your lovely comment. I hope you have a lot of fun with these if you choose to buy them. I found the white quite opaque and the black not as dark as I would like but I love all the other colours. Let me know what you decide! 😊
The pots without the pipettes are the old ones. The new pots all have the pipette.😊
Ah Ha! Thank you! 😊
I've been using Ecoline inks for years, and though I think the pipette design is a good thing, I'm very disappointed with the new product's quality. The ink used to be much brighter and thicker!
Majenta and yellow make red?
Can they layer well? I think they will fit me better than watercolor and I am eyeing the pastels because I know watercolors that are pigment based have to be mixed with white to be pastel and I don't like the opaque look, and I know I have to dilute the watercolors for lighter tones but I just would like to have pastels on hand.
Hi! As long as you let each layer dry before adding the next one, you should be able to layer well with these! 😊
Can anyone tell whats the difference between ecoline liquid watercolour round bottle and square bottle please cause square bottle are 4 times expensive than square ones
Hi Monica! I think the round bottles with the pipettes replaced the square ones but I'm not 100% sure... 😊
Can someone explain why my black drys brown? I just got a couple of colors to try and learn how to use them and my black dries brown and I’m unsure why
Update it dries brown on paper and canvas but on paper towel or Kleenex it’s blue
Daha önce uzun müddet Ecoline ile çalıştım. Zamam içinde renkler soldu ve değer kaybetti. Yeni imal edilen Ecolin sıvı sulu boyalardan alıp kullanmak istersek bizlere renk değişikliği ve solmama garantisi verebiyormusunuz.Teşekkür ederim.
Hi! I think since Ecoline are dye based, they are more likely to fade over time compared with pigment based products (Like the Dr. Ph Martins Hydrus range). I I therefore cannot offer the guarantee you are after with the Ecoline products, sorry! 😊
Thank god I didn't give in to my spending impulse. I've decided these are not for me after seeing how they blend on the wet on wet technique
afaik if theyre dye-based they would not granulate. thats a pigment thing, not a dye thing.
why do you call them "inks"? isn't ink a different medium?
Hi Gosia! In answer to your question, I think liquid watercolours/ watercolour inks fall into a bit of a 'grey area'! Ecoline are described on the bottle as being a liquid WATERCOLOUR although unlike traditional watercolours in pans or tubes, Ecoline are DYE based as opposed to pigment based- so are also sometimes referred to as INKS! Basically, they share some properties with watercolours and some properties with inks. Hope this helps 😊
