Thanks for the review! Always great to see people using my products. They started as a passion project, and I'm happy to know that over 10 years later, they're still finding new advocates!
Here's how you do d30 without RNGs or special dice: Roll a d10 and a d3 (So a d6, divide result by 2 and round up; ideally you'd roll a die labeled 0-2, but these are not very common). The d3 determines the tens digit of the result. For 1, treat the d10 as whichever number it comes up (so 1-10). For 2, add 10 to this (so the d10 generatees 11-20), and for 3 you add 20 to this (thus 21-30). Sounds more complicated than it is, you essentially just generate the first and second digit separately. Of course, most of the time one will just have some device on hand to generate 1-30. But then that goes for all dice anyway.
The Armory invented the d30 in the 80s & published 3 books of d30 tables to support the die sales. They are labeled "universal," but are only compatible with D&D. The titles were Gaming Tables, Character & Other Tales, & Adventure & Other Tales. They are long out of print, but can still be found for sale in the wild.
There's a lot of good stuff here, however I think some of the tables should be on a bell curve. Specifically the terrain generation comes to mind. if your first hex is a forest area the hex next to it is probably forest as well. But maybe I'm just splitting hairs.

Thanks for making great products!

Yeah! The books describe that method of rolling too. Its a good option if you like the physical feel of rolling dice, but don't have a d30.
Excellent review! I solved the D30 problem by turning the best 20 alternatives into D20 lists.
That's a good way to do it too!

Cool! Thanks for sharing. I only knew it from Dungeon Crawl Classics, which probably shows my age.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't design a game around the d30. There is certainly potential for some very different probabilities with a 1-30.
Bought both books. Will use them with BX and OSE Advanced. I solo play mostly so these will be a great help.
Cool, hope they work well for you!
Looks like a good resource for both DMs and solo players.
You can also ask your Alexa or Siri to pick a random number
Yeah, you can come up with a lot of procedurally generated content for both GM and solo player
You could also roll a d4-1 with a d10 for the d30 roll.
I once bought a d30 specifically for these books 😂
Big Dragon Games accessories are fantastic! I'm a big fan.
Yes, I've been impressed by their products!

Yes, that's a fair point! That reminds me of the Hex Flower method for generating terrain by Goblin's Henchman
Pretty interested in these books now
I have had some really nice use out of them even if I don't use all of the tables.
@@Earthmote yea just the sheer inspiration you could generate from them is intriguing
I have PDFs of these and they’re excellent resources. Big Dragon Games is good stuff. I need to order POD’s of them. Good review 👍
Thank you! Yes, I've found them quite handy
New Big Dragon makes excellent products. If you haven’t got it already, their Creature Compendium is great.
I don't have that one! But I have his more recent one "Creature Cache"
Will you do a video showing the d30 Sandbox in actual use and not pointless ex/samples?
