The Magic Flute: Act 1: Be not afraid: Rita Shane, Benita Valente; Robert Baustian: Santa Fe: 8/8/68

I sang 1st spirit in 1968 and 2nd Spirit in 1969 in Santa Fe. What a cast it was: Rita Shane, Benita Valente, Patricia Wise, Evelyn Mandac, Barbra Shuttleworth, Jean Kraft, Suart Burrows, Ragnar Ulfung, Douglas Perry, Gary Glaze, Donald Gramm, Peter Harrowerr, Richard Best, directed by Bliss Hebert, costumes by Willa Kim, conducted by Robert Baustian. Shane's entrance (August 8, 1968) was on the bow on a ship-like structure, 8 globes down her front, pancaked white makeup with Kiss features, huge headdress with quiet clouds and wings the width of the back of the stage. Rising on the main elevator, then going downstage. She was strapped to the structure holding the giant wings, singing the entire aria immobile.
