Stanley called, said he wants to jam, said he wants to play his bass, I told him Tory can play guitar & I’ll play drums. Stanley Jordan not Stanley Clark ❤❤❤ Love you Tory, your a great teacher❤❤❤
Personally, I think that improvising in general is a frustrating endeavor, how good you get at it is probably measured by how chill you are able to stay....
I had tried that Lar Car thing before and just tried it again and its kind of cool with the root inversion now its getting trickier with the 1st inv. but sounds cool too next ill give a shot to the 2nd... yep its cool too Slominsky ... looking for any compositions and all I found was a laxative commercial but it was cool
This is one of the most original and best concepts I’ve come across in a long time. The sound is so unique . Im so glad you came up in my feed. Subbed and liked. I love this. !!! Thank you so much 💯🎸
Great video. Love the linked triad idea and I am working on these this morning. I love the thought bubbles it is a breath of fresh air and funny as hell.
Interesting. This idea appears to be the same thing Larry Carlton devised with his "super arpeggio". I guess it shouldn't be surprising that someone else would stumble into it by accident. The only thing I'd add is that the further you go through these interlocking triads, the more 'out' you go. It's a great way to create tension and go outside in a controlled, specific way.
I am working on "Litha" by Chick Corea and it reminds me of the 1st section. Major-Minor-Major-Minor. I recently got more in the 3nps system which similarly gives you some new ideas about how to put triads.
Good stuff. I first encountered the alternating majors and minors off of the third in an early Larry Carlton video. He liked that he could modulate the tension and release by playing further up the series while maintaining melodic cohesion. (Or at least that’s how I remember his teachings.) Refreshing to hear your take on it, Tory. Cheers, D
And hey, having first heard Stanley Jordan at college in the eighties, been inspired to take your lead in developing right hand hammer ons. Making great progress with practice. Thanks!!!
Used to, but not anymore. It seems pointless in that it just deadens the lower strings (when you can just use the tone control to do essentially the same thing).
The feel and response of flats is so different though and not knowing the two handed fretting technique I was just curious if they made a difference in that respect. From your answer I'll assume not so, at least not in any positive way. . @@TorySlusher
"Use the third as the foundation of the next triad" makes sense now, thanks!
Great way to combine triads for improvisation. Bravo Tory !
Reminds me of a Debussy melodic device. Wonderful :)
I recently found your channel and I'm sure you heard this before, but you are an amazing player!!! Thank you for sharing your ideas.
I'm not at the level to understand the theory, but I know what my ears are hearing and that makes sense. Great stuff Tory, thanks
Fly like an Eagle!
DreamWeaver opener! Crazy good!

Only in your little head do you think she’s at Jordan’s level
There is no level - just musicianship
I can dig it... Let the groove flow!!! No Boundaries!!! Get lost in it...Thank U Smooth T!!!
No boundaries part 2 ;-)
A WELL THOUGHT OUT APPROACH TO EXPRESS TRIADS,GOOD JOB, WELL DONE

Ooening new channels for frustrated improvisers worldwide ... why thank you!

Dziękujemy.

And I love the singing sustainy sound on the upper notes! Regular guitar sound but enhanced...
The "Whatever" was great!😂😂😂

@@TorySlusher it kinda reminds me of the David Becker approach to triads but with a WHOLE LOT more pizaz 💥
Check out Garrison Fewell's books Jazz Guitar Improvisation

2) Harmonic Approach

Nice Harmonics, still waitin for that alien aircraft to land in your backround.
Shhhh .... We'll anger the cover-up squad
Also a very useful exercise for learning the notes on the neck, especially if you force yourself to do it horizontally.
Wow, l love this! Thanks for sharing, love your videos
Excellent lesson!
Very much appreciate these vids and your insight, thanks Tory!
Ur something else!🙂

Wow, that makes me feel like I'm not a complete idiot
Great pattern to play around with. Thanks for all your vids Tory. Your playing is inspirational.
🤗
Gosh… I’m glad to have stumbled across your channel! Now I gotta work harder at learning the guitar!
.... Didn't you start shrapnel records?
@@TorySlusher Not I. Different Varney. :)
Learning so much here.
Love the way you explain things! You’re such a powerhouse
You inspire me Tory..thank you! 🤘😔🎸 Edit: UA-cam needs to allow for more than one thumbs up...just saying.

15:00 alternating thumb and index was/is common baroque lute technique
I wasn't aware of that, neat
This is awesome, very inspiring stuff!
Gob. Smacked. Glad the algorithm parked you in my brain.
More videos like this please!!!
I've been going deep into Messiaen Mode 3 scale. I'd like to see your take and thoughts on that, if you use it.
I have used it, actually. I found that it is actually something that works sometimes when you have a chromatic progression.

The rhythmic hocketing at 13 mins and some, nice!
Damn very interesting didn't know that Larry did that
Larry Carlton does stuff like this.
So I've been told...
Sounds like Larry Carlton’s super arpeggio, no?
I can't say for sure because I've never looked into it, but several people have told me the same thing, so I'm assuming yes....
Ah thats what I was thinking but was not sure though I remember it being like that M/m
I was wondering if you ever use flatwounds.

On a tangent...no pun intended... do you know all the equations in your crazy intro graphics?
It's like a Tesla Twilight Zone.
Uh......no. 🤗
Tory, did you see the aliens at the Miami Mall? It was all over the news!
(If so, are you inspired to write a song about said aliens?)

No idea what you're talking about.... But probably

what kind of tele is that? thanks
An extremely heavily modified affinity
be cool if you did a video on just that guitar. Specs n all. Thanks
Fuck me man, those silky smooth arpeggiated lines with complete rhythmic control seems unattainable.
Economy of motion....
