I've been a French citizen for 20 years and have met many times more english immigrants here who can't speak French, than immigrants who can't speak english in england

Yes absolutely!!! I live in France and go to french language school. The refugees are desperate to learn and start work. The English people in my class don't appreciate it and put minimal effort in. Thanks for saying this. It makes my French partner very angry and as an English person, I'm embarrassed to be English and fully agree with him

Re council tax I have lived in my current home for 40 years and I can’t remember a year when council tax didn’t go up no matter who was in government

At best they don't know English. At worst they choose to speak a language the community they have chosen to live in doesn't understand.
@michaelgriffiths5723 you're entitiled to your own opinion but i disagree, i think being bilingual is great. Even if they speak another language they certainly can't get by just speaking it. I live in a very diverse area of London, not met a single person who couldn't speak English at all, now, writing English is completely different, but speaking it to an intelligible level is an almost universal skill, even if its broken English. Let me know if you disagree.

Just to point out the reason Wales and Scotland had huge issues with covid, was because people in England would come over on day trips because they had different restrictions, both being more touristy areas, which would then jump our covid numbers up. So basically even if his numbers that I can find zero evidence of were true. It is exactly because of England that they had it worse. I remember being in Wales when we had different restrictions to try and lower numbers here and every weekend tens of thousands of people from England would stream into the country with no restrictions coughing all over the place and then our low number spiked

Rishi Sunak reckons all 18 years olds should be forced to do 12 months of National service. Part of Sunak's national service was to represent the UK at D Day memorial service. He went awol on day two.

You increase the population but don't adequately increase the amount of housing you create a shortage.
Value is determined by scarcity.
Things in abundance are cheap.
Things of a limited supply are more expensive.
It will go to the highest bidder.

Regarding national service, what happens if, or more likely when, the army become the only ones needing anybody?
The people who procreate huge families and then live off the child and other benefits alone are not contrbuting to the economy in any way, shape or form. Ditto immigrants who suddenly bring their extended families with them and expect to receive homes and financial support.

I'm all for service Rishi. I'd just like those serving to actually WANT to BE serving! Those that wish to can already do so, those that don't, well I'm at a loss as to why anyone might want them doing something they'd rather not be doing, as I highly doubt they'd provide great service really.

I enjoy listening to LBC but turn it off at 1pm because Shelagh fogarty is the worse presenter on LBC.
We need to control our immigration. One of the reasons for Brexit, and it seems it hasn't made any differance. We are only an island, no social housing extremely unrealistic to buy housing. Very low wages for majority of people, such as carers retail, etc. NHS on the way out. We are poor relations of Europe. Its smoke and mirrors. Political popuganda.
Almost as if brexit was an undeliverable lie that wasn't of benefit at all.
Brexit was always going to make things 'worse', freedom of movement allowed people to come here to work seasonal jobs and then go home with no extra hassle, now you have to give people visas to come and work those jobs.
But besides that, migration actually isn't a problem, we have a deficit of able-bodied people in this country to the tune of over 300 thousand when you do the maths. We have an aging population and whilst the total population goes up the number of people who are able to contribute to society is dropping.
You said it yourself - we are an island. At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, if it weren't for immigration, there wouldn't be anyone here. Hate to break it to you, we are all either immigrants or children of immigrants.

Why is the UK so attractive to immigrants that they will pass through the rest of Europe and, at great financial expense, risk life & limb to get to this little island?

That caller is listening to way to much right wing propaganda and media (very little of what he said was based in any real truth) and the sad thing is he actually believes it all without question or doubt!
Sunak just did what every other countries treasurer did.. he shouldn't be getting any medals for doing it, it was the very basics of his actual job and it was required at the time.
He should not be able to use it as some sort of extra special super human above all levels of achievement, insanely extraordinary, I should be praised forever for doing it.. accolade on his CV?!
