John "Lucky" Luckadoo, the last remaining member of the 100th, has talked about being kicked from the copilot position to the tail gunner position because a commanding officer took his place. And he talks about having absolutely no training firing machine guns and having it jammed. And when he was asked again to move to that position he refused so he had 3 fewer missions than the rest of his crew so he completed his tour a couple of weeks after the rest of the crew

If you want to read up on things from a navigators perspective, Harry Crosby wrote a book called A Wing and a Prayer. The dome in the top of the nose was so that they could shoot sextant sightings if they needed to.

I don't think what You say about Egan taking the gun from the Bombardier is accurate. You see Fortress B-17 in the version we see in the series (F) was equipped in its nose with 3 guns. Those 3 were to protect front quarters. Those 3 were used by bombardier and navigator. Egan took one of those (starboard one)so the bombardier could focus on head -on attacks with front gun, and Crosby at the same time could use the port one.

Speaking about officers taking over gun positions and I the scene they are talking about, I agree that it wasn’t realistic. However, in the planes where they were flying with a command pilot in the co-pilot seat (squadron or group commander) they would then move the copilot to the tail gunner position so that he could report the status of the formation to the command pilot. The actual tail gunner wouldn’t fly that mission. In the first episode the guy that frostbite his hands in the tail was the copilot.
Also, yes the aerial gunners were highly trained in the weapons they are firing and how to compute leads and distances with the then ring and bead sights.

I can sit back and enjoy this without having to know all of the military aspects so I can enjoy it.
As far as the actors…to me they’re believable enough to enjoy & get into this story.

The papers eaten by radiooperator "orders" as the pilot called (not sure but these were probably frequencies - different for each mission) were printed on rice paper.

lol I’m new to cons on his own podcast and I’m realizing he’s the WSD of ZBT. no wonder they argue all the time.

I’ve met a ton of WW2 guys and it’s funny that they joked about the same shit that we did in GWOT. I feel like the writers for this show haven’t spend anytime around actually military members, let alone real people.

I feel like the pacing is off, Episode count doesn’t seem like enough especially when you compare to Band/Pacific/Generation.
