When you're an aspiring sportsman... Two things you need to work on for your career. 1. Your game skill 2. Your character and attitude You need to work on number 2 with twice as much diligence than number 1. Good sportsmanship lasts longer than the numbers on a scoreboard. Good sportsmanship lasts forever!!
It also lasts longer than money, I swear I’ve seen so many people using “he/she has a lot of money at least, unlike you!” As a defense for famous people with awful attitudes. Humility will get you more friends, less foes, better family life, and overall more happiness. Way better than money IMO, but young people don’t think that way now.
Spot on. I’ve seen something similar to this in my own life. I teach 6th grade. I had a student who had really good dribbling skills and would do all those fancy dribbles against unskilled kids (public school, no cuts). He seemed like he was the next great white hype...then one day he played a team with bigger opponents. These kids were as tall or taller than me (5’9”). Not as skilled with the ball but they knew how to use their size to their advantage. He looked pretty average against bigger competitors who were average players at best. Size does matter in basketball. Ball skills will only get you so far.
What happened to Julian Newman was his dad. His dad: - guided him poorly - contributed to Julian's abysmal attitude - demonstrated poor leadership skills - aided and abetted deep seated anger issues - set unrealistic expectations for him - did not teach him how to be a humble winner - etc., etc. Jamie Newman should not be allowed to teach/coach young players. If it were possible, he should have his "dad" license revoked.
His height is definitely the most important reason he's not getting any interest. If he was 6'2 he'd be getting plenty of offers, height is a must-have at the above high school level.
It's a very, very important thing D1 coaches look for, but if he had a high basketball IQ he'd definitely still get interest. You don't need height to draw attention and set up teammates. Elite PGs learn how to break down defenses and set up their teammates, pass out of traps they draw and basically move the ball around. The attitude problems and lack of team play coupled with the low BB IQ means the lack of height does become an achilles heel but it isn't the main cause.
Height is a second factor here . Even if he was 6'6 , with the kind of basketball i.q he has and the overall playing ability required on a team, he simply won't evoke interest
@@indian-id6rx That's not entirely true, he can make a D1/D2 team with bad IQ basketball albeit having the physical attributes and some talent. There are so many college players with horrible fundamentals that never make it anywhere beyond that level and were carried to the program by their physical stats.
Ya'll dont realize that although you need more than height and athleticism to make it as pro basketball player or even a high level college player, height is the ultimate exclusionary factor that no one can get around. The sport beyond high school is simply too competitive for shorties even if they had generation type talent.
Having extremely highly skilled play at young age doesn't mean you'll be even better later on. Being on the top sometime takes small step rather than early big step

He was a playmaker and kinda short for basketball player his age. Our school never even reach semi-final. I just hope he would think about his teammate more, and less got stolen and blocked by the opponents.
Muggsy Bogues is 5'2" tall. He didn't have the height to make it to the NBA, but he had the heart, the humility, and most importantly, the attitude to get there. All the skill in the world doesn't cover up the wrong attitude.
He honed his body into a basketball war machine only to come up short (no pun). Accountability is a plane of existence that can be brutal. It should be something all of us answer to, but it's inescapable for a young man.
Only real comment on this thread, all that other shit talking about his dad and arrogance or whatever nonsense. He dribbles around and chucks up a shot because he can’t do shit else. He’s short. So many facets of the game open up to you when you’re taller. People don’t get this and make it all about skill. If height didn’t fucking matter in basketball, they wouldn’t be judged based on height.
Duc height height obviously matters in bball. However spudd webb, nate robinson, earl boykins, and muggsy bogues were under 5’8. They actually had the skills and athleticism to offset their height. Julian possesses no skills or athletic abilites.

Too bad today NBA is all about Height even with no skill.just stand there and try to rebound the ball LOL.. I miss them Muggsy, Spudd. The Kid isn't 5.5.. Hes actually 5'7..Normal height to me. If only this kid can jump higher like Spudd. He prolly can make it to NBA Bench.
lmao don’t do Julian like that
TOY TULOG wdym normal. 5’7 is a fucking dwarf. You ain’t going anywhere with that height if u want to go pro at ball
@@michaelw7327 lol Webb 5'7 and he went pro. Muggsy was 5'3 and went pro and he is more fan to watch than any current nba player. Both of them short player got skills. Muggsy was going against 7ft and they couldn't stop muggsy
When you're an aspiring sportsman... Two things you need to work on for your career.
1. Your game skill
2. Your character and attitude
You need to work on number 2 with twice as much diligence than number 1. Good sportsmanship lasts longer than the numbers on a scoreboard. Good sportsmanship lasts forever!!
100% right and also being a team player
100% right! Thank you for the lesson!!!

Then how did muggsy get into the nba and he is 5 foot 3
He’s been using the same moves for the last 7 years 😂
And the same height also for the last 7 years
@@krampus1100 loll

j Smith he is not gonna grow. He’s trash
j Smith ur so delusional. He’s like 19 he’s not gonna grow stupid Julian fan
Should’ve said, “hype grew , but not his height”
Man actually didn’t take his chill pill
Yall wouldnt say this to his face. Julian keeps a blicky he doesnt just shoot on the court. You thought wrong.
A T you thought. That prep school poser would get put on his pockets.
A T Lmao
Should’ve said, “his ego grew , but not his height
See, the difference between someone like him and Spud Webb is that Spud knew how to share the rock and wasn’t an egomaniac
Naw you tweaking spud Webb was a ridiculous athlete he had HOPS
The whole debacle was messed up but imagine being 5'7 97lbs and constantly pretending like you wanna fight 😂
Julian newman's family is the ripoff of the ball family
2:10 epileptic attack from Julian
PLS IM IN TEARS AHAHAH
Ball skills will only get you so far.
tell that to allen iverson ;)
What happened to Julian Newman was his dad. His dad:
- guided him poorly
- contributed to Julian's abysmal attitude
- demonstrated poor leadership skills
- aided and abetted deep seated anger issues
- set unrealistic expectations for him
- did not teach him how to be a humble winner
- etc., etc.
1.he has additude problems 2. Doesnt know how to make plays 3. Cocky and arrogant 4. He will never be 6'1 so it doesn't really matter
“What happened to Julian?”
This could be a 3 second video and it would be: hes a bad cocky point guard.
Hahahahah savage
And short
Yeah....i was just trippin on the part of the pic saying he's pose to be the next LBJ....maybe it's just me but i've never heard that
@@shawnrich1230 there ain’t no way he finna be the next LBJ. He finna be the next WBA
LaMelo Ball blocking him and laughing about it: PRICELESS
Having extremely highly skilled play at young age doesn't mean you'll be even better later on. Being on the top sometime takes small step rather than early big step
this is the most likes i ever got. thanks.... 👍
Hahhaah😂
Yeah thinking the same, makes me think that's not a myth. I mean i myself started lifting when I'm 16 and my height got stuck there
666animalmother loft weight doesn’t stunt your growth. It the bs parent say to their kids so the don’t get jack. Either you were born with a tall or short gene. But at the end of the day result matter. #GETSTRONGBRO #WORKHARD
@@nicholasmack1764 i know its a myth but sometimes I doubt it. For example growing up I was always the tallest in class, i grew tall fast. Then I started playing basketball everyday, started lifting then thats when I got stuck in height. I stopped growing at 16. And all my relatives are also tall so I have the genes for it
@@nicholasmack1764 p.s. Its really lame to use hashtags "bro" so that message in hashtags laughably contradicts itself. I know how to work hard, still working out, I figure if I'm not tall then I want to be big
It’s amazing how much “daddy ball” takes place, and the dad literally wants his kid dribbling or shooting for 90% of the game. You might see amazing highlight reels, and lofty point totals, but then realize they hit 17/45 shots, and didn’t get to see pathetic shot attempts that weren’t even close. Beware of turning your kid into a star, and forcing the results
That’s why I NEVER want my dad or any family member to coach me later in life
High school is usually the time to stop coaching your kid it's what I did
It's like going to a college fluid mechanics class taught by your community college degree dad. He has no business teaching at a level that's beyond his level
I mean it depends. If the Dad is a former great athlete/player and knows what he's doing, then there isn't a problem. But if the Dad is just a fan sports, probably not a good idea...
@@yangsong2334 dude, fluid mechanics is easy. Also, that has nothing to do with this lol the class can be taught by anyone. But this guy never progressed because of his ego and analogies
@@yangsong2334 fluid mechanics is cake, also community college education can be just as good as regular college education, to say otherwise is classist
Very good structured video. Brief and well organised..
He low key looks like he watches the professor for his moves lol
One on one player. His dad should make him a 1 x 1 league!
5'7. That's all you have to say. 5'7.
It lets us appreciate Spud Webb and other great smalls of the NBA even more.
There was that guy in my highschool that had a "catchy" basketball skill, but too individualiatic and did not know when to pass the ball. He was a playmaker and kinda short for basketball player his age. Our school never even reach semi-final. I just hope he would think about his teammate more, and less got stolen and blocked by the opponents.
“What happened to Julian Newman?”
“He stopped growing.”
In every sense of the phrase.
It’s like if the ball is to big for him
His dad ruined him, built his ego up so much, he could only go down. Plus, his dad seems super greedy.
It’s not what happened, it’s what didn’t happen. He didn’t grew.
Grow*
@@hardlockvevo4302 😂😂
@@LegendaryManSlayer93 he has skill. but hes a kid whos milked every single ounce of his athletic ability and wont get any better.
If this is the standard for “next Lebron” then I’ve seen a lot of “next Lebrons”

It's like Jordan saying his brother was better than he was but he's 5'9" and that's that.

Little brothers are claimed to be better than big bros but never live up. They said Eli was a better version of Peyton Manning when he was coming in. They said Colt McCoy's little brother was better than Colt.
Yet Derek Carr was supposed to be a worse version of David Carr. And Derek surpassed him big time. I guess that's the trick, whatever they say the little brother is going to be the opposite happens lol.
