This was fun to hear what worked and didn’t work for your family. I always end up taking on too many resources. Some end up winners and some not so much. Thanks so much for sharing!! Looking forward to watching more.

I just discovered fishtank learning but there's not much about it on UA-cam that I've been able to find, so I'm glad to see you're really excited about it!

Thanks for sharing. I have a tendency to plan too much too. But as long as you can accept that you might not get to everything and you can always bump things to next week (which I'm still working on 😁), it all works out in the end.

I recently discovered your channel and love watching your videos! I have a young student, that I think might be gifted as well and really enjoy your curriculum suggestions. Can you do a video on the Michael Clay Thompson program? I am thinking of doing it with Blossom and Root. My son loves the literature and projects that go with the books.

In case you didn’t see yet, Beast Academy has level one online available now!! I just signed my daughter up. I know you said your daughter is wanting to do it as well.

I also struggle with my local homeschool group for the same reasons. We live quite rurally, so getting to another group is really challenging. It’s a bummer, for sure

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope we both find something that works!

I would be interested in a flip through of the Question Mark curriculum. Looks interesting and I had not heard of it!

I’d love to know some of the resources you used for Van Gogh! We are going to the Beyond Van Gogh immersive experience exhibit in November and I’ve been piecing together a Van Gogh unit to do leading up to that

Could you do an in-depth video breaking down your must-haves and skips for Around the World? We are planning on using BYL 0 this coming year and adding books from Torchlight's book list; I'd love to know which spines and book selections you have loved and recommend!

I can totally do this, I will say that I didn't pick a ton of their spines. I checked them out through the library and looked through them and then picked my own based on what I liked but I will add this video to the list!

Such a great video! It was very helpful to hear what worked for you all and what didn't. Would you mind sharing what standardized testing you used? I was hoping to get that for my kids too and wasn't sure which one to use. Thank you for your videos!

Being that close to DC you should totally be able to find a secular group to connect with. I hope you find a good fit.

Very true, at this point driving anxiety and time commitment wise it doesn't seem worth it. and thanks! I appreciate it.

Is there a campfire kids troop near you? They have coed clubs where kids do all sorts of cool projects. They are secular and pride themselves on being an inviting scouting type group. Maybe you could find your people there and your kiddos could meet friends with similar vibes.

Thanks for this! I'm trying to decide between ckla and mct for language arts. Do you have thoughts between the two?

    Question
What was your thoughts on the Night Zookeeper? Do you feel that it helped your son? Also how much time was he spending on it, to receive those results. I watched your video on it at the start of the year but missed your review at end of year.

So I still really like night zookeeper, however we are really trying to simplify this upcoming year so we aren't going to continue it much in the new school year. But that is mostly a timing issue. Our other curriculum just ended up being more important. Sorry I forgot to include it in this video!

I don’t know if it would work for your kiddos but we use the speech to text a lot for retellings. We use IEW so I don’t know how different that is to Jot it Down. Every week they retell the source text using their iPad and then go back and insert punctuation and fix any mistakes. Could be easier than you writing it?

Thank you so much for this! Honestly this never would have occurred to me and now I feel like writing will be much more manageable this year.

How do you adapt to different states homeschooling laws? We are looking at relocating but our state is AMAZING and doesn’t require anything from us. But the state we want to move to is super strict.

So I don't think I am an expert by any means but I am just trying to record more (we have portfolio requirements) and I just put that and work samples in a folder every week or so. Also I printed out at the beginning of the year a list of all of the curriculum that they are using and stuck that in the folder. Also I put my homeschool forms from the school district and any standardized tests (optional) in that folder. I hope that helps.

Do your children choose your units? How does that conversation work? Thanks

They do for some like we will be doing comic books, and I just asked them what they wanted to learn this year. The Van Gogh I picked because of the Van Gogh experience that was coming to my area and the River of Voices, I used because we moved to an area rich in history and I already was using the curriculum. I just used it as a unit study instead of weekly.
