Care Tips for Alocasia Dragon Scale:
Light - Bright indirect sunlight - a good rule of thumb is that big thick dark leaves often will not tolerate direct sunlight.
Watering - avoid over watering - too much water will quickly cause root rot and kill the plant - leave to dry a little between watering.
Feed - low food requirements - half strength fert once a month in the growing season.
Humidity: Alocasia Dragon Scale requires higher humidity levels so a humidifier will be very useful or keeping it around lots of other plants will also create higher levels.
Re-potting - Only repot when absolutely necessary because they are particularly sensitive to root disturbance.
Toxicity: Toxic if ingested and can cause dermatitis on skin contact. Take great care around pets and children.

Well, got it for half price from Lowes lookin mighty scaley, had to repot because the soil was garbage, hasn't been looking good since - leaves are all browned a bit now, but there is a new sprout forming. We'll see how it goes! Got it alongside a healthy money tree to offer additional shade and humidity. Here's hoping!😂

I bought the Alocasia Amazonia. I’ve got on with it better than expected although the older leaf tips tend to dry and brown. I was thinking of repotting but your comments about this has warned me off! When I do I will do as you suggest and be super careful! Thanks for the info.

If you put them in pom . You will have no trouble at all . They definitely aren't as hard to keep as calathea

Thanks for sharing! I just bought my first one 3 days ago. One very interesting thing that I've noticed is that it's responding to the warm white lamp above it. After the first night of having it, its leaves have all turned to face the 3000k light. Is this something known at all? I've never had a plant that does that before.
many plants move move for light in this way. technically all of them will at their own speed, but the plants that move quickly for light is called nyctinasty. basically moving fast vs super slow takes energy and only some plants evolved that way😊
It's a fascinating thing to watch! There are still parts of variable nyctinasty that we don't fully understand, plants are smarter than we know!
For repoting, when do you know when to repot? My alocatia is in a plastic grow pot and I can feel the roots pushing up against it. the roots are still contained in the pot but I have had a couple smaller leaves emerge instead of the usual larger leaves. Should II consider repoting? thanks!
You can carefully remove the pot and take a look at the roots, if it's full of roots with little soil it will benefit from a repot. Springtime is the best time to do it.
Pests and overwater killed my first attempt but i found another and couldn't resist giving it another try... But i just learned it does well with soilless potting mixture. Do you think that's what causes most people to end up overwatering because the soil mixture isn't right?

Help! I bought one of these recently and it hasn't done well, losing leaves etc. Bought a moisture meter which reads 'wet' so I've bought perlite to improve drainage😢 but your comments about reporting are a worry. Any advice please?
Oh no! Sorry to hear that, they can be quite picky to be honest, they don't like getting too wet, all you can do is wait for it to dry out now for a while and hope it picks up again. Good luck.
For those using a moisture meter… Where would the meter need to register for it to need watering?
If you have the moisture meter half way down into the soil, just as the meter goes from moist over to dry then you can water again.
Pests?
My girlfriend’s group just gave me this plant … it’s a baby one … and it came with a self watering glass pot underneath … it was empty when they gave it to me but the soil is still moist … I filled the watering pot back up with rain water … should I pore it back out until it dry all the way out?
What a lovely gift! Rainwater is great for this plant but yes it is better to let the soil dry out before watering again, a self watering pot can be handy for some plants but for this one it is probably not a good idea. Keep an eye on the soil and once it starts to dry out then you can water well with rainwater. Good luck, they can be quite a handful to look after but a beautifl one to own all the same.
That has to be fake! How in the world did you ever! I have one of those and it is such a slow grower. Each time one leaf comes in, another dies off. That is just gorgeous! I have a Dragon Scale and a Silver Dragon and they are both beautiful.
