I am almost 50....have listened to a TON of music....This album is by far my favorite of all time...I just can't explain it why but it draws me back to this day....I feel (when listening) in my own little heaven,,,
I am very, very late to the Tears for Fears party. I really only came to appreciate them this year, 2022, with the release of The Tipping Point album. I was so impressed with that CD that I began looking at their back catalog. I recently bought Elemental and Tomcats Screaming Outside, both of which are brilliant. I'm glad I found this documentary since it gives me a window into Roland and his band mates back in 1993. I cannot help being struck by how Roland's appearance has changed since then. The Roland Orzabal of today, has a white beard and long white hair, giving him a Gandalf-like appearance, which is fitting, considering he is something of a creative wizard and a magical human being. But still, for some weird reason, I kind of miss the young Roland of Elemental days. But, no matter. Either younger or older, Roland Orzabal is a great songwriter, singer, musician and performer. Check out one of the videos of him singing Rivers of Mercy in concert. He's still got it - that immense gift of talent, charisma and creativity.
Judy Smith-Randle Are you referring to Roland Orzabal? Because he is Definitely still on the planet, He is just missing from the current Music community internationally & U.S. Which creates a Serious Deficit for all of us True Music conniseurs.🎶🎶🎶🎶🚴
I am very glad to see that so many already are happy to finally see this rare documentary. Any comments on it are deeply appreciated. As for «Elemental», it's among the very best TFF-album, a sonic treat with beautiful lyrics, melodies and production. It was very inspiring for me in the early 90s.
Great documentary! I really like Roland. This man's talent knows no bounds. He's gifted... .blessed from the heavens. Plus he's intelligent, articulate, funny and handsome. His sexiness is hypnotic too. He can pull you in FIRST with his eyes and then the rest of him. Wow!! I need a man like that in my life!👍
Excellent interview... I really like listening to Roland's stories. (and I love his speaking voice) Yep I'm a fan of Roland :).. Oh & he's also VERY sexy.
+Terry Porter hello, you could explain to me what he says in the video? I am from another country and do not understand their language, and I'm using the google translator.
This made me fall into tears! Such a talented person, Roland is. He touched so many lives and still does. Wish I can get to know him personally...even if he thinks he is a "bastard". i would like to be his friend.
he is a 'messenger' like many other musicians. with the lyrics they try to 'wake people up' but with not much success as many just react/pay atention to the sound/rythm ...we are living organisms and big part of ours is made up of water... ....and as we have learnt thanks to the net, water can take different shape/patterns depending of the sound made...
A brilliant album. Four guys in a studio - that’s how an organic sounding album is made. I had no idea that ‘Woman in Chains’ (from Sowing The Seeds) was an insight into the marriage of Roland’s parents. It’s such a sad and beautiful song, rolled into one. It’s also coincidence that Tears For Fears recorded a song (‘Break it Down Again’) about how much influence the media has on our unnecessary buying habits - Duran Duran followed a similar vein in the same year with their song ‘Too Much Information’ from The Wedding Album. I really enjoyed watching this promo about an album that remains one of my favourites ever from the 90’s. It’s Ele..Mental.
My story: Elemental flipped me from a TFF appreciator to a TFF super-fan. It all occurred by happenstance. Prior, I knew their hits and like them well enough in a hum-along kinda way. But I was never invested. Then in '93 I was hit with a flu unlike any illness I'd known before. I was KO'ed for a week plus. At some point Elemental showed up in my mailbox compliments of the Columbia House record & tape Club (8 CDs for a penny!). I never would have bought it on my own, I was too delirious to care. I listened to that dang CD on repeat for god knows how long. And it grew on me in a BIG way. Eventually going on to become my fave Tears release to date even after going on to "discover" their back catalog such as Big Chair, etc.
great interview of how the music was made, and what Rolands vision was... he is brilliant... and his voice is sexy, i could listen all day to Roland talking...
I've only ever seen bits of this, but this is just so so, awesome, Roland you take me to places I've never been before, and you are magical in your song and your words, such a beautiful man. We ( all on here) praise you and love you for all you are!!
@JOHNBERGE007: Amazing upload.... Not only does it showcase Roland's creative genius and sensitivity, but some of those vocals I heard during the recording sessions were gorgeous! Thank you for sharing such a special clip.
So Roland is a Perfectionist, welcome aboard! it took me years to conclude Perfection is in the eye of the Beholder. and for the 2 who "thumbed down" this documentary, what's the problem? this is as honest as it gets
I simply Love ELementaL It is ABSOLUTE GENIUS! one of the most brilliant albums cover to cover. I can't tell how many times I've played this album and still do. It aged very well considering just how long ago it was recorded. Roland is such a brilliant writer and lyricist.

I love the hell out of this album. Music is a huge memory trigger for me (as I'm sure most others here too) this takes me back to late summer, early fall 1993. Interesting time of my life, mid 20's, 1 year into a job change and going well, relationship challenges (women, ugh!), about 7 months into a new living environment, 100% for the better (house rental). I play this album every August and it takes me right back to that time. I love it!
@JOHNBERGE007 I am the one to be thankfull here :-) I don't mind the red blur at all. Am just grateful you have shared it with us. Can't thank you enough :-)
@Butterflyneverlands: It's great to have good friends! I wish the red blurs weren't there, but it's an 17 year old VHS-tape, so these things happen. What's most important is that we «get the message out there»! It's cool to see how quiet and calm Roland was.
From "Songs from the Big Chair" to "Elemental" [& many other productions], Tears for Fears remains distinguished in the secular music world. The music is alluring... drawing us to listen time and again. Through the years, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith thrilled us with "Year of the Knife", "The Working Hour", "Head over Heels", "The Seeds of Love", and so much more! I love listening to the music of Tears for Fears! I may never have the answer to this question in this life, but I do wonder whether Roland and Curt are saved. What I mean is, do they have a personal relationship with God's Son, the one who was born to die for the sins of mankind - that one is Jesus Christ. The journey with God begins when one recognizes that we are all sinners, beginning with Adam & Eve in Genesis 1-3. We, like sheep, have all gone astray - Isaiah 53:6 KJV. To snatch us from the fire of torment forever (see Zechariah 3:1-2) God sent His only Son, Jesus, to be born of a virgin (Mary) and die for all the sins of the world. John 3:16. Now, we can live with Him forever, by faith in His Son, Jesus. Heaven is the exact opposite of hell. In heaven, life will be better than anyone on earth can imagine. Just think, dwelling in the presence of God Almighty for eternity. Who could ask for more than this? My prayer for these two men, and all their talented music associates, is that if they have not experienced the revelation of God Himself in their lives, to call on Jesus now and start the journey of eternal light, love, and joy in the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 10:13 cannot be clearer - it says "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Roland and Curt, I don't know if you'll ever read this, but I hope to see you both and all your music associates and friends in heaven. God will take anyone, with any past, no matter who they are or what they've done, into His loving arms. I am reminded of the lyrics ...... "Put your loving arms around" - Elemental ...... that's what the Father does with us. He puts His loving arms around us and never lets us go. May God richly bless you and may the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. 2 Thes. 3:16 Your friend, Kelley (from the United States of America).
They are definitely not Christian unfortunately. It’s apparent from interviews and videos. He constantly does the “666” with his hands and the seeds of love video had the all seeing eye and some other symbols. He even mentions “Neptune one of the gods of music” at the beginning of this. His wife died of alcoholism and he mentioned they both drank a bottle and a half of wine a night etc. He also mentions being involved in astrology as well.
It makes sense that the album was recorded in a home studio, because there are so many layers and textures that must have taken ages to put together. It takes a lot of listens to really appreciate how much is going on.

So that's what his speaking voice sounds like, he could read poetry with that voice
Roland is so hot, from his voice, to his intelligence, to his instrument playing, and his lyrics. I hope I can find a guy just like him one day.
Orzabal has fast become one of my favorite guitar players. He’s got a masterful variety of tones.
Few players can move from jazz to prog rock to adult contemporary with their playing, and Roland can.
Uh huh
Possibly my favourite 12 minutes of video ever
Roland Orzabal, Alan Griffiths and Tim Palmer - what a TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am very glad to see that so many already are happy to finally see this rare documentary. Any comments on it are deeply appreciated. As for «Elemental», it's among the very best TFF-album, a sonic treat with beautiful lyrics, melodies and production. It was very inspiring for me in the early 90s.

A very solid and great sounding record. One of my TFF favourites along with Everybody Loves A Happy Ending.

I love you Roland thank you for saving my life with your music
Yes, he did "save" me as well!
I can’t believe it’s been 25 years. I love this album.
