  • This is a video tutorial showing start to finish card, spin, ply, wash dry angora yarn. This process is what I use to process my 100% angora, 2 ply yarn, from start to finish. This shows a clip of each step, with an explanation.

    I am a fiction writer, and this video is amazing for research and understanding. It's important to me that I get real world things right, especially when it comes to raising and caring for animals raised for wool and the harvesting and processing the wool of those same animals. The compassionate treatment of the animals is important to me as well, and I love finding a source, like yourself, where such care is taken. Thank you!

    I just love observing your technique and I learn more and more from you. I have some beautiful fawn wool that I will be spinning and hope that I end up with yarn that is half as nice as yours! Thank you for making this video!

      You are welcome. I enjoy spinning and sharing my current process and technique. It has certainly changed with time. Have you been able to spin up the fawn wool?

      You are welcome and I am happy to share. Spinning can be such a personal journey. Each of us learns and spins on our own path. Have you been able to test out your wheel?

      @@RabbitryandYarns Girl...yes....and it's been an epic fail...lol...I'm not giving up tho...I have a lady who is going to help me learn, but we haven't been able to do much yet...I've been watching so many video clips but, it's so hard when someone isn't right there guiding you and showing you what you're doing wrong...but, I'm determined...hopefully, it'll happen soon :)

      It certainly does take time...my first attempts at spinning on a wheel felt so awkward! Eventually, there is nothing awkward except not spinning! :) How is it going now?

      @@RabbitryandYarns Getting better with the spinning. Starting to get the "feel" of it...still have it break on me from spinning too thin and maybe too fast. It's just gonna take lots of practice. I do have a question. as for washing the yarn afterwards, is there a chance that it will just felt? I had some sheep fleece that I washed before spinning. I didn't wash the Angora. On my first practice skein of yarn, I have a mixture of Angora and Sheep wool. After plying it, so I still need to wash it? And if so, can I do it just like you did in this video? I'm nervous because I don't know if it will felt and I don't want to ruin my very first batch of yarn...even though it's completely uneven and a mess...it's still my first and I love it... :)

    Thanks for the video. I’m just learning about spinning and yarn making and already raise meat rabbits but would like to switch over to wool breeds. Lots of great info here. Just one observation. Spinning white fiber on a white background means we can’t see what’s happening

      :) Thanks for taking the time to comment and the feedback. Do you have a spindle or spinning wheel you will use to make the yarn?

    Do you mix all wool from the body of the rabbit? or do you separate prime (wool from the back and skirt) wool from the from the belly?

      Spinning it in the opposite direction of the single.

    Is Angora good for blending or should it stand alone ?

    • @RabbitryandYarns
      @RabbitryandYarns  3 роки тому +3

      You can do either. I have been blending 25% angora with 75% Gotland wool or just 100% angora yarns the past 2 months.
