I totally agree about capris! I have gotten used to straight leg jeans and wide-leg pants, but I would love to see a video on styling the wider leg pants/jeans with shoes other than heels. I work from home and have a casual lifestyle. I'm also 58. Heels just are not a shoe I wear often. I so appreciate your videos and truly believe that I am dressing better because of them.
Yes, agree with both comments about how it would be great to see a video from you on how to style pants to look decent without heels - even though we know heels and long pants are ideally the best for us. (Just not the most comfortable!)
Oh my, you are the only youtuber I have watched that actually pointed out what's wrong with my pants! I've always wanted to wear pants but couldn't coz I knew something was off lol & I just couldn't see it. Your tip is gold! Thank you so much 😭
I love how detailed you are in your explanations! You give us what to avoid but then you also explain why they don’t always work for shorties, which is super helpful. Often I can see that certain styles just aren’t for me, but I can’t exactly figure out why. Thanks, I’ll be tuning in more often!!
I loved the gray depressing moment when you said you never wore those peach colored pants in two years. We’ve all had those moments- thanks for keeping it real.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am petite (5’1”) and have an hourglass figure. Buying pants has always been a huge challenge for me. I have learned so much from watching your channel. I am using your suggestions and they really help me. I have become a real scientist when shopping for pants. I know better what to look for re: rise, pant length and waste definition. Not an expert yet, but light years ahead of where I used to be. I actually look so much better in my clothes now and just as important, I feel better. Keep posting so I can keep learning.
I am retired now, but was reminded that Ann Taylor has petite curvy pants. I used to buy them for work and they were great. I didn’t need to have them altered at all. Not sure if they do chinos or denim, but will look again. I believe Talbots also does petite and curvy style. That is my first style to search for. I try to wait for sales as often as possible. I have some things from White House Black Market also. Good luck!
My mother was 5' with a figure like you. She looked wonderful in everything as she was slim with a beautiful figure. I learned my style from her, although I wish I had her curves.
It may not always be what we want to hear, but you give us the truth! Lol. I thank you! Feeling for confident than ever even though I’m heavier! You’re the best, Chi! ❤
Clever content! Its so challenging to find properly scaled pants/jeans for petites. I dont like pleats to add bulk in midsection. I agree about tapers. I have been searching for true slim straight pants but i find most have a slight narrow ankle which i do not like. Most of the time i have to hem flares or bootcuts which become straights😂
The tip about the pants not causing a break between feet and the legs is extremely useful. Now I know why I never liked ankle-length pants on me. On you, they looked great!
Another good video, Chi! I have never looked good in capris or pleated pants with a high waist. I love your humor, and how you get your visual images across to us!
Great video, as usual. The first pair of (black) slacks had a 13” rise, the pair you used as a comparison had a 10.5” rise, you said the difference was 1.5”, but it is actually 2.5”, regardless you definitely made your point 🌟
I'm 5'4" and I have very short legs. I have very large calves and thick legs in general. Huge calves have short achilles tendons. Nothing I can do about it. No matter what I weigh, from youth to maturity, those calves are still huge (17 1/4"). My daughter is 5' 3". We went to buy bikes and tried them out for sizing. Her feet generously hit the floor, and my toes barely touched. I tend to look shorter than I am and wider. Your insite has helped me to make my legs look longer Thank you so much.
You have so many beautiful outfits on your website/shop! Thank you for sharing your elegance and knowledge of petite fashion with us. You're amazing and I wish you all the best 🍀
Love your channel. As a woman 4'11", I've noticed the trend for jeans is above the ankle. Could you do a video on how to make this new trend work on us petite women? TIA
Oh no, I love bright colored pants!! I have a peachy-orange pair and 3 red pairs in different cuts - including tapered…. I will take a long, hard look in the mirror!
Your advice is spot on. I have started wearing a wider, longer trouser for first time, I look so much better! ..love the fun factor you use with these videos..thank you Chi❤
I really enjoyed this video. As a 5 foot petite, I don't usually follow any rules for dressing for petites. But I do love how you put these videos together with your humor as well. It's great! Over the past year, I keep going through my closet and slowly weeding out what is not working for me anymore. I'm slowly realizing how much I dislike shorter length pants, especially. I cut off so many pants in 2015 when the trends was cropped and now I don't like any of those pants. So, I think it's important for petites to really not follow trends unless they know it will be something they will still wear ten years later and love on their body. Just my experience. Lately I think that straight or wide legs that cover my foot are the most flattering of all. I have some tapered pants and do wear them and I have some interesting leg silhouette pants, but overall I prefer my straight and wide legs. My feet also look big for my body and watching the beginning of this made me realize how ridiculous my feet often look when I do wear pants that show any part of my ankles of above. So this is eye awakening on many levels for me. Thank you!
Although I'm short (also 74 years old - how did that happen?), I enjoy your videos because they're funny and clever. Also, I find - trial and error - I've been applying many of your lessons most of my life.
This video is BRILLIANT! You've put into words exactly why I felt so weird wearing pairs of jeans/pants that were supposedly the perfect size with me, but which made me feel super fat and short. I understand now what was the big problem. And the "high waist" pleats pants that made me look like my ass was huge...the hips line was the problem. Thank you! The right pants (the navy ones at the 4:30 mark) make you look so much taller, like several inches taller. Fantastic advice.
Just a tip for capri pants: my legs are short and... sturdy (as you politely put it) so I choose capri flare pants and wear them with tight and pointy dark booties or pointy boots made of elastic fabric that get hidden under the flare. I think it makes me look taller and slimmer 😊
Oh and I agree about the barrel legged thing. I just bought trackie bottoms which are cuffed at the bottom and look bulky around the middle. Make me look chubby😂
I agree with Chi, My mother-in-law gave me a few pieces amazing quality silk garments, but their length and shape make me look at least 10 years older, luckily I have pretty good sewing skills, just a little of alterations make them look completely different on me.
So helpful as usual! I did learn a tip from an Italian influencer about capris that I think are the one exception where they do work; when they are slim fitted all the way from waist to hem, including slim through the thighs, and the bottom hem ends right below your knee cap, no lower. But almost all capris in stores are NOT like that and I agree with your comment. When they go wrong, they go very very wrong. NYDJ does do a petite size very slim fitted black denim capri that ends just below the knee cap that I think is actually very flattering, but that is the only example I've ever seen that I thought looked good.
I agree with you completely. I like to wear the length that falls just below the knee cap, dark in color, slim fitting and not baggy. I am 5' 1". I guess those are still called capris but it is the length I wear in the summer. So.....agree with you for sure on that. They are not so easy to find though. P.S. Is NYDJ an online store or an actual physical store? I am not familiar with them. What does the DJ stand for?
@@suzannelawson9215 it's "Not Your Daughters Jeans" and it is carried by Macys and Nordstrom but I think they also have a direct on-line store which may have more petite selections.
Thank you for these tips! Looking back, so often I have found all these tips to be true as I have tried on pants, but just couldn't put my finger on why they didn't look good! This video is super helpful-Thanks!!

You are so correct about capris pants! I have one pair that I bring out ONLY if I will be some place where having people think I'm a senior will be helpful; i.e.: the DMV. Otherwise, I substitute gauchos or above-the-ankle cigarette pants -- both of these must be done very carefully (also I'm 5'6" with long legs). I love your show!

I walk a few miles every day, in uncomfortable heat from July-Sept and I wear comfortable shoes for walking. I also wear skorts. Are they the only style of shorts that work with short legs?
Pleated pants and capris look terrible on me. I’m 66 and 5’1. I have big thighs and muscular calves and a bubble but so skinny jeans makes me look short and fat.
I nearly cried when I donated my pixie pants earlier this year. Need to check the hem length on my office pants. Still teaching from home, 3 years later.
I have a pair of stretch denim capris and I love them so much... so comfortable. I just can't give up on them 🥲🙂🙂 I guess I can make my legs look longer if I wear a bit of heels (which I hardly do and hate them). I do have long slim legs shorter torso for a 5'4".
I love this channel, I have the same type of body but with large breast, and I really struggle when I have to go shopping, usually I buy something its not for my body type 😢
I have a couple of corset waisted pants, and I think the way to solve the high waist making your legs look short are wearing similar color top and wearing heels. This video helped me understand. I wore one to a picnic with sneakers and loose and white top and was wondering why my bottom half looked weird. I also realized the back pockets are set too low on that pant. And it's a straight, cropped leg. Funny how I thought they would be the best looking pants on me.
I am slim and petite. I am high waisted, but do not have short legs. Pants with a long rise are a disaster on me. The top of the legs start a quarter to half way to my knees. Closest I have come to wearing them was to roll up jeans while gardening or washing snake bins and litter boxes on my deck with the hose. Im sorry. The midrise is probably comfortable, but they make your legs look much shorter. And the problem with your peach pants( besides the fact the you tried to wear them with black shirt, is that they are just too short for you. I suppose the length of the torso matters.
Your legs looked a 100times longer in the high rise pants than the mid rise pants. I get that low rise is kind of the style, but for classic trousers, Im not seeing it. I have a really toned midsection, and small waist, but I love the way pleated pants look as long as they are not jeans, because it gives that classy, Katherine Hepburn look. Im just not into that 2000 era stuff.
Your channel is not only helpful but you're so funny. Just makes my day.

I have a really toned midsection, and small waist, but I love the way pleated pants look as long as they are not jeans, because it gives that classy, Katherine Hepburn look. Im just not into that 2000 era stuff.
