When I was there on holidays recently I found out I get at least $15 an hour more in my industry in Australia, plus the food is a lot more expensive in NZ so there is no way I would move there even though I love it and could move with no visa due to being Australian. I’m an early childhood educator. Plus all the Kiwis over here say it’s not financially viable for them to live in their own country because wages are so much higher in Australia and cost of living lower here, increase your wages and your own residents would return is my advice.
@@thebigaverage-jordanspeck9045 I immigrated here 18 years ago. Best move I ever made. My wife was born and raised here and we met in the UK. I've never encountered any negativity from Kiwis, but like I said above, integration is key. 😁
Speaking to recent immigrants from home here in Perth,it was all down to the insanely high prices back home. No other reason, the WA govt here ,are offering tradies from home,$10K to move here. The problem wirh that, there isn't enough housing to accommodate these people, if you're thinking of moving here, try and secure a place before moving. Its not that easy.
Thank you for this video! I have been watching all of your videos. I'm a nurse in Washington state in the United States looking to move my family to New Zealand. My biggest concern is I have a chronic autoimmune disease, Crohn's disease, and as I'm getting ready to pay the big chunks of money to start our visas, I'm very worried about getting denied based on medical admissibility. I saw the video of the gentleman with diabetes, do you know of anyone else who has a more serious disease that was able to get a medical waiver? And if having jobs that are on the green list (my husband and I) would help at all in that matter?
The issue is salaries and cost of living in NZ are not competitive. Makes no sense for an Ausi or Kiwi to come/return to NZ. Builders and tradies in huge demand in Aus etc, and in past 10 years cost of living in NZ has become terrible and house prices and low salaries make it really hard to go to NZ.
I’m so glad I came across this video as I’m really praying they make some significant changes to the skilled migrant visa. My son and family came over 18 months ago from Uk and has taken a real hit in salary, but they love it and want to stay but crikey it’s so tough to get close to being eligible for residency. Came to fill a job that the company hadn’t been able to for 2 years, spending thousands just to set foot in the country. Earning $38 per hour, with 20 years experience in his trade, but can’t get the 1.5 median wage, which he will have to be on for 3 years and has to also gain 3 years work experience which is crazy when he already has 20 years under his belt. They are so stressed, and feel very let down. And if no pathway to residence at end of visa booted out and have to reapply to return after 12 months, even tho their kids will be at the end of their education! I’m so sorry for ranting but it’s tough to watch what they imagined to be new lives here in NZ just feel like it’s an impossible dream.
Young people are so fortunate now days to have all the technology to see what's going on in the world. It's not like we need to go away for long. I went in my late 40s and did live in care work in the . When I returned this type of job was in high demand. So trends are forever transforming
My family is looking at migration from the USA- we are both registered nurses. It’s hard because we have never been, but in Australia they do have higher wages and a lower cost of living because of the isolation and need for imports. However, we’ve heard great things about the social and environmental factors in NZ. If the immigration process is easier in NZ, we will definitely keep it in mind.
Nurse wages are not enough to live in the two largest cities Auckland or Wellington but it certainly is enough to live well in christchurch the third largest city or anywhere else in NZ. Also nurses are in high demand right now, you should be fast tracked assuming bureaucracy doesn't get in the way.
So my husband was a tradesperson overseasas a manager, and we thought things would be easy in NZ. Then we found it difficult to get licensed, including the time needed and terrible pay during apprenticeship. He had not much choice but to then change his career, which is definitely not a win-win situation here
Hello, i was part of the 1975 brain train, but alas returned 6 months later after a 21 day camping trip to Scandanvian & working for 10 days at Harrods during the July sales. NZ is so much richer for my return 😄
The brain drain is not simply because people here want to go traveling, its mainly driven by people wanting to earn better wages and have lower living costs..
I don’t understand how bringing older people into the country and putting our resources under constraint is a good thing. I know it was stated it would be a higher visa price but that’s shocking that this govt would do this. 😳
NZ should institute a "Come Back Home" initiative to attract Kiwis who left or are the children of Kiwis who left to encourage them to come back. A good number of those who left might be well motivated to come home, given the Climate Catastrophe on the way, along with deteriorating political realities. NZ also has to start paying proper pay for work done. Also, New Zealand is not at the "bottom of the world." It is at the top, or anywhere you want...the world is a globe with no top or bottom.
Hope they finally put primary and ece teacher's on the tier 1 list like they did with intermediate teachers Also landscapers should be added to the list
Something I should have done 31 years ago when I was on my working holiday. I wanted to migrate but had to go out of the country and apply. I ended up not applying and thing I still regret it. Being in an industry that is not skilled which is Travel and Tourism, it is difficult to do this.
The comments regarding money and not being able to afford to live in New Zealand bemuse me. I am a true blue Kiwi born and bread. Not overly educated but have made a wonderful living in this country and continue to do so on the retirement benefit. Thank you Brian and Liz for your wonderful vlog’s and yes the brain drain has always been with us as so aptly described. So to those people that knock New Zealand’s economy and make comments about money and cost of living, please have a serious rethink.
@@thebigaverage-jordanspeck9045 Thank you for that. New Zealanders that leave the country don't appreciate what they have or potentially could have if they work at it.
How is home ownership? Because the things that made it easy for you might not be so easy for the younger generation. Cost of living and real estate costs specifically vs income has been stagnant in many nations. If NZ can somehow control the cost of owning a home, they have a real chance of attracting disenfranchised aussies who are sick of fighting for a place to lay their heads.
