Good question. Maybe it means she is divided in whether she really wants to dare looking at reality? I'm not sure. You make a good point, and it seems to me that she IS sick of shadows. Maybe the poem needed that extra syllable, of course, but that's a weak reason to add "half-." I'm back to my first idea -- that she is half-afraid.
SixMinuteScholar Thank you very much for your insight, and for answering. Looking at it as you did, I have to agree, she seems to be sick, and the explanation you came up is a perfect fit for the poem, thank you once again.
@@SixMinuteScholar hello mam, I've an observation here. I think that these last two stanzas have a similar motion as she feels gloomy or sad (blue/sick) when she sees Knights or lovers and then again last stanza, first line "but in her web she still delights". Could it be that she also enjoys her art, creative activities and of course also fears that the color she puts in her art may not be in outside world as it seems. Because you know, she is cursed( societal in a sense that hints towards she has been loaded with fear). That's why she is "half-sick"?
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you! Wish my prof had explained the poem this clearly.
You've become my poetry professor because of this online classes set-up
In this poetry what do the word curse and weaveth ?
awesome! the body snatcher next please
why "half-sick" instead of "sick"? I mean it is a VERY BEAUTIFUL line, but does "half-sick" means that she's just mildly sick of shadows?
