I first heard about this dress from someone who was asked "What fashion would a dragon wear?" and the answer of that dress was so hyper specific and accurate

All of your reveal reels are brilliant. :) All of your projects are so varied and interesting and so I am always suprised by what doesn't do well on YT. (Of course, youtube always says "find what works and NEVER STRAY FROM IT EVER EVER so maybe it was just that...but if you did that we'd never see the terrifying pumpkin monster or the amazing barbie bag so NO, UA-cam. You are going to be absolutely drowned in scales. I’ll ask my crafty friends to join in too, because it’s a simple project with so much leeway! As long as the tops can be sewn, they can be made of virtually anything!
The Community Project is such an amazing idea! For you and for US! Besides practicality (regarding the workload and time it would take for you), I really admire your openness for getting surprised and improvising and working with whatever you will get! Also, it is a lovely opportunity for "me and you" for participating and being a small piece in a Puzzle or mosaic!
Edit: I might have instantly gone looking for shiny and sparkly scraps of fabrics, ribbons and decoration material.

That's a beautiful idea! I'll be diving into my cabbage patch for sure. It's a same you don't need metal scales because I'm an armourer and I have a lot of brass sraps laying around.

I adored *all* of the Barbie things, and I know I sent that bag video to many friends because I loved it so much. The scale dress reminds me of Toothiana from the Rise of the Guardians movie! I love the community idea, but I also love the idea of each project you do getting a few scales (like the plaid barbie dress), like a mini-memory book.
The Barbie car purse was the best reveal and the public is wrong if it wasn't your best video
So so excited about the community project, I need to have a look at my fabric stash and see what kind of cool fabric I could find, also thank you for showing other possibilities such as rhinestones and pearls, it's a great way to try my hand at something I have never done !

When you use elf ears, you can make them look even more realistic if you put a little foundation and then powder your foundation and then some powder and you can totally do different things with them
I am so happy I discovered your channel a few months ago! You have been the source of much inspiration to this quirky American. I made a giant birthday cake shaped hat (that blew bubbles) to wear to my birthday festivities last year. After seeing your video, I have concluded that the only thing that can top a giant birthday cake shaped hat (that blows bubbles) is a giant birthday cake shaped dress (that may or may not blow bubbles), so that will be my project for the first part of the year. This comunity projekt is such a cool idea! The little scales could be a fun little side acticity, when I want something small to craft, but there is no brain left for the big projects. So I just rescued a handfull of scaps of shiney silver fabric from my scrap heap. Sometimes the hoarding pays off!
I'm so excited to make some scales for you!!! I will have a lot of leftover fabric scraps after finishing a cosplay costume I'm currently working on. The fabric is very shiny, and I have a lot of other shiny things I can add to them. This will actually really help me out because I wanted to test some new techniques, but don't want to waste materials. 🥰
What fantastic idea. I used to work for a fashion designer in Paris for over 5 years. She used to work for the Thierry Mugler before opening her own boutiques in Le Marais. She gave me loads of beautiful fabric scraps and échantillons that, after nearly 13 years, I've never done anything with. This seems like the perfect project to do them justice. Also, it a great way for me to get back into sewing. ❤
I love the community project idea! 💜 And yes I agree, that dress is THE BEST dress in the world. 👌 I will for sure participate in this project! Printing the patterns and putting them next to my sewing machine right away! Every time I have a cool shiny fabric on my desk in the upcoming 6-8 ish months I will make a scale or two, and make it pretty!

I love how accessible this project is for beginner sewers! Mine might be a little messy since I don’t have a sewing machine and will be stitching by hand, but I’m so excited to take part and bust my scrap horde !

This is sooo cooool! Finally some of my tiny shiny scraps can be pit to good use! One question: is it enough if the top half is "sewable"? I.e. when there are rhinestones or stuff like that embroidered on the fabric you won't be able to put that under the machine, but I assume you only need to sew on the top half to attach them to the base fabric, right?

Yes just the top will be sewn, that will give a bit of a movement on the rest!

Fun fact: Except the original runway model (Adriana Sklenarikova), the Chimera dress was worn by the one and only Anna Vissi (you might know her from Eurovision 2006 Greece) in one of her shows. Absolutely phenomenal!

As someone who lived through part of the 80s and remembers it and really remembers the 90s the pencil thing outfit is 90s not 80s that's like something from saved by the bell especially those wiggles on the background 80s was neon 90s was primary colors. The geometric shapes were 90s 80s was like triangle hats big huge everything hair that is out of this world gigantic earrings or barely anything being worn and the school theme of a pencil is definitely 90s not 80s 80s was small 90s was school see the difference between the two decades that I lived in. I was very much an 80s Fan even when I was young I loved 80s stuff I was old school even as a kid so I was in living memory of me being in it going back and looking at that stuff me seeing only the end trying to make sure I remembered it because I loved it And I remember stuff when I was like three years old so I have a few years in the 80s that I really remember well I have like half a decade that I remember distinctively from living in the 80s and then was very much trying to remember that stuff and trying to Keep it in my memory and keep it in my lifestyle for the last 30 years. I may only be a few years younger than you, but I am still a child of parents didn't really sup us the family movies we're not child friendly in our generation, so we were not watching just kids stuff from the 80s we were watching full on Same thing as our parents in the 80s and early 90s we watched R rated movies regularly my dad called me in to watch Molly Flanders with him that's a movie about a prostitute not a children's movie I was thinking I was gonna show my daughter this movie I loved growing up no I wouldn't show it to her till she was in her teens like 15 or 16 and I thought oh she was like eight years old nine years old. I watched it again. My parents didn't care. I was probably like five or six when I watched it. I just saw it on Netflix when she was eight I showed my husband movies that I was like oh this is so great. Got the movie and then watched it. I was like cringe because my husband is Mr. Rogers and I showed Mr. Rogers one step off of porn as a cute movie. I remembered from when I was a kid though after I did the thing the first time I went all out and just showed him movies I liked as a kid that I knew were Ronchi four or later is child friendly when it comes to police Academy 1,2,and 3 they should be teenagers that may have also been part of why I watched police Academy, and was surprised at how not for children appropriate it was when I watched it again years later also funny thing, the public television when I was a kid had less the child you didn't pay for had less editing, then the challenge you paid for unless you paid extra for it on top of your regular cable bill it's like if you got it for free these words were not edited out. If you paid for it in a bundle, these words were edited out, but they would take out the new Td on both and then if you paid extra like HBO Showtime Cinemax, you could see everything including the new date watch show on all three channels, and it was weird seeing the cuss words not edited out on Fox or something which even if you didn't have cable you could still get foxthen on USA they cut out a word and you hear a blank then you'd see nudity and hear the word again on HBO. It was confusing but funny.

The Barbie car handbag is my all time favourite video. I love the entire process, and the reveal is brilliant and makes me happy. I watch it when I'm cranky, or need some inspiration. A definite comfort watch for me! Also, I think you're about to receive a shit tonne of scales!

My favorite was the witch. It was such a complete outfit and so eye catching. I would love to see a version 2.0 on the pumpkin dress. It was an ambitious idea. You picked a perfect project for the community. Simple enough for everyone to contribute and still allow individual creativity.

It did take me a while to watch the video after I found your channel a month ago, because I naturally gravitate more towards garment-sewing content, but once I just decided to watch everything because everything you make is so entertaining, I was so happy I did. I've made some prototype scales from various thermoplastic, leather, fabric covered plastic spoons as well as ready made metal scales. The larger scales specifically benefit from structure. I imagine I'll really struggle with the corset part.
One day I'll be able to afford all the materials...
You can buy ready made scalemail scales in plenty colours,as well as some foam ones. Leather ones can be cut faster using a cutter maybe for belt ends, there's several shapes to choose from too. The smaller metallic pieces could be cut from aluminium or brass 0.5 mm foil as it cuts with good scissors and is fabulously easy to bend and shape.
Can't wait to see the results!
Ok. I started making templates for medium and biggest size and started cutting out from fabric scraps. You will definitely get more than 5 scales!
I loved the Barbie project and the reveal was truly chef's kiss! Also I have so many sparkly textured fabrics that aren't enough for a full outfit but as a fabric hoarder couldn't get rid of them! Have you considered chainmail scales? They are sold already made and they could be useful as an additional material for the dress

I stumbled upon you out of nowhere (searching up a lot of swing tutorials probably had nothing to do with it XD) But omg I can feel your pain, I decided that As an introduction to sewing I Will make a dragon shoulder puppet and scale the whole 2,5m long thing...i lost county around 2 thousand individualy cut, shaped and painted eva foam scales and it's still not enough XD Best of luck with your project ^^ ❤
You should do YT shorts out of your reveals! The work is done already, just choose a 10-15 seconds cut of it, a sentence on the top and here we go, the UA-cam algorithm loves the shorts, needs it! One reveal could even be more than one short. The Barbie reveal was amazing loved it almost as much as the Marie-Antoinette’s pockets one…
It’s been years since I have seen that dress, I fell in love with it back then because of all them scales, it made me think of dragons the first time I had seen it.
