Love this, especially all the Q action! Also at 7:37 I seriously thought it was a Coca-Cola delivery truck making a code 3 delivery...until they turned the corner lol. I'm pretty much a total fan of every department that sticks with the almighty Federal Q2B for their apparatus. So much more amazing than resorting to the cheaper, quieter, fake sounding electronic Q emulators that to me sound more like Ponch and Jon's motorcycle sirens on CHiPs from the '70s (IMO). Back in the day (50s - early 70s), when the majority of ambulances were built on Cadillac chassis/coach built long wheelbase passenger car based vehicles, they often-times ran Qs also until car-based ambulances were phased out in the mid 70s and most ambulances went full electronic sirens.
@@philiplubduck6107 What about oil accidents, rescue missions, etc.? And on board fires are really dangerous. The fire stops when the boat sinks, but there are people on the boat.
I really love the fact that they still use some old school 70s-80s Fire Truck shows that they still have utility in todays world and give a good image to the FD!
A few years back, we were visiting family in Cali. At some point, we went to visit the USS Iowa, and while I was on deck I saw an LAFD boat head out to an emergency. That was probably the coolest thing I got to see that trip (and the excitement I felt was a nice reprieve from the fact that we were there for a funeral). We have lakes and rivers in my state, and folks have watercraft, however, no government agencies have watercraft*. Some FD has swift water rescue teams, and various LE agencies have choppers that can and have been used for rescue/SAR. *Dedicated vessels, that are stationed in the water such as what one would see in coastal states. I believe that departments with swift water rescue teams have rafts that they carry on their trucks.
My old agency still has a 1955 cadillac miller meteor ambulance in its original livery and pristine condition. They let its license lapse at one point so it's just a parade/funeral piece, but apparently there are a few left in the US that have just been consistently kept up with and grandfathered in to be legal BLS ambulances. And a fire department I used to run with had as a backup (in 2018) a 1978 ford f350 ambulance with 20k original miles. It was just their backup 4x4 ambulance, but it was still in service when it snowed or when their regular rig was totaled, and it was an immaculate time capsule to the Carter administration.
it would have been nice to see like a caption or something of why thease units are rare and maybe what they are if u know :) the other thing i noticed is there sure are alot of people that dont seem to care that there is an emergency response vehicle with everything blaring they just keep crossing over
Yeah I see a lot of these types of videos but I don’t exactly understand what makes the vehicles rare. Like the Chevy Suburban at 0:56 for example. Yes technically since they’re outdated you could consider it “rare” and I’ve only ever seen one in the past like 5 years (besides the one my dads firefighter station has) but is that why they are so rare? Or is it because of the unit? (Like a hazmat control squad car or something you probably wouldn’t see very often) I’ve recently seen an old Dodge Charger cop car and a couple Crown Vic’s in like rural Oregon and they make me excited, but would those be considered “rare”?
It's really crazy when you see how many drivers don't stop directly or reduce their speed. They just drive on and the emergency services have to wait at an intersection. There is nothing like that in Germany. Here, all traffic stops immediately and space is made so that the fire, police and rescue vehicles are not held up.
we had a vol fire dept that *still* had a retrofitted M715 kaiser, it was built JUST for farm field fire calls, it was very beefy four wheel drive truck, with water tanks, the engine wasnt stock, they got rid of the stock 6 cyl engine, they put 5.9 cummins in it. and That fire truck was a regular at car shows. easily one of favorites of mine.
Detroit 8V92 Kenworth, Cabover, with a 6X6 Marmon and Herrington solid front axle conversion! Was these rarest truck/unicorn configuration I’ve ever seen. Was in service many years ago. Ran both Wildland/brush and to structure calls.
If you want rare then you should see the dangerous wild animal response vehicle in the UK, it is the only one of its kind in existence, also there are technically only four fireboats in the UK three operational one historic (but still fully working) the fireboats are all with lfb!
I am trying to find a video that I can upload of the dangerous wild animal response vehicle, I believe it is based at a zoo in the Midlands I just can't remember which one, the vehicle is a unimog and has a series of lockers, a crane and a cage on the back of a trailer, I believe it carries various capture tools and equipment and it has space for four people. The vehicle is definitely unique I will admit I can't find any pictures at the moment but there were some at one point!

Back in 2001, I lived in College Park, MD. I was on my way home on the Metro; and when we stopped at the College Park station it was evident there had been a storm as the streets were wet. THEN we saw a tractor trailer fire truck with "Collapse Unit" on the side, I had no idea that kind of unit even existed.
