Es ist einfach eine herrliche Sinfonie mit äußerst anspruchsvollen aber
traumhaft schönen Hornpasssagen,die hier meisterhaft vorgetragen werden.
Schade, dass dieses Werk zu selten in der Öffentlichkeit zu hören ist ! Haydn war ein

Das weckt Erinnerungen an den 2. Satz von Bruckners 2. Symphonie.
(1772 ca) Prodotto tipico dello Sturm und Drang, è caratterizzata, oltre che dalla irruenza espressiva , da alcune novità nel campo armonico e strumentale e da qualche bizzarria di struttura, come quasi tutte le opere di questo periodo. Vale anche qui la considerazione fatta, a proposito di altre sinfonie haydniane, circa l'inspiegabile indifferenza che circonda una pagina così ricca, vivace e avvincente, un vero gioiello della musica settecentesca. MrFiddler66 sono completamente d' accordo con te. Haydn sembra considerato creatore di opere solo allegre, spensierate, ma io noto in alcune una profondezza espressiva ed anche una velata malinconia e tristezza. Cose che attribuiscono solo a Mozart o Beethoven. Anche Haydn esprimeva i propri tormenti e drammi interiori. Un esempio tra tanti la sinfonia 43 ' Mercury' il primo movimento....il violino solista nostalgicamente sembra che narri con infinita dolcezza di cose ormai passate...fa venire le lacrime
Quel momento "nostalgico" come lo chiami tu, in effetti altro non è che il secondo tema diverso dal primo nelle sue funzioni espressive, difficile da riconoscere perché molto simile al primo tema che dopo una falsa ripresa in piena regola con una patetica dissonanza dovuta alla frizione delle linee dei primi e secondi violini per la durata di una battuta: ed ecco meravigliosamente apparire un'eco del doloroso mondo del "Filosofo". Amate Haydn e ascoltatelo con attenzione si faranno scoperte interessantissime. Ciao

La serie sinfonica completa da te scelta rispetto alle altre raccolte mi sembra la piu' equilibrata e forse complessivamente la piu' attinente alla musica del passato. Ora sto scoprendo un' altro grande compositore che non e' altro che il fratello di Joseph, Michael Haydn. E' ancor piu' sottovalutato, ma se ascolti le sue sinfonie in special modo quelle di Harold Faberman, riscopri momenti molto intensi di grande inventiva. E' vero , manca l' incisivita', lo Sturm und Drang e l' imponenza del piu' noto fratello (che tra l' altro sara' ripresa da Beethoven) ma a mio parere in Michael in certi passaggi c' e' una calda vena melodica romantica non riscontrabile nei contemporanei anche se ci possiamo in parte avvicinare a Mozart

The First Horn passages at 18:47 and 23:45 are too easy for my taste, I would have liked to hear something more challenging...

You have missed the point; written in 1774 Haydn’s players were using natural horns of the time, not modern ones - the music would have been beyond the capabilities of most contemporary players.
This symphony showcases the phenomenal skills of the two horn players with challenging music including asking them to play at the very extremes of the instrument’s range.
In short; anything more challenging could not have been played by a horn c.1774.
