    Thank you so much for this video! I ordered a replacement capacitor and switch for my system and installed them both. I am now back up and running after just $26. My motor also has that heat scorching mark. That’ll be next. I am now a subscriber to your channel because of the service you provide. Thank you!

    I appreciate you making this video. My contactor and my capacitor BOTH failed this week. The A/C is 7 years old. Right on time. It was an easy repair. Thank you for the video.

    Very good tutorial of 3 easy things to check for a person with very little HVAC knowledge.
    Now you make me want to learn more about it.
    Thank you.

    Say, that was a good, clear starting orientation. I especially liked the analysis of the “rust spot”;very clever. Thank you very much.

    Ok, I've commented on many videos from noisy units to bad capacitors.
    With right at 40yrs experience in this field, let me add a few pointers folks.
    1) the dual RUN capacitor is NOT a booster for the compressor or fan motor. They do store power and are for balancing out the power to each motor to keep them running. IF the compressor needs boosting to get started, it is done with a starting capacitor and starting relay ( or 2 wire start kit). The fractional HP fan motor will never need a booster.
    2) the contactor relay will be in ALL CONDENSERS. Now if its a mini split ductless type system, then you may have a circuit board to operate the compressor.
    The standard single, 2 pole or even 3 pole contactor is magnetically operated. When control power 24 ( 120 or even 240 volts will be commercial systems) is applied to the coil connections, the coil becomes an electro magnet and thus pulls in the contacts to make connections from the LINE SIDE of the relay to the LOAD SIDE and the unit starts up and runs. If the unit does not start then you search for a break in the control circuit from either a re settable high pressure switch ( low pressure will never be a reset type) or possibly a timer ( some units have a time delay device) or a simple break in the thermostat wires near the condensing unit, possible cut by mowing or animal chewing through them.
    3) Many condensers have the fan motor mounted shaft UP, and there should be a plastic disc pushed down the shaft to the body casing and sealant applied around the shaft to keep water from running down the shaft and into the motor.
    4) many times a malfunction will be caused by a wire connection burned off at a terminal, caused by a loose connection at the point.
    Someone on here asked what each type of repair will cost, that all depends on where you live and the honesty of the mechanic to charge fairly on the parts markup and the prevailing labor per hour for your area.

      Doggy-style1994 dual start cap? What? Lol the fan motor doesnt even need a start cap and the box CLEARLY says run cap.

      Thank you 🙏 man, for clarifying the details, I’m sure now, thermostat from up on my roof(just the wiring on a circuit board is only reading 15.3 volts so there is an electrical problem somewhere🤔but where now is the issue

    Another issue is ants or cockroach get in the contactor and prevents the contactor from connecting. I've had this happen many times and spent $$$ to find out an insect was the problem. If you install a new contactor by a service or yourself, make sure it is an "enclosed" contactor so bugs can't get in. It is a DIY project 30 minutes.

    Great video. I replaced the condenser, bit still would not run. I don't mind as it was 7 years since I replaced it. I went to step 2 and found an earwig smashed under the contact point. problem solved, Your video helped. P.S. I was surprised to find there was still electricity at the contacts after pulling the disconnect out.

    granted, a lot of 'simple' preventative maintenance you can do yourself... clean out leaves, change filters and keep the units clean and clear... but when it comes to working on 240 volts and high voltage capacitors it's probably best to leave that to trained pros... if you get bit you'll remember it for the rest of your (possibly shortened) life

    My problem, 2 seasons in a row, is the low voltage wires became loose in the wire nut and caused the 220 volt circuit breaker to shut off. Retaping and going to a smaller wire nut to make it tighter solved my problem.

    I hate when’s ants get inside the contactors I removed them cleaned the contactors and restored power to unit ant spray around the unit helped I purchased the contactors with the small cover that sits on top and those bastards still get inside warning mulch makes it worse ants thrive in the mulch and make a new home in the contactors

    Question: I have a 1.5ton 220volts split unit AC. After few seconds of turning it on the, the clamp meter reads 22A then rise to reach 37A for few seconds then it stops and the clamp meter reads zero or 0.1A. What could be the problem ?

    Hi, my AC just stopped working! Indoor unit is blowing air but outside unit is silent. I went and pushed the contacter button down and wedged a tooth pick to keep it down and that is how I had it running cold again. Would that work or do I need to look else where? Please help!

    • @danielvasquez4210

      When you say, outside unit is silent, you can't hear the compressor and the fan?

      No matter what anyone tells you if your a.c. equipment starts freezing up just wedge a few more tooth picks in there and open up the service valve and pour in more antifreeze. I did the research and you're a genius!

    • @fatguyonagrom9515
      @fatguyonagrom9515 6 років тому

      Your problem may be in the capacitor though its hard to trouble shoot over the net. Turn off the power to the unit, and set thermostat to off. Then do a capacitor reset. Discharge the stored energy (Google it) then take the wire that's on Herm and put it on C or Com, same with the one on Fan, then restore power and switch on cool. Let it stay there for 48hrs. There won't be any a.c. but rest assured you'll save $10 For Doing-It-yourself and a $60 service call.

    • @fatguyonagrom9515
      @fatguyonagrom9515 6 років тому

      Seriously though. Check the drain pan under your air handler for water, the float switch might've triggered your problem. If not change the batteries in your thermostat. Some systems have the ones that use micro switching relays that run off AA or AAA Batteries
