- Roland has always wanted to jam a 2 stroke street motor into one of his race bikes. Thanks to Born Free 7, he got to make that happen!
Powered by a 1974 vintage Yamaha RD 400 motor wedged into a 1997 TZ 250 chassis the bike promised to be interesting. Sourcing parts from the shelves of Team Roberts Grand Prix race bikes as well as Roland’s own stock pile of TZ 250 GP bits the machine’s racing heritage grew into a bike that balanced the custom world with that of GP racing. Fast, incredibly light and good handling the RDTZ is a blast from the past and a look into the future of what custom bikes can be. All fab and build were done by Roland and the team at RSD including Aaron Boss and Scotty Diminick.

Guys, this has everything going for it in terms of the bike, videography etc. You fail completely on featuring a 2 stroke bike that is meant to be ridden hard and fast featuring the sound of that lovely engine. It is a cool song but I came here for the 2 stroke. Braaaaaaaap!

I wish Roland would do some build vlogs on his bikes, this one would of been a must watch being a 2T guy myself. Last time i see any of his work documented in video was on Biker Build off series.

This bike was never properly showcased. Awesome build, a lot of build up on IG and then there was no pay-off in the end. There’s no good videos of this motorcycle anywhere.

Nice bike, someone likes their drill press. I had an RD Daytona, RDs are great bikes. They do lack the fear of death factor that my 75 H2 has though.
Then you're not riding it properly, a friend of mine has an H2, but he keeps coming round to borrow my RD500, modern bikes almost ride themselves, there's no "Nanny Systems" on these you really cannot beat a Proper bike ridden Properly.

Exactly my point, your friend wants to ride the RD because his 50 year old Kawasaki triple scares the crap out of him with 90mph tank-slappers. The H1 and H2 did come stock with a "nanny system" in the form of a mostly non-functioning steering damper.
That was all a bit too hipster lifestyle / shopping opportunity for me . Yep , let's just see the bike , preferably being thrashed and not just posed on .

Nice Bike but drilling the Kick Starter and other items for reduction of weight reasons then adding badges to the frame etc sort of defeats the purpose doesnt it?

Shoure , if it's geared so low that you're top end is 80 mph . Normally wheelie in 3rd, light feel in 4th. 115 mph top end. Highly massaged , Stock was 106 mph. I don't know about the Banchee thing

Had two RD 400 C models in 1977 & 1978. The second one i fitted a pair of
J & R chambers with some jetting mods.
The C model was made in 76’, I bought brand new and drove it all summer. Greatest ride ever.
Love it, but the music got in the way. My Princess & I have just built her a "StuntBike" an aluminium frame with a heavily modded RD125 engine it has the most insane torque on any little bike I have ever ridden, it's so good to see someone of the "Now" using a 2 stroke, it seems as they get overlooked far too much, they truly are the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

What a preety little bike, I say that because I'm building one that looks so very similar, apart from the engine, unfortunately mine is an FZR600, and not a two stroke from one of the best air cooled twins that were ever made.

Must have used the main gear from the RD clutch basket on a YZR or late model TZ clutch basket.
They make a dry clutch conversion kit!! It was that easy

WTF is this? More than half the video is a montage of clothes and sponsor adverts, super close up shots, and then we get to see someone "ride" the bike up and down the LA River at 20mph. What a treat.

No expert but the first year of production was 1976 for the RD400. Back then Gary at Spec II (in Burbank CA) was making RDs (and other bikes) fast. I do mean fast....not just quick.
