Your video raises valid points of areas that could be improved upon, but there are inaccuracies regarding the complete facts about the B-1, its updates, and testing, which happened to be the most visible rc jet being tested in the public spotlight. since your information is solely sourced from RCG, Despite being informed of inaccuracies, you chose to continue with the video for ratings. While your videos are generally high quality, this one presents one-sided information, hopefully raising questions on what you’re really trying to accomplish since you say the jet is amazing. The Turbines RC pitch is humorous, especially after BH denied an affiliation attempt by you, but it now seems like you gravitated towards them with a vendetta, they fell for your pitch. Heres some Clarification for the viewers. BH, not Turbines RC, suggested addition and creation of brackets for the kits to assist in potential repairs of wing sweep attachments caused by extremely bad landings, non-flying incidents like wings being hit during transport or being kicked while in the pits, and the largest concern, improper insulation/overtightening of hardware, all of which are not manufacturing flaws. Why do I say all of these situations one may ask? Because these are the exact situations being presented as warrantee claims. You all know who you are. Jon, You suggest, and use Motion RC as a prime example of announcing a flaw and resolving it. Yet, they're not perfect either 🤫 but an NDA prevents the truth. Ill just say F-18 or the current issue of servos jumping center and uncontrolled jittering. But wait you’re also now friends with motion rc even though you used to talk trash on them too. Someone else mentioned that on the motion post with you on it. I guess affiliations is how to get you to be nice. Now to correct your misinformation, upon the first possibility of a manufacturing flaw being suggested at the wing sweep attach point (pic of paint possibly in a crack or void in the plastic), BH made a public announcement immediately to have customers inspect an area of the wing before flying the aircraft, this resulted in only one customer contact us for support, this particular contacts issue was determined he over-torqued the screw and broke the brass nut loose. With this only contact how could it be a flaw if nobody contacted us based upon our pre-inspection request? several months without a claim went by so we removed the public announcement because Xfly was inspecting prior to them being packaged. Trying to say we are hiding a defect is false and another attempt to smear BH. The brackets are not pre-installed due to their intended post-crash/incident repair use, created several months before the initial released jet we’re completed. This bracket creation was because one of our team pilots flew an prototype B-1 at Top Gun with a dead battery instead of the fill battery he intended to use, and had to land short of the runway, causing his wing attach points to break. We required a resolution to fix them without having to replace wings, and the bracket was created through communication with xfly. (Before turbines RC even had a jet)The brackets were never intended to be pre-installed attempts at preventing the wings from breaking, as we had not experienced any of them breaking with normal flying ops or testing just during a crash. However, when people saw the brackets were available they decided to add them as a precautionary installation item, which is a great idea if they so choose to do. The fact that the info used to base your video was from RCG complaints and nothing directly from BH or Xfly is appalling; we all know that RCG is a place to rant and complain to try and collect followers to support the injustice that is said to have happened, fitting your video's theme. You could have easily contacted us to verify any of the claims but choose to not contact us which is shady reporting. So let’s get this straight. You have not had a wing sweep issue, all of your facts are other peoples facts, you have not seen a B-1 crash in person, you have not seen a wing sweep fail in person, You have not seen a B-1 wing sweep broken in person and you never contacted us as to verify that there is an issue or isn’t an issue? No, you're just another RCG warrior trying to get back at BH for not loving you and your channel. Your facts are all someone else’s situations that we probably addressed or resolved their concern. These so called facts may or may not be a different story than what they informed us of. Now to address your gear getting jammed, its obvious your gear was getting gummed up from the crap shot of a runway you're using. This is also not a manufacturing flaw but wear and tear from flying on a makeshift runway and then complaining about damaging your gear. The tight fit is intended to keep the jet from swaying all over the place like the FW B-2, where you can't keep it straight no matter how much you try. If extra slop was added into the gear area then you would just complain that it was too sloppy so no way to win this one. However I seem to have missed the reviews on all the other brands out there with gear issues like sheer pins or mounts breaking loose, loose grub screws or e-clips coming off? But I guess they will be next in line for the smiting well if they also aren’t affiliated with you. I assume. Before you released this video, you should have verified you were 100% sure that your situations mentioned were completely true. Well, I’m here to tell you that you are wrong in the majority of your content. Just because it’s written in the RCG doesn’t mean the situation is what happened there’s always two sides to a story. Which this is a perfect , The crash example in your video where you see the jet in the vehicle was countered with the customer providing us with a slow-motion video detailing a misjudged flight path where the pilot commanded the airplane into his first wing sweep configuration, Then, immediately upon the wings finally reaching max wing sweep, ended in an unavoidable collision with trees. If it was a manufacturing flaw we would have given him a new plane. However it was clearly not this example also had nothing to do with wing brackets because the wings operated correctly. You claim that we don’t care about the customers and us providing quality products to them but you’re failing to understand because you have no clue is that we have continuous conversations with X-fly and all of our brands in improving their products based upon any and all customer issues and we go out on a limb to correct any issues. The reality of the hobby is this, there are bad companies but there are also bad customers that lie so they don’t have to pay for their mistakes. This is echoed from many of my Friends that work CS for other rc companies, looked upon as the best of the best. Remember 99% of all crashes are pilot error and why you film everything in HD to make your case for a claim at any company. At BH we have no regrets in the decisions of claims that were presented. We appreciate our customers and by keeping claims honest is how we keep cost as low as possible for everyone.
Nothing is stopping Banana Hobby from participating on RC Groups or other community-driven forums and providing their side of the story. It's been largely crickets since neither Solt or Lamb provide any further replies to the relevant threads. We're a voice for the community. We're not journalists and are not required to source "both sides of a story". Especially if we don't work for you or aren't affiliated with you - and spent our own money to promote a product that you sell. With regard to Turbines, we just reached out on Instagram and asked if they'd work with us. They agreed. Not much of a vendetta there - most companies will work with a channel our size by politely asking. That's how we've established all of our affiliate arrangements. MotionRC had similar issues with customer service in the past. They committed to resolving them. They didn't come on UA-cam and leave an angry 10 paragraph rant accusing us of having ulterior motives. With regard to our runway, the B-1 is the only jet out of something like 30 we've flown on it that had any issues with the gear. Given the sample size, one jet having an issue while many others don't says a lot more about the B-1's gear than it does about the quality of the runway. If it can't handle ugly pavement, how is it supposed to handle other types of pavement and/or grass? This just comes off like you're trying to deny a warranty request nobody made. This kind of response is not a good look. Take it from someone who has worked in several companies in a PR role - when you see negative feedback, take it and improve in the area that the complaint is focused in. Don't push back and try to have a "mic drop" moment. It makes your company look petulant. There are legitimate criticisms of Banana Hobby in the community - and we gave you constructive feedback instead of just tearing your company down. Other channels wouldn't have given any praise for the model whatsoever and would have directly ripped into the people who work at BH. We know you guys can be better than this. Please put the ego aside and take our feedback and your community's feedback and make your next release as problem-free as possible. Spend less time on bizarre social media strategies and more time on testing these planes thoroughly. We want to see you succeed - we don't want to see any company in radio controlled aviation fail.
Difference is, instead of firing back, Motion-RC reached out and made it right and promised to improve after Two-Brothers RC made the community’s voice heard.
well this response just proves everything he said in the video, not only that but reinforces it massively and makes you seem far far shadier than anything he said. You guys are complete fucking clowns with no professionalism at all, imagine posting an incoherent rage rant on a youtube video because they pointed out how shitty your company treats customers... and thats how you try to prove otherwise? by acting like a 12 year old girl? will be happy to spread this one around for everyone in the RC community to see.
Boy oh boy are ya'll punching the air or rather swinging and missing at Two bros by further proving their point that ya'll are not the trustworthy brand people should support, quite embarrassing to write that on behalf of a company, especially in a public forum full of your potential customers.
Can't dig your hole any deeper due to the shovel being worn out. Here ya go ........ I did the Google search for everyone here. www.google.com/search?q=reviews+of+banana+hobby&rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA1086CA1087&oq=reviews&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBggAEEUYOzIGCAAQRRg7MgYIARAAGAMyDAgCEEUYORixAxiABDIHCAMQABiABDIGCAQQABgDMgYIBRBFGEEyBggGEEUYQTIGCAcQRRhB0gEINTg1N2owajeoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#ip=1 That "Ralph, Solt and Lamb" circus didn't help the Bone in any way whatsoever and neither did their "groupies" on the net. They turned me off this plane far more than any reported "issues" with this model.
I appreciate your videos and thorough testing you do. It's great info. But I have to say, I am truly amazed by the condition of the runway surface you fly off. I get that you might have no other place to fly, at least not conveniently, but I would never fly a jet model with such (relatively) small and intricate scale landing gear of of such a surface. All the fields I fly my EDFs off of are pretty much free of grit, gravel, sand or dirt and grass, and I just wouldn't fly an EDF if I couldn't count on that. Also, the shock load on the gear and it's mounts from hitting cracks in the pavement or other things like ridges of grass growing in the pavement is quite high. To me, the quality of the landing gear systems on these EDFs is actually proven because of their performance and reliability shown when flying off of surfaces like the one you fly off of. I also enjoy watching your flight test videos because you fly like I do and it makes it great to see you put the planes through their paces and answer all the questions I might have about how they perform. Thank you so much for that!
So my wife kept hearing me say how the B1 Bomber is my favorite AirForce Jet. Unbelievably, she decided to buy me this Jet for a birthday present. I’m stoked out of my mind. I think with the reinforcement and bypassing the gyro this will be one heck of an aircraft! I just might be hitting up the discord channel soon for the first time to get additional set up advice
Hey Jon after contacting Banana Hobby( I could not believe they picked up the phone ) about the wing reinforcement kit , they agreed to send me the kit free of charge of course after a $5.00 shipping fee seems fair . Thank you for being the voice of us RC modelers .
Happy to help, Robert! Like we told BH in their post, we're the voice of this community and it would be irresponsible of us to not speak up when there's a chance to make the hobby better for everyone. BH stepping up and making it right is the only moral choice.
That might be the most beautiful RC EDF ever. Your mods and tuning are well beyond my capability but it's nice that you are sharing your valuable knowledge. Great review!
Appreciate your commentary corporate integrity and customer loyalty. The industrial manufacturing Co I have been with for over 25 years, dominates in our markets due to our commitment to customer satisfaction.
That's really good to hear and that goes a long way. Because nowadays it seems like customer satisfaction is a thing of the past. And every consumer should go out of their way to deal with companies such as yours. You always have a better experience and end up saving money in the long run , even if it costs more in the short term.
Thanks for letting me know about the wing mech being week, now i will have to check mine. Mine is for sure an early release. I have about 50+ flights on mine and love it, love the way it flys and it for sure brings a crowd to watch it fly and people just love to see it. I use the SMC 6200 in mine all the way back and get a solid 4 minutes of flight. Great video. I use the AR8360T in mine with my IX14 and my settings are very similar to yours. Flys so gracefully and love it with wings swept back. I haven't had a problem yet with the main wheels yet getting stuck but for sure will be lubing them now.
The gear issue you showed reminds me of my own issue with my X-Fly Alpha jet. After several flights, one of the MLG started to bind and got very stiff, preventing it from rotating 90 degrees during retraction and binding up. Only after removal, pulling the pieces apart and sanding the shaft that was meant to rotate in the housing did the gear regain normal behavior (I'd tried adding oil before removing it, but it failed to relax things enough to put things right). I believe the X-Fly tolerances are just too tight and with just some dust, there's not enough room for things to work (I fly off a "decent" paved runway... not dirt or grass). This is NOT to say the gear on the Alpha jet isn't good; it's EXCELLENT in it's robustness and form... actually seems over-built for the 80mm guy it's supporting! It's just that the tolerances are tight and has lead to issues. FYI
I checked my B1 for stress at the wing sweep and so far so good with no issues and checked the gear, no issues, 50+ flights on it. Love the way it flies
@@nomadrc6036 mine is in great shape with over 50 flights, I have no issues with mine at all, except the stickers do peal a bit at the corners and that's all
Fantastic video Jon! I very much appreciated your balanced and fair approach to the issues surrounding the initial batch of these models (the first three of which here in CONUS I actually featured on my channel), and your points about customer service being key. While the fact that these are mass produced foam models made in the PRC by low wage workers isn't lost on me with regards to quality concerns, the seller's responsibility to the greater RC community is really what sets them apart from their competitors. I really liked your fair assessment with regard to that as well, and even your words of encouragement to BH to get things right, and sort out their approach to customer service. Well done. Blue skies my friend!
Its amazing that in 2024 people think that a $679 should be perfect and that there should be over-the-top customer service. I've been out of the game for a while, but I've definitely spent that much just for servos on one wing for a big 3D airplane (3D even a thing anymore? hahah). My expectations for a PNP or ARF at that price point would be very low. Not to say that its okay to be low quality, but I haven't had anything that didn't need a little extra reinforcement or some sort of modification to be "right." Don't get me wrong, I think it is really cool that there are so many cool foamies now that you can just take out of the box and run. but these issues are the kind of thing that I would have just modded myself and not even flinched.
@@TwoBrosRC but that’s my point, $679 is cheap in this hobby. I think I had nearly $3k in the last plane I had that size. This cheap Chinese stuff has gotten a lotttttttt better but it’s still RC on the cheap. I would expect nothing more. You have to set the bar where it belongs. It’s a cheap product with cheap product problems. And by cheap I mean that it is cheap for what it is. Surely you understand that.
Some aircraft being more expensive doesn't justify having less expensive aircraft be riddled with issues. We're talking about $500+ - and companies like Freewing can consistently deliver a well-designed product for a similar price point or even less. When you make excuses for companies to treat customers poorly, they'll continue doing it.
I was just abot to assemble my B1, now I have ordered the wing bracet support kit (x2) and will use one of my top end gyros, THANK YOU for this video!!!
Jon you are the only guy on YT that will give advise on what not to do when tail sliding a B-1. Lol. Awesome! Good looking jet. Very well flown as usual. I loved your wife saying "Lower!"
The worst part of this is that BH's mismanagement of the B1 potentially also hurts XFLY's image in the model aviation space as well. If XFLY does their corrective action work to create reinforcements kits and implement them on the OEM side, it is BH's responsibility to provide first run customers with at least the knowledge and information that those kits even exists (and that's before we discuss BH making the consideration of giving them for free or not; and in my opinion they should if XFLY is implementing the change by default on their end). I'm lucky that I have Bitgo and Hobby King to go to for my XLFY models (which are actually great models in my opinion), but if BH was the only model-shop seller to sell XFLY models, then I'd rather go buy from Amazon.
First run planes usually aren't bad. The Timber SWS from HH is absolute perfection, for example. XFly is a relatively new manufacturer (though we suspect FMS makes their planes based on telltale signs) and probably should have put in a bit more engineering work - and better QC testing.
From my experience, my Xfly B1 and Eflite viper jet have the best most robust gear out of the box of all my planes. I've never had to fix or maintain the gear on them like all my freewing and other planes that I constantly have to fix or replace. My B1 and viper jet have over a 100 flights with zero gear issues. There my always go to flying planes because there always ready to fly. Yes I do agree with the stickers being a problem on the B1, but that's a minimal complaint. My b1 is a first version and have no issues with wing sweep mounts. Yes the B1 is a big bird, but for the money it's a very great jet and always brings smiles and attention from a crowd. Not trying to compare it to a freewing F14 but it's much better made for sure especially for the money with no mods needed to spend more money. My freewing f14 twin 80 is a money pit, like double the cost and still don't fly right when speed is at full with the new 2150kv power system, like the f14 airframe can't handle all the power and drops the left wing at full speed
12:00 when you mention air getting in the gap between the wing cover and fuselage, I take it you're referring to what would be the HML/OWF on the real plane, the Hinge Moment LImiter/Overwing Fairing. It's a mechanical section that clamps down to close the gap when the wings are extended. It's like an elongated clamshell with a relatively soft gasket to provide a sufficient seal. Of course this would be too complex and weighty on an RC plane. I assume this is what you're referring to, and then you said the canopy came off? It's too hard to see in the video, even at .5 speed. I'm still watching, so hopefully you'll go into more detail about this as the video progresses. Thanks for reviewing one of the most beautiful airframes ever created. I sometimes miss working on them, but then I remember South Dakota, hydraulic fluid, strong winds, and not making much money as an enlisted airman. Thanks for the content. I may have to get one of these at some point if/when stock is replenished.
We thought it was the canopy, but it ended up being a wing panel. Watch a little further and you'll see the cause and the effect. Thanks for your thoughts!
@TwoBrosRC I just finished the video an hour ago. That's wild that the piece ripped off like that. With the right tweaks from the factory, it could be top tier plane out of the box.
Like the honest review. Was frustrating being one of the first production run guys along with my friend and learned about the wing issue and then still having to pay for the "fix." Learned alot of maintenance tips and would have never thought to use my corrosionx for the gear. I found out that you need to use some rudder to get the beast to roll worth a damn with the wings swept back.
Rudder definitely helps, but what would have fixed it would have been differential stabilators - like the full scale. It's still ridiculous that the model doesn't have two elevator servos.
@@TwoBrosRC o for sure. If it was a issue of price point, i wouldve choosen to ditch that stupid and restricting gyro sytem in favor for elevon like control of the horizontals
Im an intermediate flyer, and once i saw this B1, oh, i want one. I try to research the best i can and made note of all the bad things and problems. I've learned the hard way, with many manufacturers, the instruction manuals are lacking, especiallu for a noob. Just like a car, i know not to buy the first year model. Customer service is big too. Calling for help, especially if youre a newbie, they can't, wont be bothered. So, who to buy this from? Have the issues been fixed? The wing brackets, plus the gyro? Or do you need to make sure to add those to the purchase? And make sure they send you the newest edf and not an old one, with all the problems. Now i see that you need to sequence a whole bunch of things. Wooosh. Do you need some special program to hookup to your laptop so it can talk to your rc and plane? Or can you do that on your RC? And what RC do you recommend for this beast. Thanks!!
Your call, we'd suggest buying it from whomever has the least expensive price+shipping combination. The sequence isn't *needed*, it's just there if you want to follow our setup guide. Otherwise you can stick (risk?) flying with the manual-recommended setup. For this plane, we tend to recommend Spektrum radios. The NX8 would be a solid choice with 20 channels: bit.ly/NX8Plus Hop on Discord via discord.gg/twobrosrc and feel free to ask for help!
Like all products it good to know all issues. Not happy with how you bash BananaHobby. They have stellar service and are the best to work with. You sound like you’re scorned but just my opinion like yours but I am sure you will find you are out numbered.
This isn't bashing. It's accurately reporting issues with a very expensive jet that the US distributor either minimizes or overlooks entirely. It's your call if you're OK with that. We're not.
Outnumbered? You must live under a rock. Go Google "Reviews of Banana Hobby" and see for yourself. Go ahead! I first dealt with Banana almost 15 years ago. For many, many years, they sold inferior product, had inferior customer service. Their products have come a long way but their CS? Not much has changed. I still buy from them from time to time, BUT I do so with the expectation of products that will need work, some, A LOT OF WORK. As for CS, I expect to be on my own. When this Bone was first intro'd, BH's CS/PR guy was in so far over his head, he was drowning. He had ZERO inter-personal skills and those refugees testers from Motion? BH had them so badly gagged, it was like sending a boxer into the ring with BOTH hands tied behind their backs. The B-1 was at the top of my wish list but after the terrible behavior of the BH reps (secretive, easily offended and cried to mama when they couldn't take it), not only did the Bone get to the bottom of my list, it got tossed off the list. You accused Jon of being "scorned". I accuse you of being a Banana shill. (Some sticks have TWO dirty ends.) 🤔
Every single plane I've gotten from banana hobby and hobby king has crashed due to the poor quality. I honestly wish they just made all their planes ARF's so they're cheaper and so I can just put electronics I trust in them
Awesome job!! Also, understood on your concerns with Banana Hobby; however, on my 6th flight of my first batch B1 only one wing retracted in flight and it nose dived. XFLY dismissed the malfunction, but BH stepped in and sent me a brand new plane. That type service made me a dedicated fan of their products.❤ Keep up the great work!
Happy to hear they made it right by you! That was unfortunately not the case for the first run buyers who were told they had to spend money to buy the "upgrade kit" for the wings that should have been sent to them directly like Motion sent upgraded servos for the MiG-29 first run buyers.
Glad you put an honest review out. To many of these you tube channels do what they are told and not 100% honest. Companies need to backup there products with proper customer service. Seems like that is a thing of the past.
Awesome review of the “Bone”. Love this plane. My first aerospace job in the mid 80’s was a mechanic for Rockwell on the B1B. Always loved this aircraft.
Wow if I did not see this video I would not have known about the wing reinforcements thanx for doing this video I have this bird I luv it I fly my B1 and B2 together I customed painted my b1 camo and it’s dope as hell so thanx again bro keepem coming…
What you don't like about it. It takes up your entire trunk in your impala. This sounds like a personal problem. Also the bigger the better, maybe cry less and stick to the facts that you pointed out very well. Great video. I'm buying one after seeing this video.
Not everyone can afford a huge vehicle, guy. It's important to know if it'll fit in a standard size sedan for those of us who aren't blessed with the ability to own multiple vehicles and talk down to fellow pilots who are less fortunate.
Wow man, you absolutely read me minds about the way BH operated this project. From the teasers a few months before the stock, to their on going updates about the containers, and their tutorials which obviously say “you must do this and that or you’re on your own” and of course not to forget that weird thing with the stock gyro that made some people to lose their money and their trust in gyros. Too bad. This seems like a really complicated engineering project, with good execution but failure (or pain points) in the release and support of it from BH. Turbines RC are great!! Thanks for another detailed and exceptional review ❤
We also work with Turbines-RC currently in a limited affiliate arrangement. We reached out to Banana Hobby last year to see if we could demo products for them, but were turned down. One of the rebuttals to this video might end up being "They wanted us to send them free stuff but then made this video after we said no" - but our rebuttal to that is that we wouldn't recommend a company who treats customers like this. Our reputation and integrity are far more important than a small percentage cut of the sales coming from the 3 airplanes we'd end up selling. Fortunately, the companies we do promote keep customer service in the forefront and that's why we continue working with them.
The way you have set up this plane is how it should have come from the factory. I had been considering buying one for a while now but it all seems too complicated.
I feel the same way about FMS, unfortunately they did not accept or rectify the issue. The ASW 17 has a fatal design flaw with its horizontal stabilizer.
Well to start off with I’ve been flying rc for 41 years. I was looking for a power glider and decided on the FMS ASW17. I had 3 flights on it and one of the wing locking pins broke, they are very brittle plastic. Ordered a new wing, transferred the parts and back to flying. 7th flight I got up to altitude turned the motor off and was just gliding around. I nosed it down to do a fly by ( not at any excessive speed or angle) and when I started to pull up the horizontal stabilizer slid forward instead of the elevator operating. Thus I lost all pitch control. The connection was too weak to hold it in place. There was no part that wasn’t broken. E mailed fms twice and after 3 weeks they e mailed me back and said to ( glue it back together) YEP! I’m pissed off!. So it averaged out to about 47$ a flight. The end, sorry for the rant.
Love the flights. Love the story. Love the honesty. I appreciate you telling the harsh tale, not in a rant. Just matter-of-fact style. What beaut in the air AND in the trunk (can't say that about everything in life😊) Hey, Jon. Where's the Cobra attempts, man??? 😂 Just havin fun. Love your channel. See ya next video 👍
Was just thinking about the stiffness of the gear dollys and was wandering if some of the stiffness could be to help with shock absorbing too but the get too stiff with grit. I would think you wouldn't want them completely free playing eather. needs to be some way to adjust for tension. I will have one once I find it in the second hand market.
Sounds like it needed a little more time to cook, but otherwise they pulled off a capable aircraft. I’m surprised there wasn’t an impression of it being underpowered. At least on paper twin 70s sounds underwhelming for the B-1, but it looks fine on video
Definitely wasn't feeling underpowered. People tend to use dodgy battery brands like "HRB" or "Zeee" in twin 70mm applications which don't hold up to the load. SMC HVs are the only battery we recommend for jets like this.
Absolutely 100% not - this is an expensive jet that requires a solid understanding of how jets fly. Save up for it and wait until you've got a lot of experience.
This was my first opportunity to watch your B-1 review. Very professionally done and informative. To me, just a long-time model builder and CFII, it seemed like the runway surface would contribute to the landing gear damage. That roughness in scale would tear apart a full size aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! We've flown quite a few aircraft off this surface, including over 20 different jets. None of them have suffered damage from it. The wheels get a bit torn up, but the planes themselves don't actually care. The runway isn't the issue. It's grit getting into a very technically complex component that has fine tolerances. No design thought was apparently given to build up of dust and dirt in a very tight spot. That's definitely a concern because it can happen to anyone, regardless of the runway quality. Dirt and dust exist everywhere.
I agree with you 100%. This has been a problem with horizon hobby too. This is now a multimillion-dollar company and paying salaries of very high and people. So they're prices are very high but they don't really care about customer service anymore.. You can't even actually call there and get anyone on the phone. My self along with others, have had several issues with them. And if you ever get someone from customer service, they're reading off a script they don't actually know anything about R. C.. And yes, seven hundred dollars for the B1 a large piece of foam, it should be perfect.
Horizon has confirmed that they're working on improving the support experience. With regard to $700 and perfection - perhaps not perfect, but definitely shouldn't be shipping with massive wing issues in the first run.
Yes, I agree. They should be just as focused on the product as they are about all or advertising and all the people they pay. Pay a little attention to the people who make those jobs possible ,us your consumers.
Does anyone know whatever happened to Bob Moore's large scale B-1? I watched his videos for years and then he pretty much disappeared. No idea what ever became of his model.
@@TwoBrosRC Sorry. It was from a number of years ago. I was really big into watching him build that thing. I'd say it was about 3x the size of the XFly B-1. Every time someone has something to do with a B-1, I think of him.
From what we could see, it was a lot of posts on social media - similar to what was done with the B-2 - basically summed up as "We have this cool jet and you don't." for months. Then it turned out that the jet had critical flaws at launch. Rather unfortunate.
Thanks for sharing! We don't feel it was harsh at all. There's way harsher hit pieces about specific companies posted on UA-cam in the radio control niche.
@@TwoBrosRC I believe that when companies either Motion, BH or FMS etc goes out on a limb with a new there application should be praised as it is there reputation & financial at risk. The arm chair Qb’s have not the risk and only the gains with such commentary pitting one vs the other. Yet I do appreciate the round about cleanup which followed thereafter. These companies take great risk financially invested to contribute greatly to the hobby and that should be highly noted as well. The risk after purchase is part of the hobby. Your videos are great and thank you for your dedication to bringing us great points of interest.
is it just an issue with bh. i only ask as i have a few x-fly jets that are outstanding quality and never had an issue in the slightest and ive been saving for this jet but im second guessing now.
The issues described in this vid are endemic to this jet only, though other XFly jets tend to be prone to gear issues related to tight tolerances in manufacturing. It's a good jet, it just needs some work. Definitely bypass the stock gyro.
Very informative video. Thanks for that ! 😃 I wish there weren’t so many add pop ups. I’m ok with a few adds through the course of a video but the add pop ups were very excessive in this one.
Having bought many of the Freewing fourth gen fighters, I’ll say that I’m jaded about buying another foam three minute jet. That being said; after watching the Jons’ go through this jet with a fine tooth comb, I’ve satisfactorily passed on this video to everyone that I know who was chomping at the bit to purchase $700.00 foam. To the brothers - much appreciation to the focus and dedication of effort that you put into this video and the aircraft itself. Keep on a sticky note above your radar screen; “All opinions are like A-holes. We all have one and swear that ours don’t stink!” Keep doing what you’re doing if like this video will be the manifestation of your continued delivery.
We don't normally have to dig into an airplane like this because most airplanes are good enough out of the box to be perfectly enjoyable. The planes Horizon or FMS send us are perfectly flyable most of the time. People generally have to go out of their way to bait views to complain about most BnF or PnP airframes. The Bone was a different story. Critical manufacturing flaws and the US distributor seeming to not care led to this video. If Banana had owned the problem and made it right by first time buyers, the tone of this video would be completely different. We'd even be praising them. It's not like other manufacturers and distributors don't have similar issues at times, evidenced by how Motion did right by the first-run MiG-29 pilots. Thanks!
Hi John. I just purchased a UMX timber X and I’m wondering (tryna get the most outa this) how did you set up the harrier flap mixing. Because I don’t have that left aileron on a umx plane. Any chance you may be able to walk me through this or something.
Setting up flaps should be in the manual for the plane. Once you do that, create a mix of elevator to the flap servo channel and put it on a switch you prefer, then adjust it so that the elevators being pulled cause both flaperons to move up.
Just when I finished a jumbo Lancer model. I wanted to get a R/C version and came across this video by chance. Damn glad I did. I was wondering if the swept wing in R/C version would have issues. This information came in dang handy. Thanks! And I shall check out, turbines rc as well. 😎 ✈️
Just the video I've been waiting for. Full of great information. Your video just sold me on the jet. No others have done that. So great work on that too. Thanks for your time and dedication into bringing us this needed content. 🙏
I’ve never flown an RC plane but I want to get into it badly. How long would it take for me to step up to the b1 You did. One show on the 70 mm F 16 how long would it take for me to get to it? Thank you and I will subscribe and follow.
Hey thank i’m getting ready to retire and I need a hobby 1700 mm p51 and the 90mm F4 phantom Thank you for all your help what do you thank about the Habu STS 70mm EDF smart jet
It’s got three steps on it but if I get on it and I stay on it and fly the shit out of it in about six months, I could step up to a better plane like those ones I was telling you again thank you for your help
No link needed. Look at the vid and see how it's placed, then drill into the wing with a small bit for each hole and screw in the reinforcements, then add the wing screw.
This video is old, but I'm wondering...when are you gonna show some love to Banana Hobby? They are making a big effort recently and have released some really cool stuff.
It's not that old, lol In terms of showing love, that's not our job. If BH improves their customer service consistently, then sure, we'll definitely talk about that. They did recently make the B-1 crash in this video right by the owner, so that's something we'll report on. That's the only data set we have at the moment. If they can consistently keep doing the right thing by their customers, then they'll have our support. But they're not owed it, nor is any other company.
@@TwoBrosRC They have a V2 B-1 now to make up for it, and it's discounted. Shows the power you have. But also the new AF model line, and their new 40mm series might be worth doing videos on. I would really like to see an in-depth review on their 105mm F-22....
Since August of 2020. That's the start of Jon's journey with hobby-grade model aviation. Before that, his primary experience was a gas plane at age 3 (his mom made... dubious choices) that exploded into a tree when it crashed, and a bunch of twin propeller RadioShack F-22s in the late 00s.
Fun fact: X-Fly is actually funded by previous product designers of FMS. Besides airplane, he also designed the EDFs. Thus all Xfly EDFs are slightly more powerful than FMS😂😂
You must have a very nice camera to get such quality video! Also, I appreciate your brutal honesty. I see this as necessary because we need more transparency in our hobby! Excellent reviews / demos / deep dives from you every time! A++ 10 / 10 :)
I have 15 EDFs... 1 Banana Mig 15... Broke the belly inlet fan vents ..Had to call to get a new one... Poor web page parts lists.. Banana could learn a thing or two from Motions pages.. Waited almost 60 days... Never again, deleted their site.....
I had the same issue with Banana Hobby with the Osprey they sold. It flew well for about 6 flights then decided to go crazy and fall out of the sky. :(
Wow! Once again another awesome video Jon, the setup guide at the end was excellent! With that cheat sheet for setting up the plane, I’m excited to get started on mine. Thank you very much and keep tearing up the sky! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
That's the hope. We don't want companies to fail, and we're not interested in putting out hit piece after hit piece directed at one particular company. BH in this case simply dropped the ball on multiple occasions and didn't make it right by their initial customers. The fact that this jet is still sold with a poorly designed integrated gyro is also not good at all. But if you want it - follow our setup. Because it does fly well with some minor mods - so in the end, it was almost worth the purchase price.
One thing I'd like to see is a comparison of Crow and normal flap aileron mixing on approach. From an aerodynamic perspective, I don't understand the point of Crow.
Full span flaps generates more lift and drag at lower angles of attack, making it useful for coming in slower while keeping the nose lower on approach. Crow creates aerodynamic washout at the wingtips, which can force stalls to begin at the wing root instead of stalling the entire wing, maintaining stability at lower speeds and maintaining aileron control at those speeds. In practice, we're not sure it's worth testing with this jet since it lands really well with normal flaps. Even full span flaps are really only useful for taking off quicker with this jet. Since the stabilators don't operate differentially (e.g. tailerons) having full span flaps enabled can create a significant stability problem on landing if you get into gusty winds.
What a beautiful plane tho! Thanks for making the feedback video. I'd never spend that on a foamy, but looking at those pot metal, weak cast hardware in the build makes me cringe! That was a big cause of all the early Carbon-Z line from eflight/horizon to fail!
That "Ralph, Solt and Lamb" circus didn't help the Bone in any way whatsoever and neither did their "groupies" on the net.
Please do, we'd love to see you there!
Hey Jon after contacting Banana Hobby( I could not believe they picked up the phone )
about the wing reinforcement kit , they agreed to send me the kit free of charge of course after a $5.00 shipping fee seems fair . Thank you for being the voice of us RC modelers .
Happy to help, Robert! Like we told BH in their post, we're the voice of this community and it would be irresponsible of us to not speak up when there's a chance to make the hobby better for everyone. BH stepping up and making it right is the only moral choice.
Incredible, dude this is so much fun to watch. I saw real ones ripping around Iraq and I was in Awe... thanks for buying this and sharing this!
That might be the most beautiful RC EDF ever. Your mods and tuning are well beyond my capability but it's nice that you are sharing your valuable knowledge. Great review!
Wow, thanks!
Seeing this, I'm starting to think XFly could actually make a great SR-71 at around the same size. What a beautiful plane the Lancer is!
Assuming it doesn't have the same issues this jet had in its first run, most definitely!
@@TwoBrosRC E-Flite’s version is inexplicable.
Definitely only lube them with something like CorrosionX. Any other lubricant will get nasty quick due to all the wheels throwing dirt at them.
@@nomadrc6036 mine is in great shape with over 50 flights, I have no issues with mine at all, except the stickers do peal a bit at the corners and that's all
I gave up on banana hobby years ago.
What do they have to do with the manufacturer that has clearly no exclusivity on distribution?

Should have never started
Thanks man! We're sure why BH chose to respond with such hostility, but we've allowed them to post their own thoughts on the story.
Yes it certainly is amazing that people expect to spend a lot of money and not be treated like an unpaid beta tester.
Finally flew mine no issues. Have been purchasing BH products for over 12 years. Always helped me out with issues.
Happy to hear it!
I was just abot to assemble my B1, now I have ordered the wing bracet support kit (x2) and will use one of my top end gyros, THANK YOU for this video!!!
Happy to help! Our AS3X gain values are in the vid too if you want a starting point to work with.
Jon you are the only guy on YT that will give advise on what not to do when tail sliding a B-1. Lol. Awesome! Good looking jet. Very well flown as usual. I loved your wife saying "Lower!"
Thanks man! Looking forward to seeing what you do with your buddy's B-1.
Great review we need more like it to improve the hobby, I think the worst bit is the B1 issues are minor compared to the F-14’s
Which F-14?
Totally understand you on that point. They actually tried to clap back and left a 10 paragraph reply that you might find interesting to read.
Exactly why I don't buy first run planes....unless it's extreme flught or skywing and I've seen the social media of rigorous testing they go thru
Happy to hear you didn't have any issues, but that's unfortunately not the case for other people.
The NX8 would be a solid choice with 20 channels: bit.ly/NX8Plus

I have been waiting for this video every since you announced that you bought it on discord! Excited!
Sorry about the wait! It took a full month to research and get the filming done.
I honestly wish they just made all their planes ARF's so they're cheaper and so I can just put electronics I trust in them
Some habits are hard to change for Banana Hobby
We wish every plane came in ARF form as an option so you could spec out the electronics entirely to your preferences.
@@TwoBrosRC The B1 is available as ARF and RxR
Was waiting for this since the post a few weeks ago!
Great to see some honesty in the RC industry bringing this issue to light.
Nice video. Could someone post the link to the re-enforcers for the wings?
It should be in the description.

You're very welcome!
I keep forgetting this jet exist. Thanks for the heads up should I decide to add one to the fleet.
@@TwoBrosRC keep it up! It’s very important for the community 💪🏻
As predicted, Banana popped in and made a comment regarding our attempt at making an affiliate arrangement like 9 months ago.
@@TwoBrosRC that's too bad they're focusing on the wrong things :(
Where did you set your CG? Everyone say not the book value, but I've seen 60-88 mm back from the leading edge.
No idea, it's been 6 months since this vid dropped. Roughly 10 to 20mm behind the marks would be a good guess.
Nice job on the demo video.
Great great video. But where can we get the wing bracket? Without buying another jet. Thx

The way you have set up this plane is how it should have come from the factory. I had been considering buying one for a while now but it all seems too complicated.
It's not too complicated - if you're willing to give it a shot, that is!
I feel the same way about FMS, unfortunately they did not accept or rectify the issue. The ASW 17 has a fatal design flaw with its horizontal stabilizer.
Can you tell us more about it? We have a direct line to them and can hopefully help improve it. Hop on Discord via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord and let us know.
Ouch, sorry to hear that! But thanks for the info!
Keep flying!
That's the plan.
Love the flights. Love the story. Love the honesty. I appreciate you telling the harsh tale, not in a rant. Just matter-of-fact style.
What beaut in the air AND in the trunk (can't say that about everything in life😊)
Hey, Jon. Where's the Cobra attempts, man??? 😂
Just havin fun. Love your channel.
See ya next video 👍
Thanks Al! It'll do a sort of half-ass cobra, but it's not much to look at.
@@TwoBrosRC
I'd say, for a bomber to do anything but fall out of the sky while even attempting a Cobra, is way better than half-ass 👍
There's no tension adjustments. They rotate freely due to the axle they hang off.
Great video. Love the looks of this plane with the afterburners. Very, cool.
Would it be good for beginners?, because i started the rc hobby not long ago and im still in the catagory with those little no control surfaces planes
I started with a volantex f-16
Absolutely 100% not - this is an expensive jet that requires a solid understanding of how jets fly. Save up for it and wait until you've got a lot of experience.
@@TwoBrosRC Thanks! I’ll be looking for more solid options 👍
Thanks for the info, That's why the Air Force and Navy walk the movement surfaces and flight decks for FOD.@@TwoBrosRC
FOD won't fit into the gear dollies. It's dirt and dust buildup. No amount of FOD walking will fix that. The gear tolerance is just too tight.
No idea who you're referencing.
@@TwoBrosRC Sorry. It was from a number of years ago. I was really big into watching him build that thing. I'd say it was about 3x the size of the XFly B-1. Every time someone has something to do with a B-1, I think of him.
Whats funny is there was months of "testing" with hundreds of flights from Jeremy and Justin and they never caught the obvious issues.
From what we could see, it was a lot of posts on social media - similar to what was done with the B-2 - basically summed up as "We have this cool jet and you don't." for months. Then it turned out that the jet had critical flaws at launch. Rather unfortunate.
And they've flown it several big events, too, with lots of eyes watching. Hmmmm.
it does the sabre dance with the wings swept thats fun
Great vid! Gratz!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@TwoBrosRC 😄
Commentary with negativity was unreasonably harsh, but overall tips are always welcomed.
I hope so thank you for replying back
??
What a landing!!
is it just an issue with bh. i only ask as i have a few x-fly jets that are outstanding quality and never had an issue in the slightest and ive been saving for this jet but im second guessing now.
The issues described in this vid are endemic to this jet only, though other XFly jets tend to be prone to gear issues related to tight tolerances in manufacturing. It's a good jet, it just needs some work. Definitely bypass the stock gyro.
@@TwoBrosRC thanks for the info and advice jon. love your vids and love the voice you give the community. thanks again for replying
Very informative video. Thanks for that ! 😃 I wish there weren’t so many add pop ups. I’m ok with a few adds through the course of a video but the add pop ups were very excessive in this one.
Ads are how we make most of our income on YT. Thank you for having the patience to sit through them!
Yes! I enjoy stunts within reason, im glad you can relate lol!
Thanks!
hopefully with excperience from f-14 and b1b they can evolve to the ultimate challege of an EDF Mig-23!!!!

Ohhh that makes sense. I tried this once already but I had the flap to elevator not elevator to flap. Thanks for the help!
And I’m happy to report that I got it working! This is going to make Harrier flying so much more fun
Just when I finished a jumbo Lancer model. I wanted to get a R/C version and came across this video by chance. Damn glad I did. I was wondering if the swept wing in R/C version would have issues. This information came in dang handy. Thanks! And I shall check out, turbines rc as well. 😎 ✈️

They don't have to be, though. We're hoping this video spurs them to improve customer service. We want every company to succeed.
Looks like a great flying jet minus the wing mount hardware issues. So, would WD-40 work on the landing gear?
Probably would, but WD-40 most likely attracts dirt while CorrosionX appears to repel it.

That hasn't been our experience with it yet.
This video is old, but I'm wondering...when are you gonna show some love to Banana Hobby? They are making a big effort recently and have released some really cool stuff.
It's not that old, lol
In terms of showing love, that's not our job.

@@TwoBrosRC How long have you guys been flying RC?
Since August of 2020. That's the start of Jon's journey with hobby-grade model aviation. Before that, his primary experience was a gas plane at age 3 (his mom made... dubious choices) that exploded into a tree when it crashed, and a bunch of twin propeller RadioShack F-22s in the late 00s.

Nice review. Are you going to do turbine conversion on your EDF'S ( Viper 90 or F22) in the future?
Possibly, but not anytime soon. We've got bills to pay and turbines generally aren't compatible with that.
Fun fact: X-Fly is actually funded by previous product designers of FMS. Besides airplane, he also designed the EDFs. Thus all Xfly EDFs are slightly more powerful than FMS😂😂
Seems like XFly uses FMS to manufacture for them. There's FMS hallmarks throughout the jet.

I had the same issue with Banana Hobby with the Osprey they sold. It flew well for about 6 flights then decided to go crazy and fall out of the sky. :(
So sorry to hear that!
Concord anyone?
Nah.
Wow! Once again another awesome video Jon, the setup guide at the end was excellent! With that cheat sheet for setting up the plane, I’m excited to get started on mine. Thank you very much and keep tearing up the sky! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
I have always said in the RC hobby early adoption equals pain too. Best to wait about 6 to 12 months to iron out the "undocumented features" first.
Isn’t the b1 your profile picture
Nope.
Hope that lights a fire. Well said!
The first guy that you showed his post on rc groups is a member at my club lol
Near, man! Did he ever get another Bone?

What a beautiful plane tho! Thanks for making the feedback video. I'd never spend that on a foamy, but looking at those pot metal, weak cast hardware in the build makes me cringe! That was a big cause of all the early Carbon-Z line from eflight/horizon to fail!
One damned beautiful airplane
Maybe its stall gentleness is the result of those small canard find on the nose.
Probably not. It's more likely a consequence of a lifting body.
