  • This silent film of over 1hr length contains many separate clips of the Lytton Commission's visit to Manchuria in 1932 on behalf of the League of Nations. It begins after 23 seconds.
The purpose of the visit was to investigate the famous "Manchurian Incident", which occurred on Sep. 18, 1931 and involved the blowing up of a section of track of the SMR (South Manchuria Railway). This film would be of great interest to all historians of the event.
Unfortunately, the collection of clips which make up the film are not organized chronologically or geographically; some clips have no titles of explanation, some titles have no film clips, and some titles are incorrect.
However, the viewer familiar with Manchuria's history will readily recognize all the well-known 'tourist' type locations from which so many still photos have been taken (ie, the open-pit mine in Fushun, the colliery, the Sungari (Songhua) river, the port of Darien, hill 203 Monument, etc etc). Also of great interest are various clips shot from either hot-air balloons or aircraft, and the many views of ordinary life of all races in Manchuria of the early 1930's time.
