- Taft Point is a great short hike in Yosemite National Park that is accessed off Glacier Point Road (only open in the summer). This hike is 2 miles round trip and it takes you to one of the best viewpoints in Yosemite.

Theres something about Yosemite that just so magical. It will always have a place in my heart as one of the most beautiful National Park.
I agree, it is a magical spot!
Highly recommend doing this one at sunrise. It's a huge attraction for sunset, but we went at first light and it was absolutely magical - we had the whole place to ourselves, with morning sun lighting the glittering canyon below.
Moss on trees is a sign of excessive moisture and low light levels. It is also an indication that the air is not polluted. Which is good. Moss is generally not a problem on branches and, along with lichens, can actually give a tree character and charm. And by the way, glad to see you taking your mother on the hikes, too. Hi MOM!!!!! :-D
That is awesome, thanks for the great information!
Josh, that's lichen. A good thing. Did you know that when they restore old manor houses and castles in Great Britain they have certified lichen experts come in and evaluate the more than 50 types that cover the stone walls. Why? Because over time lichen form a protective barrier and help preserve the structures. You and your Mom must have no fear of heights. That railing looks sketchy.
Gorgeous views! But yeah, the cliffs and dropoffs... eek. I would be behind the railing too. Mom is a trooper too!!
Oh gosh, you're at my most favorite National Park in the world, Yosemite! Sooo freaking beautiful!🥰 Btw....You look like your Mom!
It is hard to beat Yosemite for sure! That's awesome that you think I look like my mom too
What a nice man to bring mum along! ❤️❤️❤️
It was fun to show her some of my favorite hikes in Yosemite!
I'm gonna add this to my list of hikes to do.
Awesome, it is a good one!
I love that your Mom is with you. For those of us no longer that young, having her as a perspective is great.!
Anytime we go to yosemite with friends, we always finish the day off with taft point!
It is hard to beat at sunset for sure!
Highly recommend the loop Sentinel Dome and Taft’s Point. I did it with my adult daughter in June of 2018. Yosemite Falls was still flowing. Nice to see you mom participate in the video!
I have never done the loop, just both on their own. I will have to do the loop next time!
Looks amazing ! I’m putting this on my list. Great to see u hiking with ur mom too 💟
Been out to Taft Point twice this summer and Sentinel Dome for the first time. Incredible short hikes!
So glad you got to hike them! They are both amazing for sure
What a beautiful trail! It’s going to be a bit before we can get back up there. Thanks for sharing, and how awesome you can do this with your Mom!
Yea, I don't know when I will be able to get up there again either! I want to hike Sentinel Dome again too haha
Hey, Josh and Josh's Mom! We really want to get back to Yosemite. We haven't been there to hike since 2012. (That's too long). Thanks for taking us along for this one!
I recently did the south fork of big pine trail in inyo national forest, it was beautiful!
That is an amazing trail for sure!
Love your videos man! Thanks for all these, especially the Yosemite ones 😎
One of my favorite hikings. I just like to point that if you look Taft point from a far you can see the face of Chief Tenaya looking down the Valley. 🙂
Wow. That was amazing and somewhat scary as well 😮
I was there in 2016…I managed to crawl to the edge and look over. A special place, one day I will go back there. Thanks for the great video and the memories!
Thank you for absolutely stunning view sharing.
I love yosemite.
I've been there. I can't go there one day my love yosemite soon again .
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment!
So gorgeous! Can't wait to go there one day
I hope you get the chance to explore it!
I went there 2 years ago. A very nice place.
Looks Cool, when I went there, I did Yosemite Falls. Cool as hell.
Thanks for the tips! We are doing this tomorrow! 😝 I am so excited.
Incredible views
Incredibly fantastic views...it has been years since I was a youngster when the family visited Yosemite...a return trip is in the plans for the summer of 2021...in total hopes of a return to normal and opening of Canadian borders...taking my notes for "must do's"...thanks for sharing...
No problem, I hope you are able to visit again in 2021!
Great views Josh, you're always providing sth special👏 Btw, how enchanting you introduced your Mum to us as well.
Hi Mum!🙋
Glad you enjoyed it! It was fun to take my mom on some adventures!
Just did this trail in May 2021, cannot recommend it more, nice small hike for amazing upper valley views, being on the edge let’s you know you’re alive. I recommend if afraid of heights get close, but to be safe belly crawl near the edge, just amazing.
I will do this next time. I did the sentinel dome and its awesome views as well. Taft point looks scary! Thanks for posting
Both of them are fantastic hikes for sure!
great hike, got to visit one day!
Awesome video man, I’ll definitely look for this hike next summer
went there last summer with my parent and my wife, we didn't planned but it is really a hidden gem. We even saw a loose rope walker practicing between two cliffs!
Oh wow, that must have been pretty cool to see!
Love this hike!
I've been telling people how AMAZING Taft Point is here now that I live in TX. So close to Sentinel Dome and Glacier Point.... Fresno CA at night looks so close that you think you can touch it. The Milly Way view: sheesh! I look forward to visiting again when I visit my fam in the Central Valley.
Oh man, I bet it would be amazing to see the lights at night!
@@californiathroughmylens ya it blew my mind man. Funny thing is when me n 2 others did the Pohono trail from Tunnel view to Glacier Point over 3 days, it was in fall 2012 around your last visit time-frame. BTW thx for giving us some sanity with these beautiful locations!
Wow great hike. I don't have a fear of heights but that was scary.
Correction @ 4:49. Those are not The Three Brothers.
The Three Brothers are on the opposite side of the valley, right in between El Capitan and Yosemite Falls with Eagle Peak being the highest peak of the three rock formations. Love your videos. Hope to see you in Yosemite one of those days.
Yes it appears what you were looking at were cathedral rocks.
Oh dang, good catch! That is Cathedral Rocks, you are right!
Another gem, Josh! Wow! Stunning views! My knees go weak seeing those fissures up close. You and your mom are brave walking to the edge!
I’ll put it on my bucket list! Looks amazing
It's a great hike for sure!
So beautiful and such good information. I love your guides. So well done!!
Glad you like them! Thanks for the comment
Your videos make.me so excited to visit later this month!
So awesome, I hope you have fun!
Nice and clear views, no clouds or forest fire smoke!
It was a nice time when we went for sure.
Great video. I did Taft Point a couple years ago, and you are right. Those Fissures just seem to pop out of nowhere, so paying attention to the trail in front of you is really important in this area. Its funny how people think there not afraid of heights until the last ten feet from the edge, and then its tippy toeing closer to the edge or getting down on all fours. When there is no railing, everything you feel about heights changes. Great video josh.
Love your Mom and Dad!
Appreciate that! They are pretty cool!
I need to spend more time in and around Glacier Point Road next time I am at Yosemite. I went to Glacier Point at night for Milky Way/astro photography (totally worth it). Need to get back there. Great video!
Hell yeah bro, love your videos. Definitely hitting Yosemite when the fires are over, never been there. Will have to go back to your other videos and probably hit that hotel/motel nearby.
So awesome! You will love it, the park is incredible!
great view. We went in 2020. They were limiting the # of people in the park and it was still pretty crowded. I'm glad I got a chance to go during limited capacity. We drove in from the south side and you could see the massive damage from previous forest fires. It was an extremely dry time and the vegetation was in bad need of rainfall. I laid down on my stomach at one of the sheer drop-offs. It's insane how high these cliffs are.
We did Taft Point and Sentinel Dome on the same hike, just the right length for me. I always thought it was funny that one little section on the point had railing and everywhere else did not. Also, there are trail markers high up in the trees for cross country skiing which blew my mind as I wouldn't want to be anywhere near those cliffs on skis or with many feet of snow covering them.
i heard the road up to taft an glacier point are going to be closed all of next year :(
Oh wow, that's crazy!
2:00 I think those moss are lichen. Lichens are usually sensitive to air pollutants, so that mean air quality in Yosemite valley are great (before the Creek fire)
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Yes that green moss looking growth on the trees is lichen. They are a good sign. They are pretty much an innocuous parasite that grows on the trees in the Sierra’s. It’s intensely green there. They can only grow when the air is clean. The water levels in the park are so low this year. I went in February and there was no snow hardly and Yosemite falls was a mere trickle. It wasn’t cold at all. This is a strange year for the falls. No wonder nor cal is burning up. Good to see you Ruth your mom on a hike. Nice treat. Thanks for posting. Not fine that hike in years. It’s a jaw dropping easy hike
Oh wow... Stunning! 😍
It really is!
It looks so nice 👌
It was! Thanks for the comment!
Interesting short hike. Your videos are well done. I appreciate your work. I noticed your other channel Through My Lens as well. Do you have any other channels? Backpacking perhaps? Thanks.
Great job MOM.
Awesome video as usual! Thanks for sharing 👍!
Thanks for watching!
I was there around Labor Day 2020 to go in/out via Glacier Point (Panorama Trail) - this is also great hike - but be aware Glacier Point Road is scheduled to be CLOSED for the 2021 season as they are repairing the road
4:49 is Cathedral Rocks (Upper, Middle and Lower Rocks). The Three Brothers are the 3 peak east of the gully East of El Capitan on the north side of the valley just before the valley bends north to Yosemite Falls. In other words directly across Taft Point. 5:10 in the middle of the screen.
Hi Mom! Josh, do you think it's an ok time to go to Yosemite now, or do you think the fires/smoke make it untenable? Thanks!
Super cool video‼️👍😎
Thank you 👍
Yes!
I would say you had a better view and hiking day than I did. Mine was foggy with freezing rain. But I did have to do a selfie at the railing to show that I made it.
Another great video! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@californiathroughmylens you had me looking at reservations to go back to Yosemite this week. I'm just not sure how bad the fires and smoke are
I would like to see you hike into the Thousand Lakes Wilderness. Its a collapsed volcano ridge on the west side (Crater Peak) with the valley below of many small lakes.
Thanks for the suggestion, I would love to check that out!
Great video! Going there this weekend. When did you go? The air quality seems pretty good. No smoke
Have a good trip!! 🎄⛺🎄
This was in early August
Josh, have you considered adding some drone footage to your videos? I think places as this one would be prefect and show a great view of the dramatic drop off.
I would love to but unfortunately drones are banned in all the national parks in USA.
I thought so, but worth a try.
OMG, I didn’t know your mom goes with you as well. Hi Mom!
Any idea with Glacier Point Rd closed how punishing of a hike is it from Tunnel View to Taft and back?
Hi! just wanna ask if HORSETAIL FALL visible from this area? thanks in advance
You are one healthy family...
haha we try!
Do you think I’ll be able to go at the beggining of April?
Do we need a permit or reverse if we're only doing a Day Trip? I want to go here so bad.
We went in July and they do. Check out www.nps.gov/yose/index.htm
Starting November 1, you will not need to reserve the day pass any longer. So excited to know I can make a last minute day trip soon!
The lichen is called wolf's lichen because it was used to poison wolves by early settlers of California.
What months of the year are these two trails open? Thank you
Hey Josh, have you made any videos of the trinity alps?
I haven't! Hopefully in the future!
Is it ok now to visit Yosemite?
Can we take a bike ?
Any good hikes with a 2 year old and an infant?
I would probably just explore the valley. Check out some of my favorite spots in this video ua-cam.com/video/iIq_SP620KY/v-deo.html
Do you have a link for the yosemite hiking trail map.
Here is a link to the all trails map www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/taft-point-and-the-fissures
@@californiathroughmylens thank you.
I should be there in two weeks for a few days
👍🏻😍
Good thing you didn’t use a drone! Probably would have made me faint....
sadly can't use drones here.
haha I know what you mean, the drop is pretty crazy!
No dogs allowed?
Hey just curious no more travel California with your girlfriend
Imposing and impressive
Is this where the Indian couple fell to their unfortunate deaths?
Yes, that was at Taft Point. And it was reported that they were intoxicated.
