  • Dr. Lera talks about dry eyes with a very sweet doggo named Miles.
Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is a condition that is also commonly referred to as dry eye. The medical term means inflammation of the cornea and surrounding tissues from drying. It is a common eye condition resulting from inadequate production of the aqueous portion of the tear film by the lacrimal gland and/or gland of the third eyelid.

Hi. Great info. You started mentioning something about a gland from the side of the throat before Miles made his exit. Just curious if you were going to suggest rerouting that gland to lubricate the eyes was a possibility. If that’s feasible… brilliant. I want to know more!

The rerouting of the lubrication is a salvage procedure. Normally something that is only done in worst case scenario because it's not the same lubrication that comes from the gland that's actually made for the cornea. Usually going to be done by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist

I just started my great Dane on the Tacrolimus drops and her eyes are red and irritated around them. Do I continue to use it Even though there is some irritation from it? I would say I’ve been giving it to her for about two weeks one drop twice a day.

Would a test for cat's be the same procedure? And would numbers be different?
