C7 Corvette: Uniden R7 - How Not To Install A Mirror Tap

- Well here's your chance to make fun of me.. This mirror tap install didn't go as I wanted, learn from my failures. Time for another exciting project with my favorite car of all time. I've been needing to install a radar detector for a while now and I'm finally getting to it. I ordered a Uniden R7 to install in the corvette along with the Blendmount that I received from Blendmount. I want to do a mirror tap but I didn't buy the Corvette specific mirror tap and tried to use some of my spares, sometimes things don't go according to plan. This is your chance to roast me because we failed pretty hard at this. The next video I try and redeem myself with a hardwire installation.

I’m so sorry Matt but I laughed out loud when the detector didn’t turn on after you just finished buttoning it all up.
My dad was watching a youtube video last night about nice garages and was like "come watch this, this guy's garage is incredible!!!" And immediately I go "Is it Matt from Obsessed Garage?" before I even saw any of the video, and of course it was you!
Matt’s garage is definitely cool and he has nice toys. But i’ve seen far better garages lol. And also i think of his as a shop rather than a garage.

LMAO props for actually uploading this video. We all have days like this. I'm not sure if it helps, but on my c5 Z06 the fuse box to hardwire is in the passenger side footwell behind a panel under the floor mat. I was able to easily run a cable to there under the passenger side A pillar

Well, win some lose some. That didn’t go according to plan but one of your previous videos convinced me to get an R7 and Blend Mount for my M3 and I love it. 👍 Also, Vortex Radar is great. I never would have got that thing set up right without his videos so thanks for showing this stuff Matt.
Hahaha! The most honest mirror tap install attempt...I had the same problem with the connectors breaking. I've received another mirror tap, but haven't and most likely will attempt again. Great video.

I haven't. That car doesn't really interest me.
I did my Silverado using a "Radar Mount" brand mirror tap which comes with 2 pin sizes. I removed the mirror first which made it easier. Whole thing took less than 15 minutes. Hardest thing was finding the connector pinout on line to ID power and ground.
You sound exactly like me when I did my C7. I had the proper kit, and I broke the red and black, smallest taps. I ended up taking the plug partially apart. I ended up partially pushing the pins out, from the front, and I was able to put the wires from the mirror, and the plug, almost on top of each other, and slide them back into the hole, and it went well. Still took the better part of an hour to figure it out.
I normally have 4 or 5 of these kits in the cabinet, but I used them all. If I had the right darn stuff, this would have been a 15 minute deal. Oh well...makes it more entertaining.
Obsessed Garage it does make for better content. And for the people that absolutely don’t want to mirrortap it, it’s perfect. Because I think this would be one of the only hard wire videos. I watched a few mirrortap videos, that hardwire video is for those people, so it works.
I want to put one of these in my G37S, but seeing even you have trouble doing it makes me think I should prooooooobably pay someone else to install it.
Stone S he only had issues installing it because he using a wire tap connect that’s the wrong size.
Stone S I installed my blend mount and wire tap in 15 minutes . just get the right kit . I feel like he would quit talking crap about the car the car wouldn’t f*&k with him. Lol

Need to start using an electrical meter to find the correct wires. Great stab at it though.

It worked, he broke the plastic piece, and then it didn't work?
I went through the same thing on my C7, broke the tap and had to buy a new one
I use butt connectors on my car stereo and they work totally fine. I don't see a reason to solder.
