Another brilliant video Jerry , love the interaction with Bob lols , i've found a few lead soldiers myself down Prestwick beach this year , aye takes you back to you childhood ..... keep the videos coming .
I used to have desert battles with my little plastic soldiers when we used to holiday in Wales during my youth. I would make all kinds of fortifications and heap devastation upon the little grey Jerry (no offence Jerry that's what we called the grey ones) limbs and heads got removed and there were even occasional flame thrower attacks. Tommy always won because I controlled both armies. Nice times, thank you for bringing those memories back to me.
Jerry, have you watched ( I truly believe you will have) The Detectorists series ? One of my favourite shows and probably why your channel popped up on my feed. Glad it did 👍…..ROMAN. 😉
No Jerry thank you for sharing your adventures and your banter, it’s a joy to watch. Must get myself a detector and get oot there. I’m in Angus, Pictish territory. And who knows possibly ROMAN 😉 but many many centuries of history beneath this Scottish soil. 👍
The wire thing with the fabric end was for unblocking stuck jobbies mate . . . . . . maybe, I think. . . . . . Or perhaps one of those Roman arse hygiene implements used in communal Roman toilets . Just a little imagination and you can almost hear them . . . . "After you with the hygiene implement dear Maximus Excrementus" . . . "Ah, I'm afraid you'll have to wait your turn, those two chaps at the end are sharing it next." . . . . "Oh in that case "Boy!", "yes you with the long hair!" . . . .💩 😳 ... 🤣🤣😂
You said your detector was telling you not to dig, but you're going to dig everything regardless. You say you'd go home thinking what might have been. I'm not sure this will serve you best. You knew what it was, you dug it, and it was what you knew it was. ..., I get it though, learning the machine etc, but part of it is learning to trust it, at least most of the time, as we'll all dig some trash so long as we're out detecting. Another way of perceiving it, as opposed to thinking you might have missed something, is that if you ignore the trash, that you know is going to be trash, you'll end up digging more quality targets in any given time in the field, hence increasing your odds significantly of going away with a higher number of desirable targets. Instead of worrying that you might have missed something, you'd more likely end up feeling more confident in your detecting ability, and, you've got the permissions, you can always go back and dig the trash up, once you run out of better signals, so it's not as if you have anything to lose in building up trust and confidence in yourself and the detector. I'm no pro though, and not trying to tell you I know better mate, I've only been detecting for about 6 months, and it's just the way I'm trying to go about it. I'm not digging anywhere near as much iron junk as I was, and my decent finds are increasing. I even found my first hammered last weekend, a wee Edw II penny. That certainly gave my confidence a boost, such a tiny slither of silver at a good depth, on land previously detected. My oldest find yet too at somewhere between 1307-1327. It was more of a buzz than even one of those mains powered magic wands . . . . as far as I can tell from what others have told me, of course, and one you guys'll be having before too long, I'm sure ✊ The hammered coin buzz that is, and not the magic wand 😝😲 I really don't think you'd look back much if you start being more selective, by ignoring the very obvious stuff, but as I said, it's not going anywhere. I am loving your videos just the way they are though, you and Eddie make a great combination 💯, but I'd love to see you both keep the same style/sense of humour, but increase your good finds too 🙏 . . . . and don't worry, you'll still be able to be the daft detectorist 😉
@martinsanders5418 Thanks for this mate. The coins will coke and we are getting to know our machines more by the day. You're welcome to come and join us one day and teach me what to listen out for!! Any advice is always taken on board and appreciated
@@Daftdetectorist Sorry, I wasn't implying that I was in a position to teach you much, I haven't been at it long enough for that. I was just trying to point out that you'd already read the machine in that it was telling you not to dig it, but you dug it anyway. ...... I get it, of course, and didn't meaning to be critical, I meant it as encouragement, to risk being more confident in your reading of the machine. Basically, I was trying to say, if you try trusting your judgement a bit more on what's junk (you read it bang on), especially as you get to know the land etc, you'll spend less time digging junk, and therefore more of your time will be spent searching and digging better targets. This should increase your odds of finding more desirable finds. Also, that you really can afford to try trusting your judgement more, without any losing anything here. You have the permission, you can afford to experiment. If you give it a go, and say you've tried it for half a dozen days detecting, and it hasn't helped, and you think you've made a mistake, no problem, you can adjust, or revert to what you're doing now, and go back and dig those less likely targets anyway, nothing lost at all. But, if it worked, and you increased the amount of good targets you dig, and your good finds increased, it could be a substantial gain for you. Nothing to lose, but much to gain is a real possibility. We'll never not dig some junk, but the percentage can drop significantly if you eliminate some of the obvious. You read it absolutely correctly, you just didn't trust yourself enough to leave it. I assure you that I couldn't shown you how to read your machine better there, and nor could someone vastly more experienced, you nailed it yourself, I was just trying to encourage you to have a go at trusting yourself more🙏. Having your own permission is an opportunity to surf the learning curve 😉
@@Daftdetectorist Oh and thanks for the invite, I'd be up for it, and it'd be great fun I'm sure, but I'm way down in the midlands, it's winter, and use a motorbike for transport 🥶 I have plans for next year though, as I've been thinking lately that it's probably time I became a van man again 😉
