The Great Lakes are the most fascinating bodies of water in the world. You all got to do the Port Huron Float Trip. Have a D.D. ready. Best Beaches you can find in America, Put In bay on lake Erie is Key West North and cheaper. These lakes have surf and no sharks,There are bays and coves on all 5 where you have the clearest water in the world. Pictured Rocks,Michigan north shore on Lake Superior is a kayak dream.
That's great... But A) this is not a great lake in the video (read other comments) B) you only named two great lakes, a standard Michigan biased C) do you just to comment for attention? Or what is your notice. Because clearly you don't know what you are talking about but have the need to comment. My reason? I hate commenters like you. Know it all but clearly embellishing and/or lying... So go on.. I'll wait for your response... Some heroes don't wear capes
I love the lakes, and Ive been lucky enough to have seen them all, and regularly boat on Michigan, Huron, Erie and St. Clair. I love the state of Michigan, and I put up with the winters, just to be around the lakes and connecting waters once boating/fishing season starts. I was bummed that they took lake St. Clair off the list of the great lakes, but I guess it doesnt really matter, its still there lol.
Ehh Im from the Midwest so I see that Great Lakes way to often I prefer swimming in the Atlantic Ocean because the ocean is far more blue and clearer (depending on where u are)
@@ChandrickOts On different lakes you can see fish swimming over 40 feet down. Hi! Is it possible for me to share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Thanks in advance for your reply. Kind regards.
What are these orange booms as seen at 4:30 (raised) at the right hand, 7:26 (raises beyond the bridge) at the right hand and then one at 14:00 and also at 19:15 (both raised) on the left hand of the canal? What´s the purpose of those?
They're sensor booms, to make sure the ship is clear of the opening lock gates. There's a cable that runs along the boom like a bowstring, and if it contacts the ship anywhere then the ship has to move clear of the gates.
The lakes upriver are at a much higher elevation than the surface of the ocean, so locks are used to permit ships to travel up to them as they can't normally navigate the natural falls and rapids
Is the boat rubbing that right rail as it comes into the dock ? And this has got to have bow thrusters ? Yes . But wow you have to have nerves of steal to operate one these beast .
The only locks in the Great Lakes sector of the GREAT LAKES ST LAWRENCE SEAWAY SYSTEM is the Soo Locks. The St Lawrence Seaway sector extends from St Lambert QC up through the Welland Canal to mid-Lake Erie. 7 locks to Welland are St. Lambert, Cote-Ste-Catharine, Lower Beauharnois, Upper Beauharnois, Snell (US) & Eisenhower (AKA IKE - US) and then Iroquois Lock. The Welland Canal and then much further up is the Soo Locks :-) Hope this helps. Joanne Crack at The Prescott Anchor. I have steered 730 foot freighters through these locks and the Welland Canal, many times. lol.. Actually, it's really the St. Lawrence Seaway. System.. :-)
They used to tie up the ships with ropes to hold it a safe distance from the walls of the lock, but the yellow devices hold it in place nowadays. Less manpower needed.
This wasn't at the Soo, the St. Mary's only has one set of locks and they're much larger than these. based on the geography I'd guess it's the St Lawrence river, but I haven't seen enough of it to know exactly where.
WHERE OOH WHERE IS THIS ❓😲 SO , SO FASCINATING. WHAT'S THE LOCATION ❓🤔 Sad there's a spectators 😃 to watch this 👍🏻🙏🏻😲 Ok seen the observation deck 👍🏻 What directions were they going ❓ Been to Welland Canal 👍🏻 🇨🇦
laplantski, called rubbing, how it is done, sip and locks are built that way, work that way. You try driving something 8000 tom 1000 feet long ,52 feet wide down that skinny slot.
Amazing what can be built with out all the environmental BS .structures like these could never be built now says. Conservation is great but things have gotten out of hand.

Thank you for the fascinating ride. What a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.
I like this. Kept wanting a GPS map tracker in one bottom corner to follow course.

Which ship is this? What about the one she passed?
Super cool video. Thank you for sharing it.
What this video needs is a lofi hip hop beat. Must be fun to be on that boat!
High energy blues or jazz music. That would be intense but gun to go on her at least one trip out.

@@rallymodeller Ok! Thank you for your answer.
At the beginning, to the right is the old Olympic rowing basin, and to the right of that is the F1 Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
What is the purpose of "locks? I see the boat rising but I do not understand

Taking the beast down that tiny slot, hard to do.
Set at playback speed 2 looks cool.
Those sailors running fore and aft on the mid-deck cat walk are getting great exercise, eh?
Thanks, very interesting.
What does it cost to go through a set of locks?
Depends on the system and your cargo. U.S. locks are controlled by the Corp of Engineers so ships can lock through for free.
The is cool.
Is the boat rubbing that right rail as it comes into the dock ? And this has got to have bow thrusters ? Yes . But wow you have to have nerves of steal to operate one these beast .
That ship is fast.
AWESOME !

ExcessMean Recentering the vessel? That would make sence.
I just remember seeing a video about the Panama Canal once, and the captains would use that wall to guide the front of the ship into the locks.
