***** What I would do to afford that. I'll be one of the guys playing alongside you, Dufour, Bennett, etc....in time. Thank you for this arrangement, now I have yet another song to learn when my Emerald Guitars custom 24 string harp guitar arrives.
I keep coming back to this video. I stop everything I'm doing, which I rarely do, and just listen, this is one of the two pieces of music I guess I meditate to, beautiful...
This is, hands down, one of the best music performances on this entire platform. Not only on a technical level, but especially when it comes to the nostalgia and warmth that oozes out of every note. Wow!
everyone posting skyrim and oblivion quotes makes me weirdly emotional, hearing this play while scrolling through comments and reading the quotes that guards and citizens of towns say that you guys are commenting reminds of the insanely phenomenal times i've had with this game, the feeling of being alone in a world inhabited by people unlike me to a game where i can immerse myself into any role is simply one of the best feelings ever
+Jon Richards That would be amazing if someone did that and I would if I had the money... only the rich make fantasy a reality and only the poor can dream : /
Even after all these years, hearing this melody brings me back to the safety of Whiterun. The safety of my younger years, before my eyes became too open for comfort. Amid a world gone crazy, with all of Tamriel ravaged by the Thieves' Guild, countless slain by the Dark Brotherhood, and all of this overlooked by a corrupt empire; with my Nordic homeland of Skyrim divided by race and a bloody civil war, with dragons appearing as if from Oblivion itself, Whiterun was where I called home. I was a respected Thane, with Lydia by my side, and my beautiful wife Silja baking me pies in our humble breezehome. I hummed this very melody to myself as I walked by the beautiful Gildergreen, hearing the Talos worshiper shouting in the courtyard. Nazeem never failed to greet me with his sarcastic quips. Nazeem, if you are reading this...if you're still out there, indeed I get to the Cloud District often, and it was once a place where all of my troubles were softly abated without fail. I'm sorry, my dear Whiterun. I'm sorry for leaving you for such long spells. I'm sorry for joining the Stormcloaks. I'm sorry for laying waste to the only place where the cobbled roads knew me better than I knew them. A place where Nord, Imperial, Breton, Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer, Orsimer, Argonian and Khajiit were welcome with open arms. A pox on it, hearing this tune weakens me as if I had taken an arrow to the knee.
May the 9 divines forgive you, and may ex-Jarl Balgruuf forgive you as well. May your sword be true and your soul fly straight as an arrow. Good day, my brother in arms.
This is the only cover I’ve heard that not only does justice to the original, but completely captures the feeling. Only someone who’s spent a fair amount of time wandering Tamriel could do it.
J. Soule's songs are fantastic and this cover is perfect. It must be very hard to pick such a symphonic song and transpose it into a guitar, while retaining all the calm feelings created by this kind of atmospheric music. But well, it's Andy McKee, you're an amazing fellow.
Oh my God please do an album like this, that would actually be the best thing ever! You could do a bunch of elder scrolls tunes and zelda and oh my god please!
same same.. makes me think of how life goes fast.. dog died.. been 10 years since skyrim released.. time waits for no one and now in this pandemic it doesnt seem like we can even have a meaningful fulfilling life
Reading all the coments, people impersonating citizen of skyrim, made my tears drop.. Mr.Andy create some nostalgic melody and the comments made me recall every moments in skyrim.. the only game i ever play with wonderful experience.. thanks people ! And thanks Mr.Andy !
When I first played Skyrim and this song came on, I was stunned. I listened in a spell as the camera panned around my character in a field outside Whiterun. That's when Skyrim became my favorite game of all time.
Man I've been listening to this sound track over and over since the game came out as a means of concentrating and escaping the negative things in life, I have the whole thing internalized. Watching and hearing this video just after losing a family member in an accident brought everything to a head for me, completely broke me down, gave me the release I needed. So beautiful man, your work is amazing. Thankyou.
Hey Andy, you probably won’t see this, but this performance is one of the greatest guitar pieces performed of all time... Jeremy Soule should be so lucky to have you play all of his beautiful compositions. Bravo. Been listening to it for 5 years now.
Dear Andy, I probably should call you Mr. Mckee, but after having listened to your songs so very often it would simply feel too detached even though you don't know me. As a musician you most likely know the feeling when listening to a song which just perfectly fits the situation you are in. It is beautiful and sad. Thank you for what you are doing!
I was living with my grandpa when this game came out, I hadn’t played an elder scrolls game before but I had played fallout 3 and new Vegas so I was ready for another Bethesda game. My dad got it so when I visited his house over the weekend I played it and instantly fell in love. He ended up buying it for me and I put so many hours into the game. It’s now that every time I install a new mod, I’m trying to recreate that feeling. Not just of playing Skyrim for the first time, but being happy. Now that my grandpas gone I keep holding on to anything that reminds me of that time.
My heart feels like it is weightless as this heavenly music makes me feel like I am actually walking the streets of Whiterun... and that inner heroic warrior strength to keep going through all hardships. Aside from that I played this video with my window open and the owls in the woods outside are going nuts! I guess they really loved you playing this beautiful music too, lol! : D
I really appreciate that you decided to convert the pitch and make it microtonal. Streets of Whiterun was originally composed as a microtonal piece. Because many instruments cannot play microtones, a lot of the other covers of this song on UA-cam are in E Major, the closest semitone. Thank you. Adding that microtone factor really added to the effect of the original composition, and I'm glad that you took the time out to ensure that your cover was in the same microtone.
Its 5 years since you’ve posted this video but if you happen to read this I wanna say thank you once again for arguably the most beautiful cover to any OST I’ve ever heard. 🙏🏻
The first time I heard Gates Of Gnomeria, I immediately thought that Andy could easily make a whole soundtrack and it would be awesome in an aventure/role playing game. I even used it for a classic Dungeons & Dragons session ! But with this cover... I'm now more sure than ever he should absolutely take part in this kind of thing...
It's hard to make a cover sound better than the original, but you have, and that's saying something considering streets of whiterun is my favourite piece from skyrim, I just want to wander with this playing in the background
I heard that Andy did a cover of this song while I was listening to the original. I immediately dropped everything to come here. This is as pure and amazing as the first time I heard the original in Skyrim. I'm so thankful that this exists, it's absolutely incredible. Thanks Andy!
Would love to see you cover some of the tunes from Oblivion. That'd bring back some nostalgia. Also I've gotta say, I love how harmonically rich this particular piece is, I've never heard something so saturated with harmony in my life.
i keep finding myself coming back to listen to this cover. Such a fantastic piece of music. The little personal touch plus the sound of that Harp Guitar. absolutely perfect.
I would wake up at 5am every school day and play skyrim for an hour and a half before going to school. Then play more when I get home. Good times. This song brings back so much happiness.
Holy crap!! GUYS!!! I found a video of Andy McKee playing a Skyrim track!! Is it my birthday?!? I used to play Andy's stuff stuff in the background off my hard dive while I played Skyrim on the Xbox 360.... can't believe I never knew he did "Streets of Whiterun"... sick!
And all these years later, I still keep coming back to the Streets of Whiterun. Something transcendent about this. A time lost that can only ever be remembered, glimpsed like through a crack. This song, this cover, opens that gap just a few more measly inches, and it means the world to me. So thank you.
Andy Mckee is a true composer. I've listened to the original piece numerous times and Andy as always, transcribed this PERFECTLY. Notes to notes, chord progression, and fine details are fully transparent. It's fucking flawless. It's amazing what you can do with a single instrument.
Andy, after spending 200+ hours becoming a Millionaire-badass-dragon-slaying-mage-werewolf-potions master, i still need to resist the urge to go back and play the game when i hear this. I think the soundtrack was such a huge part of why i started playing and loved the game so much. Many other trained musicians i know seem to agree with this. I love how you made the piece your own.
Even me, a humble guard has to adore your cover.

nice to see you here m8, i come back to this all the time, so good
Andy's one of those next -level musicians man, so gooood
Heard they're reforming the dawnguard. Vampire hunters of something, up in the old fort by Riften.
Nolan Gimpel might consider joining up myself!
I heard a rumor..
What’s the matter? Someone stole your sweet roll?
Get to the cloud district very often? Oh what am I saying of course you don't.
Have you seen those warriors from Hammerfell? They have curved swords.
CURVED SWORDS.
Is that a Daedric artifact?
Mm, quite the opposite... A blessed gift from the Nine Divine!!
I could imagine this being Dibella's artifact.
Its most likely a blessing from Kynareth
The Sapling man, the sapling from kynerath tree he didn't return it to whiterun instead made this artifact from it which produces kyne's voice.
Wish you all the best ♡ Such a nice comment ♡
