I should've learned of the 12-year "Pig War" in school. I feel cheated of that important historical episode in my education. Seriously, I appreciate the historical facts you share with us viewers. Your interest in local history is always impressive and enlightening.
Your videos of the natural beauty and wildlife among the San Juan Achipelago (incl Gulf Islands) truly does justice to this area as one of the most beautiful, unspoiled sailing grounds in North America and the world. The wildlife is especially uplifting. Thank you..
As far as sailing videos go, you guys hike more than most. It adds another level to places many will never visit. It would appear that Malin forgot one of the rules of hiking. The first hiker get the spider webs. A wise hiker has a hiking stick or a Johan for the spider webs. ; )>
Watching your wonderful videos in bed is the best ever start to our weekend. So much talent and beauty, we are so sad when they come to the end. We had a five year retirement adventure on our boat, only it was a narrow boat on the English canals, but still had to overcome the haircutting, including our dog, that's probably as close as we came to your adventure. Cheers Mac & Jacquie
The fact that you are sailing to quite beautiful places does help but your way of filming, editing and telling makes everything even more special. Loved (!) the old tree by the beach in Isla Sucia!
Wow! I loved seeing Sucia island through your eyes. It’s one of my favourite destinations in the San Juan’s. My family and I have spent many hours sitting on that wooden bench watching the sunset and world go by. Although it’s hard to keep a 4 and 6 year old in one place for long! Thanks for the great videos, can’t wait to see what’s coming up next! Cheers 🍻 🇨🇦
It’s funny how serious Johan looks while cutting Malin’s hair, other times under pressure he’s smiling or joking, but cutting her hair...dead serious, I guess he knows what’s important, nice job on both haircuts Johan!
Beautiful scenery. I have said this before, yet this area reminds me of my previous sailing ground in and among the islands of Maine, specifically Penobscot Bay and Eastward as well as further south in Casco Bay. Just very special nature and cruising. 😊👍👌🤘⛵️🚣⚓️🍷
Such a beautiful video. The scenery, and the Attenborough-like voiceover from Johan... WOW! You two really have outdone yourselves! NatGeo should seriously contract you as a source. Malin, your editing is phenomenal, thank you so much (again) for sharing your world experience with those of us still roped to a desk!
just saw that you bought a van de Stadt sailboat, when Iwas a kid in the late 1950ies we lived above a Mr van de Stadt and I remember my father saying he was a boat architect. This was in Plumstead South Africa.
You are doing a fantastic job of documenting the stunning beauty of one part of the Pacific Northwest! I have lived in Oregon since 1977 (having grown up in Ohio and Indiana) and I am still to this day in awe of the natural beauty of Washington, Oregon and northern California.
AWESOME! I found your channel in January. I have no plowed true all 143 episodes in 6 weeks. (My family thinks I'm nuts😁) You guys are the best! 😉👍❤ Fantastic video's and a really interesting story in every episode. I have learned a lot about sailing and all the places you have visit. And I love your cool and calm personalities. You're a great inspiration for me, and im sure a lot of people. Keep up the good work 😉👍 The snow is still falling here in Hälsingland I Sweden, so you can imagine the impact your videos are doing on me. I have been working on a seismic vessel in Brazil and Caribbean sea for about 3 years between 2011-2014. And I love being out at sea. I hope that I can do something similar as you in the future. Looking forward for more episodes. Med vänlig hälsning Björn Stener 🏴☠️❤😁👍⛵🌞
You never disappoint with your beautiful productions. If I may make a suggestion for the new ‘chain chute’ - have you considered making one out of fibreglass it may be more slippery and more enduring? Perhaps.🤔
How to make your boat quieter: Find surfaces on the boat that "drum" or "ring" when you tap on the surface with the end of your fingers. These are the surfaces that need a damping material. They are usually flat surfaces like bulkheads or storage compartments, any surface that is a solid part of the boat. Buy some short loop rubber backed rug at stores like WalMart and some all purpose silicone adhesive in a cartridge, a cartridge gun and a yellow handle tin snip. With the tin snips cut a piece of rug to fit the surface. Apply the silicone to the rubber side of the rug. Do not cover the whole surface but apply small thumbnail size buttons about 1/4 inch thick on about a 1 inch grid. This allows air space around each button so the silone can cure. Work quickly so you can apply the rug before the silicone skins over. It doesn't have to be pretty. Apply the rug to the surface pressing the rug smooth all over with your hands to make even contact. If you have a large vertical surface to cover, cut a piece of stiff corrugated cardboard the same size and shape as the rug piece, lay flat then rug on top, rubber up, then apply silicone. Then use the cardboard to help you tilt the rug up to the surface. Allow about a day for silicone to cure. Don't use on surfaces in the engine compartment. Fire could cause toxic gasses or support combustion. The more surfaces you cover, the quieter the boat gets. Worked for me.
At 12:36, what is that metal round object sticking out from your port bow? Thanks once again for excellent footage. Best video presentation on UA-cam sailing continuing on. The Alaskan adventure series should receive some kind of honor for sure. Without a doubt the best put together for entertainment, information, and craftmanship.
I just watched your latest video this morning and loved it! Now im hooked! im working backwards, but that ok, there awesome! I sail a Tartan 34C here in Long Island New York, and watching you two inspires me , and im looking forward to the first sail of the season. Thank you for all your time and effort in making this video documentary of your journey and adventure, it allows all of us to live a little through your adventures!
Your. Videos are a breath of fresh air during the dreary Northwest winter days. I have cruised the San Juan islands and your videos remind me of cruises to come. Thank you.
Too late now I know but hope you had a chance to check out Garrison Bay. Great protected all weather anchorage with good holding, English Camp, hiking trails, and good crabbing...
I wonder about cleaning the chain. Perhaps something like CLR...... a mild acid you can pick up at most US grocery, hardware or Walmart stores. My thinking is that it's the little bits of plant and other that's keeping it from sliding past itself. Great videos. Thank you
Beautiful. It was especially fun to watch this one for me. I make an annual trip to the San Juans from the eastern part of WA with my little trailer sailer. Sucia is my favorite and you showed it well, has me longing to return this summer.
Great video guys , always good to follow your travels. We get some pretty good tide rips through the thighs passes and channels . Pay attention to your tide charts and you will travel just fine. Faire wyndes.
Johan, it is okey to spare a bit, but its not nessesary. We all love your Easter-Island head!! ;D ... I don't know if any vikings got that far but its not unthinkable, seeing you and Malin!
Malin & Johan, thank you for another insight in the beauty of the Pacific-Northwest! Perfect editing and matching music! We have to get you to half a million subscribers! ;-)
Really nice video, but you have some nasty weather headed your way. Might be interesting to see how you handle bad weather , and how you hunker down to stay safe . Best to you both !
Amazing cinematography! This is probably the best footage I have ever seen of the San Juan islands. You two add a quality of perspective to the video that leaves me feeling as if I was there with you. The way you capture images of wildlife and scenery is truly amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this.
While you are in the states find a Sally Beauty Supply. Buy some hair cutting shears and a nylon hair cutting cape. It wont cost to much money and you will see a big difference in they cutting of your hair. They also have clippers with guides so you have a better cut. It would do your beard also. I think both of your hair looks good. These products if you buy them should last you many years. One trick is to NEVER use hair cutting scissors on paper or cloth. And always wash and line dry your cape. I am a hair stylist and you will not regret your purchase. Not sure what you use on the floor for easy clean up but a cheap plastic shower curtain works great. Love your videos. .
Beauty awaits within my own backyard. Thank you for exploring, learning our history and documenting with care and love. Hope the refit is going smooth and successfully.
You always make the best episodes on UA-cam. The only series we watch every week as soon as they are posted. You should make a hair cut video special edition. Johan is a master cutter, Malin's hair turned out really cute ! Thanks so much!
Iam from Alaska and I have done this route 6 or 7 times. What blows my mind is that you have been showing flat and glassy conditions from Seward to the San Juan's..... crazy. We get a lot of that, but I've never seen it like for the whole passage to Bellingham.
That is my home, the area I grew up sailing, now I live 1,000 miles south, I got tired of being cold and wet. I've circumnavigated Vancouver Island twice, both the inside and the outside are enjoyable, albeit quite different.
Outstanding video. Beautiful places enhanced by your fabulous photography/videography and editing. I also use a 'No. 1' for my hair. Easy to do, but sometime I also come out uneven. 😜
Wow, I can not believe you are the only boat there. Whenever I have been there it is packed full of boats and hard to find a place to anchor. Must remember to go at the end of the season. So much nicer
Yea Anytime from Sept. or Oct. is a great time to go. The kids are back in school, trailer boats with no heat are in the driveway, so it's pretty mellow. Usually have anchorages to yourself, or a just couple other boats. Evenings get a little cool, though.
Thanks for sharing another beautiful life episode. The quality of your videos is top notch. The sights and sounds you share are appreciated. Keep safe. Peace
I have lived here almost my entire life and am just now seeing some of these beautiful places through your amazing perspective and lovely videos! Thank you for giving me the chance to experience these special places now. The drone segments are so awesome!
It's always fun to see my backyard! I live on San Juan Island and based on the dates, I think I was up to Sucia Island on a cruise just a few days before you. I think you've captured the essence of Sucia very well. I look forward to future videos of other places in the San Juans.
@@MrRourk Occasionally. He's over on Lopez these days and I'm on San Juan. Each island tends to be its own community. It's only 4 miles as the crow flies from my house to Fisherman Bay on Lopez where he moors his boat but literally three hours to drive what with the ferry ride between us. I see his boat out sailing every once in a while.
Stellar photography with a beautiful storyline that's both informative and entertaining. I love the way you document your travels. I missed seeing the arbutus trees and sandstone beaches.
I think that this is your best yet. You both must have enjoyed filming and editing this one. This is by far the best videography of any channel that I watch. Thank you!
I love Sucia! We sailed there twice in the '80s.

Sucia Island is my favorite! I grew up sailing the San Juan and Canadian Gulf islands every summer as a kid.
The fact that you are sailing to quite beautiful places does help but your way of filming, editing and telling makes everything even more special. Loved (!) the old tree by the beach in Isla Sucia!
thank you both so much once again
Beautiful drone view of horseshoe cove! The historic presentation's are great subject matter with respect to your surroundings.
Wow!
I loved seeing Sucia island through your eyes.

Best sailing couple on the planet. Down to Earth and talented in all things sailing. My hat is off to you both 🎩
You always surprise us. Sailor, engine mechanic, now hair dresser. Once again such beautiful nature. RAN is taking you such wonderful places.
WOW! The quality of your videos are phenomenal, volume levels are right-on and the music is perfectly blended. Real professionals

I love Sucia! I'm so glad you got to visit this gem! My first sailing trip featured that island and I went there for my 15th birthday!
One of my favorites from you - really well done :)
Your vlogs never disappoint. Thanks for taking us along. Thumbed.
Best Sailing Channel on UA-cam by a mile - thanks

Beautiful drone shots of the islands in your opening. Several other stunning shots as well. Compliments to the photographer, editor & barber.

Beautifully captured via your video footage. Fair Winds!
try warming up those tortillas on the open flame of the stove top, couple of seconds (5) on each side. huge improvement in texture and taste! cheers!
So many wonderful vignettes in this one!
Beautiful video, very nice framing of the shoots..The desire for perfection is quite obvious. Makes editing so much smoother..

Great video, with that new stove you are becoming a food channel as well as a sailing channel. I like it.
Awesome ❤️
