I know right..... how the hell are you going to find 5 guys that look so similar and as far as we know are not related.... I mean I know they have basjcally the same makeup, but still.
James Iglehart was my voice teacher in high school in East Palo Alto, CA. I got to see him perform in Ragtime well before his well-earned, well-deserved Tony. He was this awesome as a teacher and really had a profound impact on us young brown and black kids. One of the few black teachers we had.
He’s an amazing actor and guy. He’s also really sweet. He loves meeting and teaching people. He came to Foothill College one day just to say hi and see some theatre. He’s such an inspiration to so many. We need more teachers like him. My high school had some amazing and inspiring teachers.
They've GOTTA bring 10 Genies in for that! In addition to these guys, they could have Anthony Murphy and Korrie Lee Blossey from the tour, Trevor Dion Nicholas from the West End production, Gareth Jacobs who did Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, and... whoever else has played Genie at some point. Maybe from one of the international productions like Germany or Japan.
nicefanful I have been a fan of James since Memphis. I never been to New York but i saw a filmed performance of the show. I am jealous to those who saw him in Aladdin and Hamilton
Love how when Genie 2 first started singing the jasmine song people were laughing, only to be on their feet applauding not thirty seconds later at that amazing falsetto
I really love the fact there are 5 Genies on stage, they look similar and yet so different. The Genie is like the type of character to summon multiple versions of himself and starts a convo with them.
I'll be honest, I'm sure Will Smith will be good, but they can't say they didn't have the money to hire any of these guys because Mary Poppins Returns got LIN MANUEL MIRANDA.
That was unbelievable! I saw Major Attaway play Genie in Aladdin last week in Costa Mesa. He was the THE star of the show indeed. Happy 5 year anniversary to Aladdin on Broadway
I got to see him a few weeks ago in San Diego. He was indeed the star of the show. You know how whoever comes last is supposed to get the most claps? Well genie went second and he got more applause then Aladdin
i love for the fact that the 5 different casts of the genie, not a single one of them holds an ill will to each other and instead living happily ever after at each other's sides lol
For a character as iconic as Robin’s Genie, the casting directors, book writers, and performers all did a phenomenal job of capturing the spirt of the genie without copying Robin’s style. Can’t wait for the 10th anniversary reunion 💕
Lucky enough I got to see James as the Genie AND I just got to see him as Lafayette/Jefferson in Hamilton. Honestly one of the best parts of both shows.
Original Genie 1992 - "but never duplicated genie of the lamp" Genies in year 2019 - "Nah, we'll have five of them singing" Edit: Thanks for the likes, never had this many

I saw the show on Broadway last week, and Michael James Scott killed it as the Genie!! He was the big star! My first ever show and I hope not the last!

Happy sixth anniversary to my all time favorite musical Aladdin. I know u aren't performing right now, but I hope the cast crew and creatives alike r staying safe and still celebrating this occasion in their own way
Whoever had this idea should get a promotion
And a serious raise.
And the Keys to the city
MorTimer Play and the choreographer
MorTimer Play i’m honestly so glad i clicked because this was more than i expected
Someone saw the Les Miserables 25 anniversary when the 4 most notable Jean Val Jean's sang "Bring him Home" together
I love how they all look so similar and all seem like the same genie but are so different at the same time
That's because all black genies look the same.
thirtythreeflavors Someone’s trying to get roasted I see XD
I know right..... how the hell are you going to find 5 guys that look so similar and as far as we know are not related.... I mean I know they have basjcally the same makeup, but still.
Marika Kutaladze it’s not even that but all of them have a sorta bigger build except maybe 1. Honestly I just assumed they were clones or something
Sometimes I confuse Major and James.
Aladdin - but every character is played by the Genie. WE NEED THAT FOR REASONS 😂
I think it'll be funnier if the movie was an abridged version but all of the roles are played by the genie.
I whole heartedly agree
*YES*
TheTrueYami That would be like Louis in Ant Man or something
YES! REASONS!!! :D
A new spin off musical - 2 hours, 2 acts of Genies playing all characters.
Make 👏 it 👏 happen 👏
Alexis Mendoza it’s just all the genies with different costumes over theirs and some party city wigs
Alexis Mendoza yes!! like that time cher didi west side story xD
I don't think there's enough coffee to pull off such a cast!
Alex Mendoza And we call it “Genie: Behind the Lamp!”
Maybe that would be a riot!
I love how they’re basically one upping everyone else in the show
Vinny's clone?
Ryne Webster I’m more of his opposite
Cuz its Genie
They're the genie... It's just how the laws are
Very cool😊

Rose Kennedy What are you suggesting?
@Rose Kennedy I think him singing Proud of your Boy counts as one.
After the broadway soundtrack... yes! It's about time!
Can we talk about the falsetto on Genie number 2 holy moly that was amazing!!! I saw Michael when Aladdin was on tour in Kentucky and it was amazing!!
It was amazing! My daughter is a singer and his falsetto was better than hers! Lol
Tim Hartley Wow 😮
fhs2013cb The second Genie sings like the Stylistics. An old Motown group
The second Genie (Juwan) was the Genie we had when we saw Aladdin. He was halarious!
Agreed Juwan nailed that song. Especially when he hit the high F
I saw Aladdin on broadway and our Jeannie threw in a wakanda forever at one point and I nearly fell out of my seat
That's the best part about Genie, he can literally go off script and it won't be off place
Bro me too that’s crazy
Yo I saw them on tour and my genie said that too lmao!!
The Genie in London did that too 😂 I laughed so much I cried
Same, he also mentioned something about my cities home baseball team
3:35 "See you at the 10th anniversary, y'all!" Oh my God, 10 Genie's at the 10th anniversary. I don't think I could handle it!

Only 2 years to go now, let’s make it happen people!
One year to go!
We made it

Koff koff, Robin Williams
Mr Spider Guy williams is great but jmi is an icon
True, but robin can’t be beat.

You are trying to tell me that they couldn’t have picked any of these people for the live action
There's no business like show business :/
@@BeruBeruIce how is Will Smith a UA-camr? He shouldn't be Genie but what you said isn't true.

BroadwayLoverGirl of course they had money...they hired Will Smith. He’s expensive lol
Because screen acting and stage acting require a whole different set of skills these guys clearly don't currently exhibit.
I was at this show when this happened and it was literally the coolest thing ever... nobody expected it to happen but when it did I had TEARS
Awesome
It's a milestone with a five year anniversary. U gotta expect something big like this. Imagine what they'll do for the 10th anniversary
Any of them could have been Genie in the Live Action especially James Iglehart. Saw him on Broadway and was fantastic!!!
Well they chose Will so shut up
me too. lol
Francis Ronald Go But Will Smith was good enough
Yup! Don’t think will smith needed to be attach to the film in order to get audience to watch
Sadly, they needed some star power in the Genie role. It couldn't just be a relative unknown actor.
That was unbelievable! I saw Major Attaway play Genie in Aladdin last week in Costa Mesa. He was the THE star of the show indeed. Happy 5 year anniversary to Aladdin on Broadway
Major attaway got his starts at my local theatre!
I got to see him play coalhouse in ragtime way back in 2012!

I wish there were an official recording of Iglehart covering Proud of Your Boy. Chills.
Man I just want to hear him do a full rendition of Go The Distance
Not a full version but I know there's a bonus Medley track on Spotify of him singing it alone!
Love this! Really captures that vibe of the Genie duplicating himself into other genies for a musical number!
i love for the fact that the 5 different casts of the genie, not a single one of them holds an ill will to each other and instead living happily ever after at each other's sides lol
So many shiny black men and im living for it

Emily Ann omg I know I was sobbing like all night 😂😂😭😭
Eh, maybe. I saw Anastasia twice and if was on still I’d see it over Aladdin any day. Aladdin looks amazing but Anastasia was just beautiful!
I tried to get my mind off it by watching this... 😂
iam very sad to i cant believe it it was a grate show only 2 years deserved a longer run i only saw it once so sad
I SCREAMED when James started singing Proud of Your Boy! 🙌🏻
ddd8170 Me too considering how much that song annoyed me during the show. Apparently the wrong person was singing it.
I'm proud of James for singing this song extremely well
What a physically demanding role. Props.
