90% of these sonic fan games using digital swirl end up just being sonic onset reskins they change nothing about the gameplay or bring anything new, i have only seen a small amount of people actually use this framework to make something new. it’s just how the average open source framework lifespan goes really, it happened to a lot of unity sonic frameworks, it happened to sound engine, it happens to any open source framework. that’s to be expected from something like this, yeah it sucks and i wish it was different but i know one day someone will learn from digital swirl and make something great with it

I agree with most of the things you've said, also thanks for letting me help you find the games for this video; I feel like the Sonic Roblox Community needed a wakeup call on just putting the digital swirl radical build in their game and not changing anything, games like Sonic Chaos Convergence and Sonic Style Framework need more love, because they actually improve upon it, but these games on this video haven't done nothing to change anything, just a bland baseplate just like the Sound Engine. But to remedy this, people either need to improve on the engine or make their own, there's no inbetween, and it's sad as well because this engine has tons of potential, but if it's used like this it'll just ruin it.

The problem with most of these "games" is they're not even games. Most of these very, VERY WIP builds are just shit slapped together under a title that has no relevance to the project whatsoever. Df is an Exem yall im DONE LMAOSAON. There's no direction, no purpose and quite literally nothing unique or distinguishable about these projects. I don't personally know the creators, but if I had to guess, we're probably talking about a bunch of kids slapping whatever they can together to make something "cool". Which is fine to a degree, but can be quite demotivating for others who genuinely want to put effort into their projects because they're being overshadowed by whatever the hell these things are.

Hey! I still thank you a lot of playing my Digital Swirl game before the Digital Swirl engine started getting to sound engine levels of overused. When I first started working on SSRA there was only 1 other digital swirl game that was public and not made by SOA. I was the second person to have a game using the engine publicly, but even still I spent the time to try to set it up myself, design my own HUD, and tried modifying it to the best of my abilities. I recently updated the game to try to work on it again, but the code base is still too hard to understand since the Digital Swirl engine was open sourced with no documentation (as a developer if you are gonna open source stuff you gotta have some documentation). But i'm now done updating the game and leaving it as is. And also I want to give a update on my developer status. I'm leaving the roblox sonic community over personal and other reasons. I have autism and a lot of people in the community harass me because I act immature at times. It's shown to me that this community as toxic and i'd rather work on my own original projects. Along with the fact I graduated high school today and am heading off to college, it's honestly the best choice since I can't be making money if i'm making sonic games. I'd like to thank everyone in this community who helped me improve as a developer along the way, and i'd like to thank you for shouting out my projects, I really needed it. Thanks AeroGX, thank you.

I've been trying to remodify the digital swirl engine and really just make it feel like it's own thing instead of an average swirl game. I'm remaking it so that it will include its own model instead of just the average generations model and include different stages, and unique level design. I really want to make it feel unique compared to other digital swirl games. I don't want it to become another skin simulator. I'm pretty sure games like these piss off digi and cucky too lmao

Most digi swirl games i see is just a framework with gui and startercharacter changed and its just stupid at this point. It bugs me each time I see one of them. I have only honestly seen a few digi swirl games with their own menu and more then a framework (Noob adventure is an example of what i mean) and as someone who makes digi swirl games myself, games that barely change anything are bad. It doesnt even have to be a big huge change as long as its like, a stage and even a slightly good menu I let it slide.
I absolutely agree with these points and appreciate the actual constructive criticism here. I actually gave suggestions to the creator of Sonic Beyond Ultimate to alter the controls of the digital swirl engine in that game, I also made an entirely new map for this game to give some more entertainment and identity for SBU. Now, I'm not promising anything because 101% of Roblox Sonic games get canceled right after they're made, however, many plans for this game are in development (wish me luck cause the main dev is a little bit lazy) like a story, new levels and characters to unlock in said levels. Back on topic though haha, I think that a lot of people who make digital swirl games only use the engine and rough out a test area ONLY FOR ATTENTION, cause you know many UA-camrs can cover these games and a lot of people only make games for that reason instead of you know... MAKING A VIDEO GAME!
To make a Sonic fan-game work is to make it stand out compared to the others, slapping the pre-made build of Digi Swirl and calling it a day is just boring and repetitive, there is always a lack in originality, and it's always layered over some crappy model, if you plan to make a Digital Swirl game, modify the engine, or add something new to the table, ANYTHING! Just make sure it's original. Edit: The "kindergarten" UI is the pre-made one to avoid copyright from Digital Swirl themselves.

In the first place the rings are just an image taken from google images. The people that use digital swirl are learning how to animate and code. Heck some people dont know how to write a single line of code and when they figure out how to use digital swirl and become a popular game developer they will probably be overjoyed and videos like this are discouraging young developers.
