    I took my grade 10 over two decades ago and I don't think I know what an augmented triad is. shame on me. I guess a lot has changed in the requirements.
    and of all the exams I've been through, I don't rememeber an examiner smiling ever. EVER

    • @MrEcted
      @MrEcted 4 роки тому

      Really? I'm not trying to poo-poo you but I'm just a bass guitar player with zero in the way of training and I know that an augmented triad just means you raise the fifth. I'm almost 100% sure they would have covered that, it's super super basic.

    • @pinkegg3179
      @pinkegg3179 4 роки тому +7

      @@MrEcted I suppose guitar players are more chord based as that's how you define what to play. you guys do chord progressions. but piano players aren't wired that way. outside of I'd say baroque and classical periods, chord progression isn't how we...learn and feel a piece. we're more about bringing out and shaping the melody that's hidden within everything else that's going on.
      I can tell you the distances (interval) between the notes, but I cannot tell you what that chord is called. I would imagine woodwind players to be similar. just my guess. either that or I suck 😂

    • @MrEcted
      @MrEcted 4 роки тому +2

      @@pinkegg3179 Fair enough! I do have a biased perspective from my background, I'm sure there's a whole host of knowledge that a pianist would consider basic that has flown right over my head.

    At 0:29 she plays a major 3rd (and he incorrectly identifies it as a minor 3rd).
    At 0:35, she plays a tritone that's diatonically related to the previous interval.
    Play them side by side, they belong to the same key and resolve nicely into each other.

    Scales is really scary as there are so so so many in higher level, even harder than conservatory training, unbelievable ! Look at the Royal one in the UK, they have tried their best to revise the exam to a more approachable exam and delete all “useless” part. They have detail marking scheme and precise ear training instruction and sample so parents, students and teachers could follow.
