An amazing film with the greatest performances and the saddest line ever - "do not leave me alone in this dark where I cannot find you.". We've all been in the dark waiting to be found.

For tis true, for few know how the dark surrounds the earth, and its surrounding planes where many discarnate souls reside, so many asleep, almost devoid of real life, their very existence under threat, waiting to be found, for they are without the truest longing for genuine beauty in the world. And here we have the story of the greatest love of all that can awaken the spirit, and lead it upward and onward to luminous planes, and eternal bliss, through the true art of selfless giving to and for another. And this love can manifest in any kind of love, albeit for nature, a pet, a vocation, a community, a family, a friend...but always, the love between a man and a woman, when they truly love one another, sets the heavens ablaze. And if you doubt my words, just look out upon the stunning beauty of the starry firmaments that don their exquisite crowns of glory o'er our heads at night, to remind us of an Almighty presence, and also some distant lovers, who perhaps you too will meet whilst wandering around and near to that Castle upon Penistone Crag...their names...Kathy and Heathcliff. I know, for once, I was there...

Never was it so dark, nor lonely, as just before I opened my heart and eyes to the light of the morning star! For the light had shone in the darkness, but the darkness recognised not the light!

The original is always the best version. I've watched it so many times, I lost count, Laurence Olivier & Vivien Leigh are perfect for the part.
I have made everyone I know watch it and even the males cried towards the end of it.
The version with Ralph Fiennes & Juliette Binoche, come a near 2nd. Th other versions don't come close.
The line in the 1939 film when Heathcliffe says, "leave her alone, she's mine", destroys me ❤ xx

It’s Merle Oberon here as Kathy, not Leigh. Olivier was married in real life to Vivian Leigh.

I am having a terrible day and the first time I saw I was in a flood of tears. And I am crying listening to this again, poor Heathcliff. 😪

I cried like a baby. Oh poor Cathy. How during your life you could throw away your very heart, your very reason for living, Heathcliff. She broke her own heart by betraying it..I know, I'm a hopeless romantic.

See Merle Oberon close her hand when he drops it. Cracks me up every time! They’re just acting. It’s a job. 😊

Merle Oberon completely overacts this whole film but especially the actual moment of Cathy’s death. As she dies her eyes open wider, and the director didn’t call for another take.

It’s as over the top as Gloria Swanson! 😂

well .....im no expert, but that was kind of the style/ school of dramatic acting for the screen in the 30s (i have the understanding that it borrow heavily from the theatrical stage ) although we could argue it came down to the preference of the actor or director as well, because there were some exceptions like Vivian Leigh or Olivia de Havilland that did gone with the wind the same year this movie came out and although still over the top, was more subtle ( specially Olivia since she also pass in the movie ).
