Nikko was at a tourney here a few years back and was suppose to do a clinic with Patrick Brown. They both backed out and wouldn’t interact with anyone. Philo and Eric Oakley stepped in and did the clinic and those two couldn’t have been more nice and chill

I think Nikko is so energetic here because it was a huge foot fault that everybody should have seen. It's everybody's job to act as a referee in the same flight. It actually bothers me that the personal relations in the card prevent proper play after the rules. I notice that too in my tournaments and I think the pros should be an example of how you do it right.
In disc golf there are so many introverts. I can't believe that neither Fish nor Barela saw Kevin step on the disc. They are just too shy. "I didn't see it" is just a lame excuse to say "I'm just too afraid of the discussion I might get into". Maybe players start to look away on purpos so they don't have to lie...
@@jaym6945 or they literally are focused on their next shot, not really what other people are doing. You see it all the time with players being so focused they zone out everything. Like when eagle didn’t even know he had that tournament winning putt. Didn’t matter to him he was just focused

@@ejzl4160 Not an excuse when enforcing rules is up to players seeing faults. That makes it part of the game and every player's responsibility. People not paying attention aren't taking the sport seriously.
@@ExsoLam I disagree if my job as a player is to beat another player that takes precedent over reffing that player. Unless there's an impartial 3rd party watching my job is to just play. If part of it is calling foot faults that's fine but that doesn't it's my duty to be focused on something that's subjective.

I play in shit beer leagues and people take it so effing seriously. Competition brings out the worst. We had a full on fist fight two years ago.

i think it's mostly then watching the release and shot rather than looking at feet. i mean i know when i play with people as soon as they release i'm watching the discs flight
@@wildcat31772 I guess, but personally I can generally still notice it when it happens even when I’m watching the flight, I just don’t play tournaments so I really don’t care. But that’s kind of my point, the guys would rather just play than focus on being nit-picky about rules to get bit of an advantage.
I think part of the problem is if you’re 100 yards out from the hole then it doesn’t matter at all if you’re off your mark by a small amount unless you’re getting around a tree or something. It doesn’t give an advantage and wasn’t intentional so it really doesn’t affect the game.
@@shanedancer3895 for sure, it's really more about approaches or when somebody is kinda pinched off, but technically, if they wanted to be obnoxious about it, they could use it to help cost their competition strokes. I just think its cool that most guys don't do that. (unless it's too blatant to ignore. lol)
@@shanedancer3895 I disagree, on any sort of uneven ground it's an advantage to place your foot where it's most comfortable to throw from rather than actually having to hit your lie. In essence thats what the Stokely clip was about and I'm sure it was 100% unintentional but it's quite easy when your runup is sloping uphill and to the side both at once. The only way to be 100% sure not to do it is to slow down and take some power off but of course that forces an entirely different throw.
I normally wouldn't care too much because generally they are an accident. But Ricky's fault was obviously in favor for the shot he threw. If he threw in regulation to his lie that forehand would've been much more cut off
It was the biggest foot fault I have seen, but Nikko is being incredibly immature by not letting it go when no one else can corroborate.

@@jodymitchell1678 You'd like it when you play in a professional tournament and people are paying attention and rules are being called, so really I don't blame Nikko at all. I don't think he's a sourpuss but I do think he is passionate and easily frustrated. Try putting yourself in that situation.

Ricky shoulda have called it on himself at that point. It was so blatantly obvious, he had to have known he foot faulted. Just like regular golf. You should call your own faults for the integrity of the game. BUT, nonetheless, Nikko should have dropped it after the others said they didn't see it. And I just don't like him regardless if he's right or wrong.
As a really new viewer to the sport, it's crazy that these calls are left up to the players. I imagine there's so many scenarios where players can't even see other players throw if they are on opposite sides of a hole. Seems like too many scenarios where you can't get a second, then come across looking like a dick if the player being called disagrees.
As a player, I hate being responsible for policing foot faults ... I only play at rec level so I'm just not calling it unless it's ridiculously bad just because I don't want the distraction of having to argue with someone about it. Too easy to get thrown off your game.
Jaimie, I play MA1 but I still agree. Especially at the top levels, players aren't paying attention to other people when they throw, they are in the zone. It sucks that players are responsible for policing this kind of stuff. I don't know exactly how the rules could change but a change would help these situations a lot.
If you add foot fault refs it would just get out of hand. video replay would be too much as well.
@@TheScarletTomato1 I think step putts are the worst, with some players it's almost impossible to detect a legal vs illegal step putt in real time. I'd be fine with things as they are if no step putts ... I think it's the most abused rule in the game.
The calls on stokely and climo were ridiculous
the stokely one is absolutely ridiculous. Especially when its not helping stokely in any sort of way. he even said "2 ft behind". absurd.

It can give you a better angle, for example in Ricky wysockis foot fault it gave him a better chance at getting around those trees
When Nikko called Ricky on the foot fault, he was protecting the rest of the field. By going further back, Ricky had a better angle for that forehand...intentionally or not.
EXACTLY. your job as a player is to keep it fair for the field. Do your job and watch the shots. We ran into this at a tournament. My son plays in MA1 as a 14 year old. He called foot faults numerous times throughout a tournament on the same person. All clearly faults, none were seconded. The other 3 didn't watch but were all part of the local club together. It was a difference in placement for my son by the time they finished the tournament. Glad he called them and in the scheme of things it's fine it cost him a finish. He isn't playing open yet. This way he knows the value of continuing to do his job and the price it holds to others if he doesn't.
This is something that should be enforced by officials and not dependent on the players to watch. The original rules are based on people playing without officials and they need to be amended for tournament play.
This stuff makes disc golf look so amateur.

how many refs you want? you'd need refs for every single group playing to make it fair. Then you can expect foot fault calls as frequently as penalties in NFL. where are you getting said refs from? this isn't boxing with sanctioned referees. Look at all the controversial decisions in mma and calls in nfl. refs don't remove drama they become the drama. I don't think ppl really think things through.

There are umpires in all table tennis, tennis, badminton and squash matches. The organizing club provides the umpires usually and ITTF events have pro umpires. Disc golf needs umpires at least to the pro tour events. Of course we can't compare sports like TT with 50 million players and DG, but it wouldn't be so difficult to assign umpires to the main events from the organizing club. Every event in TT has also a referee that the player can ask for a second opinion if they feel the umpire is not fair.

if its my card, and the dude is in an open field and not avoiding bad footing or a tree blocked line or something, i'd probably let it ride too. But it is a rule and something you need to consider on those wide open run ups, so maybe it is important call in a field too
Rules are rules. When you're a pro you're also expected to adhere to the rules more strictly than amateurs. That's what's it's like a that level.
Everyone saying Nikko was right... the only thing he was right about was calling it. No one else was even saying he was wrong. He was arguing against no one. He’s just pissed no one else saw it. Most human beings would realize that and immediately move on.
Especially since NONE OF THESE FOOT FAULTS GAVE ANYONE AN ADVANTAGE.

He was right but he's still a cancer to the sport, with the attitude issues and taking forever to putt and just being toxic on almost every card he's played with. There's a way to bring it up without nagging and making your card mates feel awkward.

@@Kirkorr123 He has 30 seconds to putt, seen him take close to all of 30 seconds to putt, but that's a long time and most take 5 seconds max. So 25 seconds longer is a massive time difference. Not disagreeing that Nikko is annoying to watch, but saying you're laughing at the rules when a 30 second putt is still legal is eh

Nicko wants everyone to play by the rules. Its time for everyone to put a stopwatch in there bags and call time on him everytime he takes 90 seconds to throw. Fair is fair.
Or just start penalties for the people on his cards not doing their jobs by enforcing the rules. There is more than one person breaking a rule when that happens and it isn't called.

It just doesn't seem to be able to work that way. An official on every card, getting to every location of every throw? Not really able to happen. It's just another part of the game. Being calm in the middle of it is the key- even if one calls but no one seconds.

@Carlos. I've been saying this the whole time too. They can get cameras to record every card, but can't even have 1 official ref for each card. Pathetic.
How about starting out for a new rule (if it happens), just have 1 official ref for the lead card only so that the players can focus on their game without having to observe and judge other players, so that way it won't disrupt their momentum.
I don't understand why that can't happen. It's just 1 ref on 1 (lead) card in the tournament. Ridiculous...
@@ralki15 I'm sorry, but I haven't yet seen a single video of the fourth card down on any PDGA approved tournament. The logistics of what you are asking for is very difficult and would consume a lot of resources- resources that are already very limited.
As far as asking for a TD for the lead card, that is a tricky situation. The TD may not be able to run all over and get to all of the throws. Some throws go left, some right. What if they miss something that is crucial to the end of the game, but the players didn't pay attention because they relied on the TD who was supposed to be everywhere and see everything? It's just not practical.
And what about all of the other competitors who have invested just as much into the tournaments? Are they worthy of being treated as less-than by not having a TD, or should they too have a TD?
ADDITIONALLY, one cannot play these events without having taken the Official's Exam. Each player is required to know and enforce the rules of play according to PDGA rules.
No, we must hold each other accountable to the rules of the game. It's the only equitable way to ensure to the best of the sports ability that all participants are competing fairly.

Maybe if Nico didn’t take an hour to putt inside the circle it may be the rest of the pros won’t be so annoyed when he calls a foot fault no one calls delay of game on him ever. I've only ever heard of one person call him on a courtesy violation during a tournament, and he didn't handle it well. I believe it was Nate Perkins telling him to chill out because it was throwing him off his game.
I can't stand how he tries to convince all the surrounding witnesses like he's prosecuting Ricky. You call foot fault and if no one else sees or calls it then you move on. What a punk ass move.

Weird PDGA rule. 812.B.2 says it's part of the courtesy rule to watch other player's throws in order to make sure they are legal. So technically in a weird way, Patrick Brown could have given a courtesy warning to his card for not being able to provide an answer.

And what happens if all four players are spread out all over the fairway? They now all have to walk to the location of every single throw? That is a lot of extra walking. Watching is a courtesy, and the spirit of the rule is to watch for faults if you are in position to do so, not penalize you for not walking to the spot of every single throw. That would probably increase the distance you have to walk by a VERY large amount, thereby affecting everyone's games. I now have to follow everyone into their nasty thorn-bushes, or down into their ravines, or I am discourteous? That is my advantage for throwing a good shot, I get to walk in straight lines, and not have to follow all three of my competitors on their zig-zag patterns. If I am concerned about someone foot-faulting, I have the choice to do that, but forcing me to is ridiculous. BAD IDEA.

What i learned from this video is that the sport is popular enough for camera men but not for referee's.
What i almost didn't learn from this video. What a foot fault is.
People need to chill about being mad a foot fault was called on them (at the pro level) just like how if they foot fault, they probably aren't doing it intentionally, someone calling a foot fault is probably not doing it maliciously. No need for "are you serious!" Or "you gotta be kidding me!" I mean someone has to second it, so unless 2 people team up to screw you over, just go, "did i?, did anyone else see it?" I get how in the lower levels, it can be frustrating, but at the pro level, they should be more professional.
Nikko was wrong on GG but 100% right calling that on Ricky. And it actually did seem to give Rick an advantage to be that far back.

Gg call was right. You got see the disc line from the basket. GG was stepping on the right of that line.

It's crazy that a professional player in any sport, with their actual paycheck on that line, has to not only be concentrating on their own game and planning their next shot/ hole, but also be policing/judging fellow players. So bizarre, and a giant conflict of interest. I would never call or second anything because the tension it creates can screw up your whole match. Just be easier to concentrate on you own game and let the feet fall where they may.
Poker is similar in that other players can call you out for delays, improper bets, acting out of turn etc.. Also, a little less mainstream but this is how it is at competitive Magic the Gathering tournaments. You self-police and call judges on your opponent. You need to watch like a hawk because there is ample opportunity to cheat (many many cases have been caught on camera).

I realize it is a rule. I just think it's dumb on a pro level. Obviously, can't be compared to poker where everybody is sitting right there at the same table. Or Magic, lol. As we can see, lot's of stuff slips by because disc gold courses are huge. I have seen many foot faults not called, for example. And, we have seen video proof of foot faults called that shouldn't have been called. That is why I think it is dumb.
I think Ricky wins this round of foot faults, I would jokingly call out my friend in a casual round if they were that far away. Lol

One of my best friend's, (who got me into disc golfing in middle school) has no run up when throwing. He just takes a big step and throws. He's a big dude which is probably why. He'll stand at the edge of the pad, take his step off and throw. Same when in the fairway or putting, he'll step over the spot of his disc and throw. It's all for fun so nobody has cared lol
I'd be more for making a foot fault call on someone for throwing past their marker. The object of the game is to get to the basket, if someone I'm playing with throws from slightly further back behind their mark, moreso if it is in a wide open fairway with no obstructions, well thats just on them for making their distance to the basket a little bit longer.

We need 3 referees for every group playing mpo and fpo. They must stare at feet whole time and expect a foot fault call per hole. We also need cameras following every group and live replay. It may cost a butt-hole but we can just tax conservatives more and get it from govt.

I remember all of these but especially that call on Ricky from Nikko. Ricky had to know he was 13.2 miles away from his mini 🤣🤣🤣 Exaggerating obviously but it was soooo far.
Or maybe the professional thing to do is for all players to pay attention at all times especially because it’s the players’ responsibility to enforce the rules. Many players are afraid to call violations for fear of not being backed by the card or having to play the rest of the round with salty players messing with the vibe.
The fact that Nikko still gets hate for this interaction is crazy to me. Its such a blatant foot fault, its not a borderline call, and the fact that he was somehow the only person watching on the card isnt how its supposed to work. He shouldn't get hate for this. If you call a footfault in a casual round, you shouldnt throw a fit if you dont get a second, but in a professional round with money on the line, everybody should be paying more attention until the PDGA changes their stupid rule that all violations have to be called by the players.
If anyone says they weren’t watching you can give them an 803.B.2 courtesy violation warning on the spot. It’s not a good excuse. Then if they have ANY courtesy violation after that it’s a stroke.

This is great. In regards to folks upset about Nikko getting all up in arms about a foot fault yet regularly getting away with time violations himself, I think the process for calling any violation would be much smoother if the PDGA officially makes it so players on a card can anonymously call foot faults, time violations, courtesy, etc via U-Disc. Nobody (aside from Nikko apparently) wants to be the stickler who calls someone out and makes the rest of the round tense, so they just don't do it. I feel like an anonymous voting system on U-Disc would encourage more calls to be made. Could easily add a stopwatch function as well to make timing throws seamless. The PDGA needs to either implement something of the sort, use actual officials, or just ditch the rule altogether because it's not working as-is on the pro level.

nikkos time violations are ridiculous to watch. but i would say that footfaults have alot more effect on the end results of the game. none of these guys can consistently make same level of step up fairway drives that they can do from the box unless they are breaking the rule, ricky prob wouldnt have been able to throw the disc as far and as accurate if he had to think where he steps.

Back in the olden days "You may follow through past your lie on any shot outside the 10m circle as long as the disc has left your hand before any body part touches ahead of the lie and your supporting point remains in contact with your lie until releasing the disc."...aka almost impossible...

I feel like GG was outside the box and it was his advantage to do so because of the shape of the shot he was trying. I feel like it was a legit foot fault and GG was just angry because he missed the next shot.
I'm a bit surprised ricky didn't second for his own fault. the commentators are saying he didn't fault intentionally, but he was so far behind the mini when he threw that he had to of known he foot faulted. obviously nikko should have dropped it when the other players didn't second, but still he was right.
I think it would help the sport if players started getting more strict with their card mates on foot faulting. because right now you have a situation where the guy who foot faulted knows they foot faulted but are like c'mon let it slide, which is just really weird to have in a pro sport.
I don't think we need more foot faults. It so rarely affects a shot (agree Ricky's was an exception). Just don't want the sport turning into basketball when you could call a foul on every single play at after a while it just becomes arbitrary for how the official felt that day.

Nobody at my leagues has any problem calling out a foot fault and I'm glad whenever they do because I don't want to be foot faulting so if I do it, call me out so I can avoid doing it again by paying more attention.

I've immediately second' a foot fault that was called on me before because I'm legally blind and have no peripheral vision. I tell my cards during tournaments to not hesitate on calling me out on it. I feel it helps me focus more on my game and my surroundings. I become a better player this way.

Yea Kevin handled it very poorly imo. Even though 99% of foot faults are unintentional and don't provide the thrower with any advantage whatsoever, handle it like a pro and don't get huffy puffy
Stepping on a disc is not an advantage there or really ever, so I don’t see why anyone would create conflict other than to mess with the other player or force them to make a good shot again for no real reason.
Poor sportsmanship to call out one of your card mates for barely catching the edge of the disc. Great way to make for a super uncomfortable rest of your round.

I think Paul McBeth said at one time, the reason he doesn't call Nikko on how long he takes to putt is because he notices the longer Nikko takes, the more likely he is to miss the putt
Everyone on this comment section that is loving ripping on Nikko is probably new to the game and has no idea what the 30 second rule actually is in place for. It is not a strict rule. It is not a shot clock. This is not basketball. It comes from ball golf, where there is a similar relatively informal "pace of play" rule intended to encourage normal paced play so as not to hold up cards behind that group. They rarely, if ever, use the rule to penalize a player with strokes. It just does not happen. Most people see Nikko on coverage which is mostly on lead card, meaning there is no group behind them to even hold up. Every single pro player I have personally followed, ESPECIALLY the guys on lead card on the final day trying to win a pro tour event, takes more than 30 seconds to putt or throw at least 4 or 5 times a round. Let me say this again for every single moron who loves to just rip on Nikko: Every single player does it. EVERY. SINGLE. PLAYER. The fact that most people are overlooking is that if no one else on the card has a problem with it, then its not a rules violation and not worthy of a penalty. Every pro I've talked to loves playing with Nikko because of his passion for the game. I've seen Nikko encourage his cardmates with positivity more than almost any other player. They may not totally enjoy his attitude toward himself when he messes up, but they're human and so is Nikko.

You will only see 30 seconds called if it’s holding up a group behind them, which hardly ever happens. A foot fault is a more egregious violation, it’s improving your lie. Just like ball golf, a pace of play violation rarely results in a penalty, but improving your lie always does.

I can understand this rule, when you are in the bushes or behind a big tree or something - of course you need to throw from where your disc has landed, and are not allowed to move to the side or move further behind to get a clearer view. That's completely logical...
But standing in an open field with no obstacles, who gives a flying rats ass about 15-20 centimeters to the side or behind...? I can't in any way see, how that little amount of distance can give you an edge in the game.

The factor that gives you an edge (maybe) is that you have to pay attention where your plant foot is when throwing. Some people dont have that automated. So they either dont pay attention and stand wherever they want while throwing, or they pay attention and that takes from their drives. It's simple. Its a rule that you have to follow. If you dont train it and just stand wherever while throwing, that's a factor off your mind and makes it easier for you.

You have to commit to a limit of some kind or people will inevitably abuse ambiguity around a rule. It’s all geometry, and I think Ricky’s drop back got him an easier forehand angle around the obstacle of tree and nearby OB path, which he shouldn’t need or be able to fudge at this level of competition. Calling foot faults, even in an “open” fairway, is a necessary evil.

I love Ricky and he has been my favorite since I saw him as a Jr. But man... that was so obvious and he played it off. Be a man and own it, there is no reason to make Nikko be the bad guy just so you can get an advantage. I am not sure if anyone remembers but there is a video somewhere of Barry Shultz calling a foot fault on Nikko which cause an argument. Nikko had to re-put and smashes the putt again. It's probably 10 plus years old but definitely one of my favorites. I wouldn't begin to know where to look for it. I'm pretty sure Billy Krump was commentating.

Don’t hate Nikko for calling the rules, the problem is that players have to call it on each other and Nikko is one of the few people who isn’t afraid to call a rule on his friends
One reason why people don't like Nikko calling these is because he violates rule 802.03 (excessive time) all the time. No one is calling that. He would probably freak out if there was an official following his group and giving penalty shot throw after throw.
Thinking there is that don't call out if you don't follow rules yourself.

I get Nikko's point on the last one but someone has to second it. He also should drop the issue though. Yeah it definitely helped him but pros need to pay way more attention since it is their job to be as "professional" as possible especially at these big tournaments. Think of other sports where they let things slide way more but on the professional levels the rules need to be followed. This is about mental strength. If you don't have to worry about getting within a certain distance of your mark then that relieves a part of the mental game others are HAVING to follow. This is an advantage and especially over the course of a 3 round tournament.
honestly for nationals it seems like there should be a neutral referee in each group or the rule shouldn't be enforced at all, if the current rules are so unenforceable that they may as well not exist.
