When they fuck up during rehearsals, how do they get back into it? "Start at that diminished thing you were doing again!" "The one with the blastbeat under it?" "Yeah that one!". Inhuman.
this.is.amazing. dude, my mind is fucking blown by those riffs. No wonder you were baffled, who the hell plays like this?! Like, can you imagine walking into a room with someone to jam and they start playing this shit? like wtf would you do? Ask what mode they are playing in?? god DAMN it Bobby!
Great cover, still coming back to it, you really appreciate more the insane outer worldly riffs and arrangement of this song when you watch it being played at the same time as listening to it! Would love to see some more Deathspell omega covers from you as well as I see DSO and Ulcerate as pioneering and bar raisers in both their respective genres!
Yeah, it's in Drop B. Ulcerate's the kind of band that utilizes a drop tuning for it's full range advantages, so good luck with it in standard haha! Almost every riff in this song plays off a min6 chord shape, usually with added voicings above the min6 chord, which would create Holdsworth-like chord shapes in standard. If you could do it, more power to ya!
This would definitely be my favourite band if they had more riffs you can actually headbang on. Here, everything is so amazingly complex and mindboggling, it takes patient days of cautious and thorough listening until you finally grab a tiny bit of what it is. Both the guitar and bass layers, the dissonance, and St Merat's prodigious pummeling bring this little je ne sais quoi that makes Ulcerate a special entity, one that deserves its audience and all the praises left in its wake. Un énorme respect.
The first ~50 listens of this album went right over my head, but I knew there was something special, so I kept coming back. I'm glad I persisted because EiF is an unparalleled masterpiece. When I asked Michael Hoggard how he wrote such riffs, he said he's not so sure himself haha
I'm super late to the party but this is excellent, your tone is SUPERB. I'm on an ulcerate binge after hearing their new track, I URGE EVERYONE READING THIS TO CHECK IT OUT. Cheers
I've been watching several of your videos and I'm really glad of your song choices. Getting that "old school" youtube vibe with played for real guitar and synced video/audio feels great. I was missing that. Nerdy detail : a love it better when you shoot from an angle headstock to bridge, so that we can better see your right hand approach.
A camera angle like the one in your "Martyr - Nameless, Faceless, Neverborn" with fretting hand towards camera (the more interesting part being facing the picking hand knuckles instead of the elbow).
hi Oleg! i really love your work is so sick man, god damn your a very good musician and the music do you play is my favorite! please make a cover of xenoverse discharger from wormed! or Megaliths of Despair of disentomb and sorry for my bad English hahaha greetings from Mexico
You know, as a lefty guitarist, I've had to deal with that for 10 years haha. Pro tip: imagine you're looking into a mirror, and everything becomes less awkward :)
When I was taking lessons from Dominic LaPointe that's exactly how he put things at ease for me 😊 Brother, you are absolutely killing it on this tune! Shapeshifting gloriously.
@@stevesullivan8405 I've grown so accustomed to watching righties play guitar, that when I see another lefty, I have to rethink everything haha Thank you kind sir, I had a blast with this one.
Thanks man! Yeah, this song is jam packed with so many killer riffs. Once you get to the 4:27 mark, that's where your brain starts to glitch in the memory department haha
I finally got around to learning some of this and I can do the first minute and a half kinda sloppily, I'm probably going to have to watch what you do with your fingers to see if it helps me at all. Regardless watching this again is hardly a bad thing due to just how amazing of a cover this is.
+Thank Ydu GARGD I just love how completely unintuitive it looks like even with 10 years of guitar experience I tried to learn it as well but I never would have thought it would look this fluid and now it makes sense, gonna try it myself
insane job man, very good playing. saw them three times already and each time I asked myself what the fuck they are playing :D not of this planet, just awesome
great work bro. truly impressed. I saw Ulcerate in Rochester, when they toured with Tombs, they played a small venue and I was 2 feet from the band basically. couldn't take my eyes away from the guitars. What blew my mind is that their pedals were minimal. What are you playing with as far as effects, and what is your guitar tuned to? low C# drop?
thanks man! this song is in drop B, so C# standard with the 6th string a whole step down. as far as gear goes for these videos, I just use free plugins for tone. Live, my setup is pretty minimal. 6505+ head into an Avatar cab, maxon 808 od, and an ISP Decimator II for the noise gate. I've also been messing around with this really cool pedal called the Instant Lofi Junky. It's a compressor, chorus and modulation pedal all in one. Love using it for spooky clean sounds similar to the clean guitars in Meshuggah. and distorted, it can create an interesting atmosphere as well. You'll be able to hear that thing in action on the next Artificial Brain album.
yeah is incredible that michael is able to write like this and think to memorize all his parts especially on their newest records is Inhuman fuck.....and cant wait for new artificial brain!!!!!
Man, I was thinking of trying to learn this song. Watching this cover is making me rethink my decision... like, to ever start playing guitar! Probably a stupid question, but this is as difficult as it looks, right?
@@noobsauce Thanks for the advice. I'm just a "for-fun" bedroom player, so I tend to call it quits on stuff that becomes frustrating. Ulcerate and this song is just so good though...
@@jonathanhenderson9422 Well, if you stick with it, I guarantee the satisfaction of nailing even just one difficult section of this song will be super rewarding, in the short and long term. We all start as bedroom players, and if I wasn't having any fun, I would've stopped playing guitar a long time ago. Keep at it, you'll surprise yourself.
It plays great! It took some getting used to because it's a completely different guitar spec-wise compared to my Schecter, but I'm very happy with it. The best thing about ordering from Carvin is that you can tailor every specification to your needs.
If you get time, do check out tracks The maze, Fear and trepidation, In the healing garden. You might end up liking them, maybe even covering them someday ;) Cheers
Thank you very much! Check your youtube inbox. I can't even find mine anymore without navigating through my email, so if you're having difficulties, I'll share the guitar specs here as well.
hey oleg how do you make it so clean? is it more about the pickups or your tone setup, or even post-production? and cheers for your awesome playing and for letting us discover new awesome acts
It's definitely a combination of all of those variables. I posted a picture of my tone settings in Reaper, it's in the description box under the video. Also, I never use extremely high gain, those pickups are pretty damn tight, and I believe that a significant amount of your tone lies in your fingers. I played guitar for about 9 years before I started to focus on tone/gear, in order to force myself to make riffs sound good with a shitty rig. and thank you for the kind words!
Low gain and lots of mids. Check out my screenshot of my settings in Reaper in the description. The only way for me to clean up the tone using these free plugins is to throw heavy high pass and low pass filters on the EQ. I have yet to get deep into home recording, so hopefully it'll only get better from here!
***** It either snapped off prior to playing this, or I just strung a 6 string set on the guitar since I was learning a bunch of six string songs at the time. I honestly don't remember, it's been almost two years haha
3:48 - THE most apocalyptic riff of all time. FUUUUUAAAAAACKKKKKKKKKKKK
Was blasting this song in my car last night. There is no riff that is more apocalyptic.
Oleg Zalman maybe caecus first riff....i love you man when more will be more covers?
Seriously... it makes me go borderline deranged. Sooo fucking GOOD!
Oleg Zalman 2 month end, I am here with a reminder. pls one more cover

4:12 is just too goddamn good.
Wow... Seeing how complex this is makes me like this band even more. Thanks for posting this :)
never ceases to amaze... ulcerate riffs got me
Ulcerate is a superbly high level of guitar difficulty and I am a 100% sure the same goes for their drumming.
Chasm of fire and the imperious weak are absolute mind blowing complex ideas between the guitars and the drums!!
Sooo much riff winage in this one. Sick job.
