Girrrrrlll. When i grew 2 inches from braids and had to CUT those same 2 inches- i realized a braider doesn’t mean professional nor does it mean stylist.
FACTS! That hot water absolutely destroyed my natural hair. It looked fine but it felt insanely dry and rough. I thought i was going to have to chop it off. With protein treatments, deep conditioning and regular trims it was back to normal in 10 months. Never again.😢
Thank you so much for mentioning a timeframe for correction. Though your issues and mine are separate, it gives me hope. Frightened from a keratin treatment I had a week ago. Believing mine will take 6 months to repair with weekly clarifying washes and plenty of deep conditioning treatments. Thanks lady.
Her hair turned out beautifully was surprised she wanted to go shorter. The next time u see her tell her thank u for being brave enough to show us the damage that was done to her hair
Unless I’m getting regular braids (which isn’t often), I do everything in crochet styles. My hair is out of the way. The hair isn’t heavy and no heated water is required. Her hair is beautiful
It's all this mess they're doing with their hair today. I braid my niece's and daughter's hair without all that jam....hot water etc.... and their hair thrives. It's really the practices
Thanks you for sharing it important to make awareness of our hair and also how much we can damage our hair without knowing it. I am to in the same boat of damage hair from braids. Remember to embrace your natural hair and learn more about your hair (self care) 💯
My hair is long and I got it braided she went up the shaft with the hot water and I never returned. I kept the braid in 6 weeks and took them out. Luckily my hair was okay but they should know better.
I wanted to like the joyco moisture shampoo and conditioner. It was ok but I love the Amika hydro more. Also tj maxx had the jumbo bottles of the joyco for $19.99 each.
I didn't even get my braids dipped in hot water. My hair was so matted when braids were removed. I'm so happy the professional stylist was able to save my hair. I'm sure there was some damage, but my hair is a nice length and thick. I won't be getting anymore boho it's that extra hair that dreaded to my hair somehow.😢
You are supposed to dip the ends in hot water not all the way up the shaft. You still have to be careful because some hair releases a toxic chemical when submerged in hot water.Great job as always.
I wish braiders would stop dipping the hair all the way up the shaft!!! By now, we have so much evidence that it’s so damaging! I asked a braider not to do it, and they still did it anyway. I was blessed that I didn’t have extensive damage, because I took them down about a week later.
I had mines in since August 1st. Now I’m worried 😟. I’m thinking about taking mines out earlier. I was going to at least keep it in until the rest of September. Seeing these comments and video might be a sign to take it out soon to make sure my hair is ok
@@ShayBlossomHi there! I kept my Bobo braids for 3 months and my hair is going through it! It doesn’t feel or look at healthy. Now my stylist is gonna have to nurse my hair back to health. Never doing Bobo braids again
@@charnellefree1187 oh no . Thanks for telling me. I definitely will not be keeping it in for a full 3 months then. I will be taking them out in a week or so. I just hope my hair isn’t damaged. Lots of conditioner for me when I take it out .
@@ShayBlossom yes! I’m currently nursing my hair back to life. I’ve seen a lot of stylist lately stating how braids are NOT a protective style…I now see why. Monthly protein treatments, low manipulation styles, trims, and salon visits should do the trick 😊
Every time I see a title about a protective style "destroyed her hair" all I think is someone didn't take care of their hair while in the protective style. People think they can just get a protective and do NO maintenance to their hair. You still have to cleanse, hydrate, and moisturize your hair and scalp in a protective style. Especially using synthetic hair.
half the time, it's lack of care. the other half is unfortunately the installation process. I was lucky this time but I had kinky twists with no edge control and no hot water. I have to shampoo every week so I touch any ultra-frizzy sections by myself. it's just that my grip and my parting will not be as good as an experience professional braider and I'm definitely not as fast as they are.
I left braids alone in 2003 and I've never looked back...Yet, I was addicted to sew-ins until 2019...Now, I'm natural and heat free (my lil'testimony) 2024
I don’t dip my goddess or boho braids. I honestly don’t see the point. there’s loose hair covering the braid anyway. I just tie a little knot on the end. I thought I was lazy but I really didn’t see the point. Just like when braiders used to cut the braid up the shaft for strays NO! My braider used to look at me crazy. No thank you!

🎯💯🎯🌟👋🏽😉🥂🌸🌄
So true, and for my hair, I learned many years ago that braids just aren't for me.
FACTS! That hot water absolutely destroyed my natural hair. It looked fine but it felt insanely dry and rough. I thought i was going to have to chop it off. With protein treatments, deep conditioning and regular trims it was back to normal in 10 months. Never again.😢
Yeaaa i recently started adding heat protectant all over my braids then using a steamer to set them…no more dipping.

Best option for me if I ever do braids again, no need for all the breakage with crochet or braided wigs which I will consider one day
