Rule correction @ 15:23 - Having the weakest military doesn't exactly mean you go first for the next age, it means you get to choose who begins the next Age. This is explained in the "End of an Age" section of the rule book.
I'm glad that my idea got the most votes. I was just extremely overjoyed and well...Keep up the good work guys. you are what makes this channel worthwhile. And i am glad that my suggestion had helped out.
Great video, Rodney. I learned a lot here especially the almost analysis paralysis 11:15 - 12:30! Good thinking, though. It's nice of you to show us some strategy. Whether it works or not is another story! ha ha ha. Thanks.
Thanks a lot for these videos Rodney. Have been out of the hobby for the last 2 years. Used to watch you all the time back then (Mansion of Madness and LoTR LCG days). Bumbed on your videos recently and ended up on the 7W duels videos. You have convinced to jump back in the hobby. Cheers mate! Nice to see your channel big and healthy!
This video is 2 year old! I just bought this game with my girlfriend, thank you so much for making a lets play on this one, it was not very easy to get on the first read. I learn by example so this is perfect. Have a good day!
Trash the first Military card (Rodney can't afford it, Pep gets it for free). Reveal one and hope it's not too good for Pep. Pep can't afford the 7 points, so he'd have to trash that one or buy the other card. If purchase, the left-most Science is now revealed for Rodney to either buy or trash. Either way Pep doesn't get it, and nothing new revealed. Pep will now be forced to do something with the 7 points. If Pep does trash the 7 Points first thing, Rodney now has all 3 of the next hidden cards to choose from, and can continue to control the game's path from there.
+Matthew Gravelyn Pep will just sell the blue card off if Rodney grabs the Military card. He has no reason to uncover the science for Rodney, and will inevitably uncover two of those three cards for Rodney to pick from, regardless of whether Rodney picks the military.
+David Davison True, that is likely Pep's move, but Rodney can't buy the Points either, and should get rid of the Military so Pep doesn't use it to push the advantage.
Pep has no reason to allow Rodney to take the science he's aiming for. And as long as they wander down the right side, the two cards being revealed happens on Pep's turn by simple calculations.
+Matthew Gravelyn no reason to trash the red because if he allow Pep to build the red he can gain 7 point with the blue in this way he is sure to win if Pep do not win with science.
+Christian Mazzaretto EDIT: Not sure how I kept counting this wrong, but you're right, Rodney can afford the Blue. It will cost him his last coin to buy the wood, but he'll get a few points. Pep will almost assuredly build the Military at that point, again for pressure, but the revealed card may change that (if it's Science, for example). I still think there's some merit to trashing the Military, but the Points is looking much better, and may be what Rodney needs to pull ahead in the game if Pep gets a few more Science.
I don't know what exactly Rodney's next move should be, but I do know what strategy he should take through the third age. Pep will end the game if he gets his hands on two of the three science cards on the left, so Rodney should: 1. focus on taking cards on the right. This will force pep to take cards on the left if he wants the science cards, and then taking them away from him with every opportunity. 2. focus on going heavy in military. Rodney might have a chance in pushing the military tracker all the way to pep's side ending the game before pep can end it with science.
Spending 5 gold for Circus Maximus, with no grey card to trash, when the 5-point blue cost 1, and giving up the shot at an age 3 Mausoleum play... had me shouting at the screen. :-) Too much action!
6:50 I would say you get negative points if you don't get the reference, but I did make a Dredd costume for Halloween and own a decent number of the omnibus comics so I might be bias.
+The Last Phoenix The irony of this playthrough is that I never really go for science in the regular 7 Wonders. But I have a special love for "end the game early" conditions in games. So I'm having a bit of fun with it!
All people like a good underdog story, so because when I watch your videos always feels like you are the underdog i hope you win this xD. My suggestion is to construct the blue card (you can afford it, for the lumber you pay 1 and you produce the other resources, if i'm wrong trash the red card), then if Pep construct for free the military card you build or trash the middle on the second row. After that Pep will build or trash the card on the right in the second row and you trash the middle military card (otherwise Pep will take it if he will trash a card to gain money). Then Pep astonished by your tactic will surrender, no kidding :), Pep will trash the red card that cost 8 (because he will have no money to build it). In this way y will prevent him to build a red card in the third row. After that you will end the card on the right and you will be forced to build the last card on the second row (if Pep did not build it before). Now is the tricky part. If Pep build the green card on the left no problem y trash(or build) the one on the right and he will not win by a science victory, otherwise if he will build the right green card in the third row you will trash the left card then Pep will be forced to reveal to you the other green card in the fifth row and you will trash(or build) it too (remember that all the card on the right will be gone so that will be the only legal move that he can do). If Pep reveal the two science card before the cards on the right are over just trash the green card on the right. The tactic is simple, y must end the card on the right and then you can destroy the two identical green card.
+Christian Mazzaretto , One thing if you reveal another green card that Pep needs you lose no matter what you do. Not even Julius Caesar (or Giulio Cesare in italian) could win the game if you reveal another green card for Pep xD. If you reveal another green card the only thing you can do is take it and run away with it so Pep can not build it xD.
At 16:06 Pep winks and clicks his mouth at the same time. When he winks with his left eye, he clicks with the left side of his mouth (left side of lips are parted, right side of lips are sealed). When he winks with his right eye, he clicks with the right side of his mouth. However, I'm the opposite. Whenever I wink with my left eye, I click with the right side of my mouth, and vice versa. It's incredibly difficult for me to do it the same way as Pep. Rodney, when you wink and click your mouth, which way do you do it? Wink left, click left like Pep? Or Wink left, click right like me? Or can you do it both ways with equal effort? It's just a weird, interesting, phenomena.
Hey Rob, we have a tutorial video for the game that explains the rules, you'll want to check there first: ua-cam.com/video/SxQkMRUvCJ8/v-deo.html You'll find an index that can take you right to the section on yellow cards so you can see how they work.
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks for the reply, and I saw this tutorial already! Which is great, just a hard game I find with a lot of rules. I see at 2:58 he has a stone in his yellow card supply, and also a stone in his brown. So I'm just still confused on why he had to spend money. Did he pay for an extra stone because you have it in your brown card supply?
+Simon That's not how the Yellow Markets work in 7 Wonders Duel. When you have the Market card, those resources cost exactly 1 gold each that are listed on them (regardless of how many of those resources your opponent has).
Well, Pep only needs one Science that Rodney has a chance to prevent. If Pep gets ahold of the one hidden science symbol or if a science is hidden below the two sciences that are side by side, Rodney will definitely lose. Rodney's hope is in staying as far to the right of the board as he can, but this won't actually prevent the acquisition of at least one more science for Pep. Rodney is lucky to be going first this time, or there would be absolutely no stopping Pep from acquiring all the science symbols he needed in order to win.
I thought that the player with the weakest military position (or, if the military position is neutral, the player who takes the final turn in an age) got to CHOOSE who plays first in the next age? Could you clarify?
Yes, this is something we added to the description of the video back when this aired (that's usually where you'll find corrections if we have any we need to make).
Just bought this game, I don't understand the concept of wasting a card and how you decide to put it under your wonder card or put it at the top of the board
+TheGreatHamEl I do that sometimes. I'm probably just as excited as everyone else when a video comes out to see how it all got pieced together. It's an exciting process. :)
Just a quick thing I notice at 13:16, I think that Pep was suppose to pay another gold because Rodney had the grey glass works building. Unless I missed a certain card Pep had that got rid of that cost. Also, I believe Rodney should go full military on the last age and crush those egg-head scientists!!!!
At around the 3 min marker, shouldn't Pep have paid 2 coins to buy that military card? He paid one coin, but Rodney has a brown stone card. Should it have been 2 because he has the market card reducing the cost plus 1 coin because of Rodney's card?
Thanks, I didn't realize what those cards meant, I thought it was 1 just to the bank but still having to pay-up the amount your opponent had. Those cards are pretty huge in the long run it seems!
+Dregar Ironfaith I think I made myself into the underdog by going with a "science or nothing" approach. It's going to be a hard fight! The cheering is appreciated.
