    As a Djiboutian
    Since our independence on 27 June 1977 the Horn of Africa was already in turbulence due to the conflict that was happening like the Eritrean War of Independence (1961-1991), Ogaden War (1977-78), Ethiopian Civil War (1974-1991), Somali Civil War (1978-now), Eritrean-Ethiopian War (1998-2000) and our own Civil War (1991-1994) and also other battles/wars happening now. Djibouti accommodated migrants and refugees with the help of UN and WFP because of wars and famine. The French Forces remained present in Djibouti do to a provisional protocol of June 1977 laying down the conditions for the stationing of French forces, constituting a defense agreement because of the unstability of the region. There are two main linguistic and ethnic groups are the Somalis and Afars. Although most Djiboutians are Somali-speaking, national identity is fairly cohesive, being rooted in a common historical background.

    China also uses the Belt and Road initiative (e.g. Harbour and railline) as a way to get more leverege in countries. When payments can't be made for the expensive construction work, China often get's to lease them for several decades which gives the easy access to strategic infastructure and a monopoly on trade within a different country to project their own interests

    Why is Somalia only highlighted as Somaliland? And they're unstable???? I thought Somaliland is just the "good part" of the Horn of Africa compares to Somalia itself

    What if the horn of Africa was turned into a NO-MAN LANDS ZONE for every country to excersise their military might, and Djibouti was the starting point.

    • @minamuse3965
      @minamuse3965 6 місяців тому +3

      That will never happen. Had a been west africa yes that would probably work. But this is the horn we’re talking about. Them ppl don’t like to be ruled by outsiders. They didn’t resist colonisation for nothing. They would rather die than let that happen. Don’t be fuel by their current conflicts amongst each other. All it takes is for an outside power to attack them for them to suddenly unite.

      Djbouti is led by a dictator regime of ethnic somali which marginalizes Ethnic Afars who are now leading insurgency plus Djibouti is a tiny nation neighboring a large landlocked one which wants access to sea by annexation of ports
      So those bases are mostly seen As protectors against internal and External threats than only economic reasons

    This sounds like it should be good for Djibouti, but i rather doubt that it really is. Where is all that foreign money going when it arrives? Is it being used to develop infrastructure, the economy, health, nutrition? Or, is it simply corrupting the government.

    U.S, France, Italy and Japan gave Djibouti money and got military bases, China was the only country willing to invest in the country and build it grounds up, this is why many African countries are drifting towards China and abandoning the west
