As far as know, Hades is also a wealth god as he also domains the wealth in deep earth like gems and precious metals

That is correct! AND Hades' name in Rome is Pluton, very similar to Plutus :) Some Romans didn't think that Plutus was a separate deity, but instead believed that he was actually Hades in a different physical form! I really wanted to work that into the script actually but I was struggling with how to do it without disrupting the flow. I'm going to pin this comment so more people see it.

@@JonSolo thanks for the good content, I just learned that there is an actually deity of poverty.. because as far as I have observed, most deities with negative domains either go with death and disease, but poverty itself wasn't documented, maybe because as you have said on the video, they do not want to invite that deity in their life, therefore do not talk or write about the said deity... Which goes to show that ancient Greeks are very suspicious people 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'd like to interpret this story by saying Poverty is what we call both a curse & blessing. Important to remember the word broke means "to be temporarily broken" as poor means "to be permanently broken. Being broke is investing while being poor is spending. Wealth and Poverty wouldn't merely exist without the apple that symbolizes the abundance of forbidden knowledge of the good & ugly it took God to create the universe is 6 days or 6 civilization periods like ten bronze age, the age of Joshua. Anywho poverty is the twin flame to destruction as wealth tends to cloud the minds of self intending people only for them to understand why, for instance you being rich right now could intend only conflicts of interest you'll encounter because you didn't have the good & ugly knowledge of being wealthy vs being abundant. You only become abundant if & only when you want for nothing. The only way you achieve that is when you learn there one in the same.... Poverty is a blessing and curse for the broke man while wealth is a blessing and curse for the rich man and. Vise versa

I think the baby, young-man,old-man, reprensentaion of Plutus is interesting. It's like when humanity was new, we only took what we needed so Plutus stayed young, healthy and innocent. As humans invented farming and mining he grew up so he could supply. But as humanity ravaged lands and started wars so they could gain wealth his body became old and beaten. This could also explain why Plutus wishes to reward the honorable and hardworking people, its connected directly to his health.

An aged and rather strait-laced aunt of mine who'd spent her life studying the classics once opined that if you took all the bodily function jokes out of Greek and Roman dramas, you'd end up with a group of people standing round on stage, not saying anything and just scratching their arses.
I think you've just confirmed that.

Hmm, even with Plutus in my corner, I still wouldn't stop sacrificing to the other gods. All the money in the world means nothing if Demeter and Persephone don't bring the harvest and springtime, if Poseidon floods the world or denies men fish, if you live in a world where Aphrodite refuses to make people fall in love and sex is just a transaction. Revolt is an ugly thing, and all the gods are necessary to make the world stay in balance. Balance is the key.

@@Not-Ap zeus was a coward and ruled with fear and paranoia. He even pulled the same shit as chronos. His attempts to keep balance are swayed at keeping himself and his ilk in power. He isnt interested in natural balance. He is no different than a modern day oil Barren's son that grew up wealthy and has no sense of reality. Zeus blinded another god out of fear of losing his seat. He didn't invite him to Olympus to be equals, he maimed him and then said "that's what you get".

Aristophanes play was a fun what if but ultimately there's nothing we could do to hurt them and they can absolutely hurt us. Zeus was storm God who people prayed to for rain at least initially. Are you gonna get mad at a storm and curse at it as it approaches? What would that do other then make you look foolish? That's what the God's of the ancient world were. Not real beings but human conceptions of natural phenomenon. To fight or shame the "gods" is pointless because your criticizing mother nature itself who ultimately doesn't care one way or another. However if you can sacrifice to the storm or volcano then theoretically it should pacify them (at least in our own heads).

HEAR ME OUT: I'm kind of on the poverty side here, but the argument is weird because, even if people WERE all rich, you'd still have to work to raise animals for food, and if Poseidon decides to go rogue on you and cause a sea storm, it doesn't matter how much cash you've got when you're drowning. You can't eat gold and rubies, so you need farmers still, and while jewels are pretty to look at, it's kind of one-dimensional compared to actual art. I don't buy into the argument that people will only work for pay, though: in Hinduism, there's this concept called "Dharma", which is one's duty/way/path in life, and when one lives in accord with their Dharma, it means they're doing what their own nature intends them to do, and will therefore experience true joy in their work. I figured out ages ago that my Dharma is other people, which is kind of nebulous in terms of actual jobs, so I'm still working on that, but you can't sit me down with numbers and expect me to be happy, even if being, say, an engineer, would make me more money than being, say, a writing tutor...which is actually my current job. I like my students .It's a rotating cast, but they're good people. Besides, if people like Donald Trump and Elon Musk are rich, I don't want to be rich.

Keen minds and resources drive innovation, not the desire to not starve. Penia's point is simply what zeus would want her to say.(ie utter garbage.)

I created a lesson plan for a project for college that compared and contrasted Greek and Roman Gods. I love how some gods are similar to others with subtle differences. I took that subtly and created a where's Waldo, mythology edition scavenger hunt. My teacher loved it so much I got raving comments and an A+. Little does she know that some of my research came from your videos.... I didn't take anything specific from your videos, or I would have cited it, but your knowledge is absolutely incomparable. 😏🤫

In a discussion between myself and my protégé we came to this conclusion, The two deities should either partner up or better still get married then those who deserve it, the good people rich he makes them, and she makes the baddies poor ( then the line “the deserving poor” would be very apropos) and then people like me and my family will finally be better off and do not I disagree with her on several points but I still give her a makeover and yeah I’m very good at giving makeovers even though I think of myself as ugly and poor my kids & certain other people would disagree. And then I make her and put her on a blind date with him and I wouldn’t be a literal blind date because he’s no longer blind right but even if he is blind I think he wouldn’t enjoy having a date with somebody who is intelligent and would be willing to look after him and vice versa they’d be probably very apropos‘s together she can be as ice and he can be in a manner of speaking her protector because she probably needs one considering how they portray her although I probably teach her some kick ass moves just to be on the safe side. I’ve done it before the others it should be for others I’m using voice to text and it does not allow me to always put the things that I would wish to say properly I hope this makes sense sometimes I think the goddess lives in my house which I think is very unfair. I won’t go into details but I could prove her wrong that’s how you know she doesn’t exist.

Interesting video. I've recently read Hesiod's Works and Days and find that he practically had the same ideals as Plutus represents. He finds that wealth is having agricultural products during the harvest, and thinks gods should only favour the wise, hardworking and just people. What surprises me, then, is that Hesiod deeply admired Zeus, who directly disagrees with those ideas. Hesiod did know of Plutus, as he mentions him in his Theogony. Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

I find it weird how alike Plutus it's to Tyche the goddess of fortune (not being exactly wealth but more likely good luck) she also was blind so she was also something given in a completley ramdom way and also had a cornucopia, it's practicly a female version of him

Considering how much the social structure of the Olympians is based on the behavior of Greek nobility at the time their culture would have to have been a bit different. The world would likely be a very different place due to the butterfly effect.

so carmillius was starving the whole pantheon and didn't have a care in the world and somehow, he was still considered as a good guy?
Both wealth and poverty has valid arguments, i think like as everything, it lie on a balance between thoses extremes. Pania had a point when she said that if peoples can get wealth without doing anything, why would they do anything? not to mention if good slaves can get rich, why would they stay slaves? but Carmillius had a point when he said peoples desir of richesses make them creative and hard-working. The point here seems to be that being very poor is bad but being very rich is also bad.
