That B/D thing is a game changer. I have a narrow heel and a wide forefoot and like many people when I find a boot that fits my heel it’s crushing my toes. When I find a boot that suits my toes my heel is all over the place. I need more boot makers that use this same approach that Alden uses with a narrow heel and wider forefoot.
I have the Ottawa boots. I have always wanted the Tanker boots but I can’t justify spending $700+ on a pair of boots when I work from home full-time and I barely ever leave the house. I’ve tried on the Tanker boots for fun and imo, the Ottawa’s feel nicer to me. I love the way that the Ottawa’s look and feel. They are an underrated boot that Grant Stone makes. I will be getting more of the Ottawa boots, that’s for sure.
On Alden i guess the stiching sitting flush is because it's just stiching the toe box without any actual purpose such as bringing different pieces together, not an actial moc toe? Just saying, not sure though but something to consider
4 years old and now seeing thus video , it's awesome , I see why grant stone is on par with alden boots , also I have allen edmonds higgins mill and that one is not on same level as those two , so I would like to see vidberg against grant stone or vidberg against alden Parkhurst as really great quality but it's a shame that they don't have more boots and being so quiet about there boots . I wish parkhurst can merge with another company or something .
Had you ever tried the boot shoe trees from Woodlore? I have a pair of color 8 Crockett & Jones boot (sold through Brooks Brothers) and a pair of cap toe’s boots in tan from Grant Stone. The C&J were just under $1,200, but I got them on an after Christmas sale from $650. The Grant Stones were just under $400. In both cases I have found that the boot shoe trees from Woodlore keep both of my boots in perfect condition after a wearing. I would recommend them for any boots of any expense as they really do keep them beautiful and they don’t curl up at all. Give it a thought...
I have not tried any shoe trees by that brand! I've typically used whatever shoe trees I could get the cheapest because i have a lot of boots to fill lol! I'll give the woodlore a look though, thanks for the recommendation!!
aerosurferlv Woodlore is owned by Allen Edmonds. The boot tree is called, The Boss Boot Tree. Give it a look, I just bought two pair at about $50 each.
That Goodyear welt puzzle piece on the insole is actually the outline of a full hide of leather. That's why it reads 'Genuine Leather' inside of it. Like you I'll take speed hooks over eyelets any day. One thing to note is the Grant Stone eyelets are larger and thicker than the Aldens which gives them a more casual appearance.
great comparison video. The Grant Stones hold up very well vs. the Alden boots. Can you use your influence to get Grant stone to make a boot like the Alden Jumper Boot and a boot like the MP Sherman?
Very nice job! It is apparent that you put a lot of effort into this review and comparison video. I find the level of detail including your assessment of the trimmed leather versus open leather helpful in understanding whether or not these differences reflect upon quality of the manufacturing process. Quick question. Do you have any concerns over the Grant Stone being assembled in China versus America? Any potential concerns regarding quality of the finished product?
hello sir, and thank you so much for your excellent remarks!! I have no concerns over the quality of the Grantstones, and if anything I feel that they're built as strong as Viberg Boots with an Alden-esque appearance. In fact the welt on the granstones seems to be extraordinarily sturdy. I've only had them for about a year at this point though so time will tell, but I am very confident in their quality yes
I think sole edge doesn't always indicate formality. I know on my White's, they are a very casual boot off of silhouette alone. The colored edge add more of a color uniform, opposed to dressing them up. Alden's are pretty dressy though. Might get a pair after I get another pair of Nicks boots.
Work/ service boots don't generally have finished edges. Dress boots usually do. Casual boots can. It's an oversimplification, but not inaccurate. It doesn't have anything to do with "quality."
fantastic idea my friend!! I've given thought to something like this but I worry it could turn into a 2-3 hour long video!! Maybe I could break it up into smaller segments :-)
Great comparison videos. I have a question on Alden Indy sizing. I wear 9 for Thursday Sneakers (Could probably wear 8.5) I wear 8.5 in Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill (Chrome XL with Danite sole - the command like sole is wider it seems and I would wear an 8.0 in that sole). Looking to buy Alden Indys and was told by other youtubers to go half size smaller than other boots. I see you wear 8.5 in Alden and Grant Stone. Would you recommend to go a half size smaller than Higgins Mill?
Hey- great videos. I just received the grant stone brass boot. Love the look. I’m unsure about the fit on my foot. I wonder if it’s the height around the front of the foot. How does the ottowa fit compare to the brass boot?
the ottawa and the brass boot will be the same in terms of length and width but the brass boot has more volume in the toe compared to the ottawa. i take the same size in both but yes at times i've considered going down a half for the brass boot
Michael Lim yessir they have aged beautifully! In fact I did a video on the natural Chromexcel ones where I conditioned them using Armstrong’s all natural products on them and they look better than when they were new
Can you comment on the fit between the Trubalance and Leo last? I had a chance to try on a Trubalance 10D Indy suede boot at a local Alden shop and it was comfortable out of the box.
I hate to always be out bashing Grant Stone, but they just dont sit well with me. We all talk about raising minimum wage and complain that we dont make anything in America anymore, but when it comes to laying down the green, so many run right to China. Let's walk the walk people.
For me , if there's 3 pairs of boots for me to choose from with a blind fold and I'm laying 3 to 400 or more down , I will pick the one that fits the best and the feel of the quality , that being said if it's from China or Australia over American I will buy it in a flash , it's my feet , lol . Say the American boot isn't as good as the next , you will stick to American anyway , that thinking is a choice buy makes no sense to me.
@@Angel-AbC9 Not quite sure what you do for a living, but I'm sure I can find someone in China to do it better and cheaper. My point being that the thing that drives that, is that they violate human rights, pollute the world, and would destroy your way of life in a heartbeat. The price you pay is more than dollars.
@@corporalpunish6089 my friend doesn't matter what I make , let's look at reality and forget the boots , 75 % of usa goods are from China, it's a good chance you have something and may not be aware of it and it's made in china..Fact America does business with China because the cost is much lower for usa consumer . So again I don't care where it's from and the people who work in sweat shop is there choice to work or not ..

True. A lot of shoes I have lace tight to avoid heel slips, even though they the right size

Would love to get a pair of black cxl Ottawa’s because of the contrast between the black cxl and the natural welt.

Great video! Glad you did it with the Tankers.
thanks so much!!! yeah I figured I should pull some different models into the mix :-D
Great video. I’m considering getting the Alden Indy 403
Can you comment on the comfort of the Indy vs Ottowa? The Indy was the most comfortable boot I ever put on, does anything Grant Stone make compare?
YES! ottawa and indy are equivalents in terms of comfort, maybe the ottawa are even more comfortable
You have lots of nice shoes, how about making video about how you match them with the outfits? That would be awsome

Don’t know from the ascetic look I like the Alden’s so far.
yeah they're not for everybody. the sleek, dressier, unstructured toe look throws some people off, I know it did for me initially
You can dress up the Grant Stone boots too just by putting flat nice laces
My Alden NST have speed hooks.
