I really like Apocalypse. I feel like the scaling back on his ability compared to Thor and his global compared to Dark Phoenix might just be down to him having overcrush to make up for it. I'm sure it's not technically as good as either but I always liked overcrush so I'll take it, especially because I never managed to pull that SR Thor.
Man, coming back after buying the AoU starter and a bunch of boosters from that same set a few years back I can see the power creep has gone a long way, just like the early days of Magic when the creatures were just awful overall, then are super-strong nowadays.
There's definitely been some power creep - Lilandra SR and Colossus R from Dark Phoenix are Yu-Gi-Oh Jinzo and AvX Colossus for one less, for example. But other things have just been reprinted, perhaps with a different rarity - Johnny Storm (AvX Uncommon) to Jubilee (Dark Phoenix SR). And still other things have been nerfed (Shriek vs SW Wolverine R) or rebalanced (Apocalypse, Phoenix Force Cyclops, Jane Foster SRs mentioned in the video). On balanced, there probably are more strong cards in an average set than in the past, though it depends what you're comparing with: AvX was a very strong opening set; AoU was perhaps itself a rebalancing. It was my first set and I love it, but it is known not to have the greatest number of goodies 🙂
@@DiceMastersUnited Thank you for your time! I like to delve into the meta of games such as these, specifically how cards compare to each other, do you know where I can read more?
I don't know of too much comparative stuff in written form, but I did do this on different kinds of ramp a while back: dmunited.eu/how-to-play/4-ramp-and-bag-manipulation/
Your mention of Spider-Gwen and Molecule Man makes me wonder how competitive that could be adding a Front Line or Invisible Woman.
🤔 Removal+buff ftw!

Yes, he really does offer a very good package!
