    Make sure that when you practice, borrow a friends brand new flyline and do some casting drills on some sort of long flat surface. Tar or concrete is ideal. This way, you can give it back to him after it's nicely broken in. Friend for life.

      Well, yeah. you're just adding texture to the line. From what I hear that makes it cast farther.

      Best way to turn a floating line into an Intermediate. Now they don't have to go out and get it when they become a streamer junkie.

    OoO ...can't wait for the "casting into the wind on a #3 for beginners" episode..."here, hold my beer" ...followed by "untangling that mess" followed by "running out of tippets, patience...and beer" :D

    Another great tip video. Love the ending tip. A lot of people don't realize there's no shortcut or "Hack". You just have to get out on the water and practice!

    I flyfish for Smallmouth Bass exclusively. Larger flies, larger water, larger fish = =to larger casting issues. Honestly, if I get the fly in the fishes mouth I consider it a success! Lol I use an 8 weight, furled 7.5 ft leader with hair, foam, feather flies or streamers. Occasionally I have even lobbed a plastic crab into a sweet honey hole I know holds very large Walleye. I have improved my casting but it's tough fishing large Bass flies. Tiny hackle dries work at times but big fish really want big flies. True fact! Thanks for sharing! I subscribed! I enjoy the humor and down to earth real material!

    Awesome tips. Now ill know forever those knots that build up in the tippet are completely my fault.
    One of my first experiences fly fishing was on the Ausable here in the Adirondacks, and I didnt catch shit but those knots.
    Good to know it was because of my excessive need to yeet a 16 sulfur dun into the upper atmosphere. It was like giving sasquatch a paper airplane.

    I heard of this thing called mending. What's that? I get yelled at a lot for not doing it by the guides I've been with, but I'm just not sure. Do you have a video on on that? (ok, I'm not that bad...but I would like to know the best way to effectively mend because maybe I'm doing something wrong and if there are different types)

    That popping noise on the backcast is referred to as "the retail snap" because it means you're going back to the store for more flies. You can get the casting motion by pretending to hammer a nail into a wall. A floppy wrist won't get that done. Yep, I'm huge!

      Buying some Huge Flyfisheman merch usually solves those tipe of problems.

    • @K3Flyguy
      @K3Flyguy 4 роки тому +1

      May I make a few suggestions? Are you sure Smallies are in the water you fish? Smallies are " takers" and aggressively hunt for food. If they are in your water they will find your fly! Fish the current breaks in water at least 2 ft deep. Gently work large poppers, moderately work sliders, slow down streamers until you bump the bottom regularly and your in the game! Limit your casting directly upstream, (it requires too much stripping of line and little time in strike zone) quarter cast and learn to drift a drag less drift for clear water conditions, work riffles both front and back with the sliders. Poppers are fun to use but very easy to overwork and scare fish, use them gently. Move your rod slowly from one side to other side to move sliders in the riffle areas. Use indicator with Wooly Buggers drifting 3-6 inches off bottom. If you do some of these things I'm pretty sure you will be rewarded with Smallies fighting hard and furious!!!! Good luck! I hope you didn't mind my offerings.

    • @ZmbiBglz
      @ZmbiBglz 4 роки тому

      @@K3Flyguy thanks yea i know there are smallies I use conventional fishing tackle in the areas to good effect. I have been using poppers and am probably being to agressive and I struggle in most current just feel like im fighting it the whole time it gets frustrating but I keep trying hoping I start to figure it out eventually

    • @K3Flyguy
      @K3Flyguy 4 роки тому +1

      @@ZmbiBglz may I add, when a large bug hits the water its usually is stunned for a few moments. I have used the "drop it and leave it for a moment" effect to huge advantage. As far as struggling with the current, use the current to your advantage. Fish sliders across and down the current. It's a well known phenomenon that at the "J" bend of the quartering drift there is a higher % strike area than most of the rest of the drift! Learn to mend the line by raising for tip and tossing the slack upstream to add time to your drift. Also when casting cross stream, learn to shake your rod back and forth at the end of the cast to allow extra line to lay on the water for a longer drift. Biggest tip is to fish a tiight line pointing down stream. This is where the Slider and Streamer takes a lot of fish! If you don't bump the bottom with the streamer your missing a lot of the preferred area. Dragging a weighted Wooly Bugger upstream inch by inch across a rocky bottom will garrenteed put fish on your hook! Be sure to use a short heavy florocarbon leader for this of no more than 4 ft, hold for tip about 8 inches above the surface and watch the line loop for discreet changes that indicate a pickup! I often use a Tungsten impregnated Steelhead line to fish straight down stream through honey holes with Crawdad imitation Wooly Buggers with red glass eyes, = amazing results. If your profecient with conventional tackle, some of these tips will bring out points on your scoreboard! Good luck, and don't give up, when it all comes together you will never go back to conventional tackle!
