Finally an actor of Chinese origin, cause Aladdin is Chinese in the original story! Telly's gonna kill it!!
In the earliest version of the story, Aladdin is a native Chinese boy living on the streets of China. Arabic culture and language were imposed into it, making it more like an Arabized "China". In Disney's 1992 film version that we know now, the story was set in a fictional city called Agrabah. So for this stage production, seeing a Chinese actor play Aladdin makes me very happy.
Matt Tam You do know Aladdin is a an Arabic origins name. Plus the one who wrote Aladdin is a Chinese Muslim author so I can see why!

Rebecca Chia his voice is CRAZY. Not sure I'd say Aladdin, though, I'm sure he could swing it.
He's a wonderful singer. Besides being a Warbler on Glee, he's been on Broadway in Allegiance. He's also got a couple of albums. Check them out. You won't be disappointed. He'll be a great Aladdin. He looks the part and is a good singer/actor/dancer. And he's got a really good heart that comes through in all his performances.

and for people who only saw videos or the show of james as the genie, Adam as aladdin
rest assured, Telly and Major are just as good as the original cast, if not better, and thats hard for me to say
I had a different persepctive. I saw them both and in my opinion Adam hit certain notes waaaay better then Telly did. The new Jasmine is on the same boat and the old Jasmine. This new Genie I felt was alot more fun and energitic. Telly was too short on certain notes so it felt undermined but nonetheless it was a good show. I just feel Adam gave more emotion during certain points espcially Whole New World. Telly sounded as if he was talking instead of singing. Just a personal opinion

Saw Aladdin last night overall enjoyed it but Telly as Aladdin was rushing through his dialogue compared to the rest of the cast combined with his over exaggerated vibrato was making it a little hard for me to get into his rendition of Aladdin

Saw the show twice when it was Adam Jacobs once and Telly Leung, i'm sorry to say while Telly was good Adam was waaay better. Just a personal opinion. The new Genie (Major) is better than the old one (James) and the new Jasmine is on the same point with the old one voice wise.
