    I do expect Arizona and Colorado to join the Big 12, not sure any other PAC school does. John Wilner of The Mercury News said Fox is NOT interested in any other city in the PAC outside of LA and they own that now with USC/UCLA in the B1G. The sole reason the PAC is falling apart is because nearly all CFB TV viewers live in other time zones. There are simply not enough people watch CFB in any city or state in the PAC other than LA & even that isn't a huge CFB TV market.
    The PAC as we know it is no more, they are the only ones who don't see that. The Big 12 is expanding to improve their situation, so adding teams that networks don't want, doesn't make sense.

    If they go with Apple + and 100% streaming, based on the production values currently with Major League Soccer, the only way you'll be able to sit through Pac 12 games is with the team's Radio option!! The MLS Pregame is an absolute joke. They talk about everything but Soccer for most of it, then speed through a few games at the end....and nearly 15 minutes of commercials in a 30 minute show. The play-by-play during the games has many of these commentators comparing MLS with English Football. Others seem to be lost, like they are watching the game for the first time. This is what awaits the Pac 12 😂

    Three (3) yrs. of bad recruiting will tank a team and in the P12 case, the entire conf.. How long would it take for P12 schools to recover from 3 bad years of recruiting? If this is the case, the next media deal might be closer to G5 conf. money because of quality of play. And if the P12 schools do stay together and the recruiting does go down the tank, the other conf's. might only offer parcel shares of the money until the P12 school recovers and add value. BIG risk today to mostly or totally streamed coverage regardless of the money and length of contract. Maybe in the future, but not today.

By this length of time after UT and OU announced their leaving the B12 had added 4 schools. I don't wish the PAC 12 to end, but I would be all for Arizona & Gonzaga to join the Big 12 now. Then let's see what happens. PAC could simply replace Arizona with San Diego State & stay together. The only two schools that would be possibly be meeting with Yormark are Colorado or Arizona. Even a 3-year media deal with exclusively (or substantial majority) Apple+ (and/or Amazon) would be the death knell to those schools in terms of recruiting. Think about it: If you are a sought-after student athlete who needs exposure to enhance whatever NIL deal they can secure, why would you go to school that necessarily limits their exposure and thus the amount of money they can earn? They wouldn't.

    Video idea: How much is future playoff contention a part of what the schools are thinking? It’s obvious that fewer teams in the league and no USC/UCLA means a MUCH easier path to playoffs. How much money would a playoff/NC win mean for a PAC-12 team and the conference? Would it be enough to compensate for a bad TV deal?

    • @lollar
      @lollar Рік тому

      That matters to fans but likely not much to schools. They would still be light years in dollars behind the power two. And an expanded playoff makes it harder for the non elite recruiters to win the Natty because you need multiple wins against elite talent. The Alabama's, Georgia's and Ohio state's will win and likely meet in every title game. And the power two also get that.playoff money also

    @goldandblue - I mentioned this in a previous comment when discussing a streaming deal with Apple, Espn and Amazon but if it were just an Apple streaming deal then I could still see a scenario where... Apple could sell a seasonal package regionally to linear local tv stations, while also still being streamed nationally and internationally. This could happen just liken MLB and the NBA and then the channels could sell advertising for that programming. eg. ASU vs Cal being bought by a station in Phoenix and Bay Area the markets. They could also sell a national game of the week (maybe a Friday night) to those same channels regionally. Like you said, this could be just a 3 year deal to see how it works but would enable Apple and the PAC to get another revenue stream out of this.

    • @craigkirsch6750
      @craigkirsch6750 Рік тому +1

      The problem with that is first Apple will have to pay 300 million for the PAC rights. Then with games on local linear tv no one will watch on Apple in those markets. Very few have Apple and the games on Apple east of the Rockies will have very few viewers as not many watch the PAC to begin with in the east and central parts of the country. This simply won't work financially for Apple.

    • @myrhino70
      @myrhino70 Рік тому

      @@craigkirsch6750 I totally agree with your comments but remember this is just all hypothetical. So my first question is why is Apple buying this? They certainly don't need money. They just announced a $1B investment in producing more theatrical movies. I think Apple is creating name recognition and building a studio network brand, like Fox, Disney etc.. They grabbed MLB game of the week, MLS and now PAC football. They may not have a large viewing audience yet but it grows with each new series, movie and show they introduce. While most are playing checkers Apple is playing chess and the future. They saw an opening and are going after it. They are looking at marketing their network and these sports internationally also. PAC is actually very popular in Asia and football is spreading in to Europe now. It is all about Apple and name recognition. So now domestically, conceptually, they could sell linear single school season packages produced by them. I could certainly see an NBC Sports Bay Area buying the package for Cal and or Stanford. Apple could still use it to advertise on and promote all their other stuff still getting plenty of viewers online. Remember more and more gen z's and gen alpha watch everything on their mobile devices, pads and laptops. This league won't compete against Big10 or SEC ever but this might be another way. No one really knows if this can or will succeed. Remember also, Big10 and SEC games also air on Paramount"+ ESPN+ etc too. Do I want this no. Actually as a Stanford fan I'd like to see them go to the Big10 or go independent but we are entering a whole new global media community.

    • @craigkirsch6750
      @craigkirsch6750 Рік тому +1

      @@myrhino70 Apple doesn't have the PAC yet and they most likely won't. The PAC isn't signing a deal that is over 50% streaming. Why? Because viewership is atrocious! MLB and MLS on Apple has been a complete disaster. Stanford will not go independent, just too difficult to do.

    • @craigkirsch6750

    1. AZ and CU to B12 leads to
    2. OR and WA to B10 leads to
    3. SDSU, Tulane, and Fesno State to Pac12 or B12, which leads to

    One factor that seems to be overlooked, is that whoever the PAC12 signs with, that TV media owns the RIGHTS to PAC12 games. That Media can then sell those games to other outlets on a game-by-game basis, which will get PAC 12 games onto mainstream TV. The big rivalry matchups will make money on linerar TV for that rights owner.
