@@ImonthecomputerI love and praise Jesus Christ but why to use his name over 'every - thing'?!
Why could you not respond kindly to the beautiful expression of loss from a fellow human ?!
This is an earnest question, I am truly interest to understand why Jesus Christ's name must always be used as a jinx repeller or a 'joker'?!

This raga helped me get through a night of sadness and personal termoil. It reminded me of the sublime, the eternal and the vastness of life. What is one night of hardship for one person when the entirety of existance is outside your door to be witnessed. To be grateful to have a chance to see moments in time; never to be repeated and never to be experienced by another living thing makes the lows worth while. Get out of your own head and look outwards to the beauty in the fabric of life.

When I first heard Bara Ustad (Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar) play his veena, in 1981 in Varanasi, I thought it was THE music. Forty years after I still think the same and experience the same bliss while listening to our beloved and respected Ustad. The guru never dies...

Zia Mohiuddin Dagar is simply the best Rudr Veena player from the Dagar family. This Yaman is a supreme example of his mastery. This is Dhrupad at its best as an exemplar. This is a performance that will transcend the ages, and should be preserved for all time. His other performances should be brought together in one place as a supreme musical archive.

I live in the states and I feel this music is Godly for lack of a better word. It penetrates thru the soul, so amazing. This tradition should never die. India is the treasurer of the world wether they know it or not. Their culture is very rich in all aspects. No country on the planet can compare in over all human value like India in my opinion. Wish the world would seriously take a look at the Sages that have walked this Earth and all their wisdom. If the people really new they would be wonder struck. Namaste! ❤️

@George Makedon Indian classical music is devotional offering to Hindu deities. Muslims clearly and obviously do not devote their performance to Hindu deities. Historically they played it for the sensual pleasures of the Mughal rulers and their harem, and now for a livelihood. Notes may be the same, but the interpretation of its purpose isn't Hindu in nature. I consider it Islamic.

My wife and I were lucky enough to see Z. Dagar when he was visiting artist at the University of Washington in the late 70's-early 80's in the Ethnomusicology Dept. The free concerts in the small auditorium are precious memories. We had no concept of the cultural heritage involved but it was intuitively obvious that this was something very special. Time seemed to slow as standing waves of sound permeated the room. We happened to be in a museum-palace in Udiapur and there was an exhibit with a veena and a printout story about the Dagar family as court musicians. What a coincidence.

The life of traditional North Indian music before 1948 was quite different. It was supported and nurtured by wealthy families from aristocratic heritages with live in musicians and their families, where ancient musical traditions were past down generation to generation. This heritage is sacred and to be cherished. 🙏🙏🙏

I see Indian classical music as nothing less than the pinnacle of humankind's artistic endeavor. It should be celebrated as such and carried forwards as a flaming torch of what we are capable of as a species and as individuals; as a measure of the depth of the human soul. All of life is contained within it.

In depth, simplicity and swara- concentration this Alap and Jod in Iman surpasses all other vast and complex alap renditions of Ravishankar and Imarat Hussain Khan (surbahar) that I have heard so far, or at any rate, by any instrumentalist of Indian classical music like Annapurna Devi or Mustaq Ali Khan who has adhered to the veenkar style and manner of playing their instruments.
It is a dream-like journey to eternity on soft waves of sculptured sound.

It hasn't always been absent in Western classical. In fact it played a large role until the late 19th century. Bach, Mozart and Beethoven were described as incredible improvisers who amazed audiences with the complexity of their improvisations. Beethoven regularly took part in so-called piano duels where two pianists improvised for a while and the audience decided who won. The famous first movement of the Moonlight Sonata is an improvisation that he wrote down afterwards. As classical music became more and more complex harmonically and as composers started to be less involved in the actual performances, improvisation became less common. Liszt was probably the last great composer who improvised publicly. In some avantgarde music of the 20th century (Stockhausen for example) performers are encouraged to improvise again but it's rare.

@@hansmahr8627 It is an ever returning story backed by extensive literature that 'western classical' also knew improvisation. And Indian music has often been compared to jazz, a family of music that has an important element of improvisation. However, it is a fallacy to think that all improvisation is alike. Improvising within a raga is something very different from improvising within a theme.

Hey! I would like to introduce you to a person who transformed me and gave me meaning in life: Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. With Him, all things make sense. The death that scared me so much, today doesn't scares me anymore, because I know that His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for all my sins, giving me eternal life. Eternal life is not just for me, it is for everyone who believes in Him, for He died for everyone, including you. This love wants to give a wonderful meaning to your life too. Jesus is our source of peace. I invite you to go to Him, it will be the best decision of your life. Download the Bible on your cellphone and read it, you will find light to your life.❤️
      But he was pierced
      because of our transgressions,
      was crushed because of
      of our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace
was upon him, and by his wounds
      we were healed.
      Isaiah 53:5
The prophet Isaiah who was historically born before Jesus prophesied of His coming!

Gives a glimpse into our musical heritage . But alas , it's a heritage that is on the verge of disappearing as today's Genext is into a diffrent kind of music that so kitsch . Only few such recordings of the Dagar family , instrumental or vocal , remain as a reminder of our tradition .

I think even animals will be mesmerised by this Yaman. But we are there altercating viciously over our religious bends. This is our planet! So much for our love of classical music.

infinite silence on one side; the unvarying drone on the other. the melody waves in and out of one and then the other. that is what makes it so deeply meditative - like the kundalini between the ida and the pingala.
