not smart enough to be pharmacist? lol! i wasn't smart enough to be a chemist, so i became a pharmacist.
I really enjoyed this video, I'm a 22 years old student on Chile, on my 2th year doing my Bachelor Degree on Chemistry, I was studing Ambiental Engineering and with my chemistry classes I realiced that chemistry was the thing that I wanted to do the rest of my life. So wish me luck on this journey, thanks to Brady and the professor Poliakoff for all this inspiring videos, and all the people on the Chemistry Department on Nottingham University, thanks a lot.
And Neil?
I love this channel! I'm 10 years old and I want to become a chemist. Thanks to you, I know LOTS about the PeriodicTable and the Elements. Thanks so much!!!
"Saw the application...which is something I didn't see in school."
This is a problem with the university system in the US right now.
"Real-World experience" is severely lacking in the undergraduate levels in the states.
When I attended graduate school, I worked in research with NASA, and NOAA and got the "what does this mean?", but in my undergraduate studies, there wasn't a lot of "here's where they use this in the real-world".
I can't help but think that would be beneficial for undergraduates.
I'm sorry did he just say he found chemistry the easiest a-level?! What?!
I fell in love with Chemistry when I was twelve and developed my interest thanks to an awesome teacher in my middle school that would show us all kinds of reactions, my middle school didn't have a lab so she used to take a select group of students to a High School lab to further experiment. I turned to Architecture when I went to High School and I have always been more artistically minded but I still want to get into Chemistry at a professional level down the road. I don't know. maybe Nottinghm
1:11 kinda imagine him standing at the end of his master going "is this really it? MOAR KNOWLEDGE!!!!!"
@colinstu They're the usual award to show your skills in a particular subject. They tend to cover a range of abilities and as a result they're quite easy to pass, this does not mean it isn't an achievement to get 80% or A grade
This is fantastic. Professionals in academics, one of the tougher fields to make a choice to go into, describing what influenced their choices. This is the perfect video for me, as I am about to start my college experience, and their experience is really informative in this instance.
chemistry = exploring the true science
I'm glad you all chose to go into chemistry, because your now educating thousands on the Internet and across the world. Kudos to you all. :)
I've actually applied to nottingham for BSc chemistry this year :). Love the videos.
i just had subscribed to your channel.... AWESOME!!!
i almost finished my first year in chemistry at University of Milano, Italy and thanks to you
i can enjoy really much what i'm learning!!!
so THANKS A LOT
if afraid it all requires excellent math grades. ALGEBRA is the common denominator (pun intended) linking pre-calc, calculus, chemistry, and physics. ignore everything else till such time you get comfortable with algebra. that's the secret.
I am a chemistry student and proud of it! I love chemistry because I am cool like that!
There are.... so few jobs for chemistry at the moment. I've decided I'm going to go do my masters degree. Hopefully through research as exams don't sit well with me. I need the link between whats in the books and whats on the bench.
We need a chemical engineering channel NOW!
Can we get an interview with Neil, please?
Idk what to pick :PPP
IT or chemistry i really like both but i can never make up my mind
I think this is fascinating. I don't have the knack for science but I'm so glad that there a people out there that are passionate about it!
I am doing my 1st year of Chemistry study on University of Maribor in Slovenia. So far the study is 99% what I expected it to be and I am enjoying every second of it. The only problem is Math. Even though I scored 80% on my Math A levels, I am failing it here. Any advice for me?
Also I like this channel a lot, it expends my knowledge about Chemistry and allows me to see Elements I never could in Slovenia (One of the things I hope to see is Hydrofluoric acid eating away at glass), so Thank you.
Thanks for posting this. I'm currently a working towards my Masters in Chemistry and have strongly considered going for my Doctorate. I'm definitely going for my doctorate now because many of the reasons they gave are the same reasons I want to go to doctorate school.
I've got a question. As an alcoholic, (white cider), I have a problem with my straw, (I have 50% of my teeth left so I use a straw), rising in the glass and falling out onto my desk every time I make the glass 'full' again. I thought I'd invented a new product when I 'weighted' the straw by attaching a ring of plasticine to the bottom of it. But when I 'draw' on the straw, with the weight on it, it spews foam out of the top. I tried a few times and then removed the weight. What's happening here?
I'm currently doing a Pharmacy degree, however I did apply to do Chemistry, I still love the subject.
Future chemist here ! Thank you Brady Haran and all the people at the University of Nottingham for inspiring me !
Thank you for making these videos.
I hope you enjoy making them as much as we enjoy watching them.
Brady... Have you got any idea how many people you affect and how much you affect them?!?! Do you have?! You should be ashamed! Your channel and everything here is just PURE GOLD!! Science is the best....
Pete strikes a point there.. though I'm to stubborn to give up now, so it will be a second course of studies for me, not changing in the middle of one.
I think chemistry is fun but its not something I would like to do. But one thing I do know is that these guys are smart really really smart
chemistry is just too awesome
Family physicists
Brady please do one with all the profs from Sixty Symbols!
I'm repeating my 1st year on applied chemistry. I love chemistry but I hate exams. Luckily this channel and the man (Prof Poliakoff) and his colleagues taught me to be interested more in my studies.
@Koroistro Nano is a big subject, with physics you will understand the "Why" but with a Chemestry or similar (Chemical Eng., Material Eng., Bio-Stuffs, etc.) you will undartand the "How", after that, Robotics and Mechanical Eng. we help you with the purpose...
tears me up all the time
love love love chemistry. i'm finding these days i'm really really interested physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, energy waves, and also physics, maths, radio, electricity. I just don't get the time to learn all the subjects as much as I'd like!
I'm 15 years old and I'm very, very interested in science, especially in chemistry. Just a little question:
I'm German so would there be any problems at studying at Nottingham after completing school?
I just got accepted into the University of Queensland, studying a bachelor of science. I'm going to major in chemistry and then do postgraduate study, to hopefully become a researcher.
Excellent!
@punishedexistence I'm 45 and a molecular biology student. Don't worry about the money part, it will come in time. Go back to school because you want to, to learn, to experience, to make a difference. Your age might be more of a plus when you look for work, as you'll be more settled and more stable in life.
Trust science and chemestry. It never let you down. Plus is a real thing!
I started studying chemistry at the university because it was my best subject from... I guess you call it high school, age 16-19 (grades 11-13). I got B+ and A- grades without any more effort than paying attention in class, and i learned the concepts pretty fast and well, so i thought i'd study it.
At the start of my fourth semester studying chemistry i decided to drop out and instead study computer engineering. Computers are my passion.
"Take your passion and make it happen"
@tybo09 It's a great school overall. My cousin is taking art education there and two women who graduated as business majors from there opened Johnson & Wales University, the school I go to now.
Awesome video. Can we have some annotations linking to the video snapshots shown?
amazing people
@JumpingNoCrime There was a video called how to become a Professor.
@Firesoar13 Sorry to hear that :(
When I was 8 my dad wanted me to be a Doctor, but he never forced me and he happily accepted my decision to become a Chemist, when I told him that doing Chemistry makes me happy. Your dad should be ashamed.
@erichill13
A levels, which stand for 'advanced' levels, are exams taken optionally after GCSE's in the UK.
I'm going to graduate with a BA in Chemistry at the end of this spring... I didn't apply to any schools or what not, so I don't know exactly what to do with my year away from school...
@punishedexistence 32 is nowhere near too old. I remember reading a story of a women who graduated from college in her 80's
@Kakashinoor If you're talking about the Chemistry Regents in NY, I thought that was pretty easy... then again I'm a chem major now...
@Firesoar13 Millersville?
I worked in graduate school with some Millersville graduates.
Pretty good Meteorology program there.
@Koroistro You could study nanotecnological Engineering, mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, etc.
I love Chemistry :) 3rd year I found green chemistry :) want to contune this :)
Biochem is where it is at Professor!
i love this channel and all your vidoes...but most of all i love how there arent any haters!!! Im 15 and it seems everywhere i go people r critizing... not here though just look at the like bar!
We need, want and demand a "Pete and Neil blowing up stuff" channel NOW!
@punishedexistence Never to late to yearn for something you love.
Studying maths, chemistry and physics now, prolly gonna go on with maths and chemistry further on into university
@erichill13 I think it means the first course level of a subject.
im a bio undergrad right now with no path in sight but i know i want to work as a scientist
@TheArchanoz
Chemistry is way more fun and interesting, but you will have a better chance of a job with IT I think.
@warsame0208 The only A Level lessons I ever looked forward to.
i love Chemistry
@colinstu an examination you take to enter University.
PETE IS BACK!
I like her academic research
Could you do a physics one!!! :D Thanks for sharinggg!!
excellent video, as always
@periodicvideos One can only hope :)
@nerdyl0l0l cool man, good luck. Same here in biochemistry.
@JoelT23 i suppose i assume, because it's "just another a retail job".
1:57 I got the physical chemistry book even my university doesn't use it. (because here is Japan)
Great vid thanks for sharing
How about physical chemistry??
I just turned 13 and i couldnt think of anything else i would want to do
I earned my degree in organobiochemistry, did nothing with it due to, well, adverse problems, got into a crappy job making signs which I still enjoy but pays total crap....watching this, it's still not too late to get back to school. After all, I feel I have amassed at least a master's degree in all things chemistry, so really, is 32 too late to go back to school? The only problem is money. Nowadays you have to be born into money to get access to a decent education...it sucks. But I will try.
wow chemistry
Could you post a link of thaht video, please.(?) I can't find it. :/
I would love to further my study in chemistry when I leave school (im in my final year), but I dont know where the money would come from =(
How Do You Register an Element..?
@GnomeClubProductions you can buy most animals from butchers if they are big enough. sometimes you'll be lucky enough to get 'special' such orders
@punishedexistence I know exactly how you feel, I'm 30 years old and hate what I do. I'm planning on going back as soon as I get some financial aid :(
I'm confused now... I have a real strong deja-vu and I'm wondering the whole video "didn't I see this already?"
So I have to ask: Haven't you already done such a video?
She's stunning.
This is awesome, thanks :)
I am considering 2 options 1. Becoming a chemist and 2. Becoming a Physicist I don't know what to choose!
i really woud like to be a siencist , i know a bit about it but at school it is all bad so can i be a siencist
plz reply
another brilliant lesson from the fuckin wheetos man... cheers
@Zweistein001 Actually, my dad doesn't give a rats ass about my life. It was my mom that really did it, though she made him help her.
They aren't even my real parents and I have pretty much written them off. Maybe I'll go to Millersville University, someday. But that is a long way off.
@grnlfe01
Who's Welsh aside from Pete?
@gonegonego Indeed.
do you know "jan tenner"? just asking because of your name;)
@Zweistein001 Google Khan Academy. It has great practical tutorials for even very high level math.
you all chose it right.
Hey guys Im a young kid I'm 13 and I'm in 7th grade and Im wanting to become a chemist because I'm in algebra and I'm good at it and it seems so interesting to me. Yes call me a nerd :)
@JoelT23 Which University?
Ok serious question, if I had to get rid of Walter, could you cook?
