Thanks for taking the time to film your videos! I know it can be busy with homeschooling your kids, moving, enjoying what your community has to offer, etc - but all your videos have been very helpful to me :)

Yes please. I would love a video on standardized tests♡

You are interpreting the results of your standardized testing incorrectly. They are tricky! If your son took the k-2 MAP test it doesn’t ask 11th grade math questions, so it couldn’t tell you he is at that level. The grade equivalency category is such a confusing title. It simply means if an average 11th grader took the same k-2 MAP test as your son, they would have scored the same thing. Which is very different than meaning he is working at an 11th grade, typical algebra 2 or precal, level. I highly suggest that you bump him up to the 2-5 test if you suspect he is gifted. I homeschool my gifted kids and had my 7 year old take the 2-5 test where he landed 99th percentile in all areas, which made sense because he is finishing up AoPS pre algebra (already completed beast academy) and reads at a very high level. I also had my just turned 10 year old take the 6+ grade test and he too landed 99th percentile, which also made sense because he has been taking college math courses since he was 8 years old. Look at the percentile vs GE and definitely bump up if you suspect giftedness! We are military too! Have a great school year!

Thank you! I was aware it meant that but I should have been more clear. I have seemed to confuse several people. I realize he doesn't know as much as an 11th grader and I know the questions were at his grade level. I just still thought that it seemed high since he just finished first grade.
Is there a reason that you suggest bumping up the level? I thought about it when I scheduled the test but I decided against it because I wanted to see where he was at for his grade level. Thank you for your help! Your kids sound amazing!

@@LoveLearningEveryday I would suggest bumping up because you believe they are gifted and have mentioned that for math and reading he is beyond a 2nd grade level. The k-2 test won’t ask questions as high as the 2-5 test (and then clearly the 6+ test will ask all the way through high school). If you bump him up to ask questions more around what you have described his academic level to be it will give you better insight on strengths and weaknesses vs a test that you know he is clearly beyond and could ceiling out on. It’s always nice to get as much useful info as we can when we test our kids and testing gifted kids is always so tricky. 🙂 I’ve found the best way (outside of actual gifted testing with a licensed psychologist which was by far the most useful info/testing we’ve done) is to use something like the NWEA MAP above their age/grade level and more at what I think their academic level is. Since mine basically maxed out the 6+ test I’m not even planning on using it again for my oldest and will use the 6+ test for my 7 year old if we are still in a state that requires testing. We are hoping to PCS back to a state that doesn’t require it but you know the military! You don’t know if your orders will change until you are actually settled in. 🤣

@@LoveLearningEveryday no problem! We loved that puzzle you have on your table. They used a video of my youngest son playing with it on their website and Amazon for many years as their promo video. My boys also loved prodigy bell music when they were younger! We bought into it back when they were toddlers and it first came out. It was so fun! We use and read a lot of the same books/curriculum/educational toys. I appreciate your unedited laid back style of videos! I hope you continue with that style because not many people use it. I also appreciate your book haul videos and normally end up with one or two we haven’t read to add to my youngest son’s reading library or for myself based off your reviews of books that you read. 🙂 📚 We love book outlet and have had really bad luck with quality from thrift books lately, which is disappointing. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

The African American History book is a good one. I like the layout, graphics and information but like you, I didn't use it much as I wanted to. It's not going anywhere though. It's a nicely done. History Smashers are fun.

My kids aren’t typical in the reading world either. They find phonics odd and definitely do not enjoy spelling. I think its because they learned to read by just memorizing words and have to think of a word broken down into different forms is just foreign to them.

Hey! I have tried to use the link for book outlet and this is the message I'm getting "We're sorry, this coupon cannot be unlocked at this time. It looks like this referral has been flagged by our security system due to similarities detected between the referral accounts.
