I started practicing the no till food plot planting methods about 10 years ago. I learned from a farmer that was spraying and seeding by an airplane…watched everything I could back in the day on UA-cam and I can honestly say I leaned the most from you Jeff. Thanks for sharing your information and instructions with us ✅💥✌️

Jeff, working with a local farmer that farms part of my property. If you need to spray weeds and are in a time crunch to get your seeds planted, he is recommending using Sharpen (very expensive) or Liberty. This way you don't need to wait 2 weeks like oyu do when using 2-4D in conjunction with Glyphosate. Also, if you need to till you only need to wait 2 days then are able to till in the weeds. Almost as important, he is now using AMS everytime he sprays herbicide. He even has eliminated the surfactant and crop oil because the AMS works so well. He uses AMS on the heavy side (use max amount recommended). Hope this helps.
Great video! Dam squirrels for me are wiping out my peas! Went down to my plot and saw 3 squirrels sitting on stumps eating my peas like apples! They just started germinating and the little $hits yank em right up! Thanks for the tips!
Jeff a buckwheat plot failed and weeds took over this year so I killed waited a week and threw peas, buckwheat, light beans and tillage radish right on ground before 2" soaker,, now the turkeys are on it,, I'm heading out there now to throw a bunch of fertilizer/lime on top to camouflage seed and make them work for it lol, Think it will work?
U know I have the tractors and all the equipment but don't use them in any of my plots other than the planter for my screen because I like planting the high sorghum close so the wind and snow can't knock it down. The first year I started the no till system I did plow deep just 2 loosen the ground since that a heavy tractor hasn't been on the fields. And yes u need 2 spray. That deep plowing brought up so many seeds it took me 2 years of fighting them. Now I just let the brassica do my tilling on half 1 year then the other half the following year. Anyone say your method doesn't work need to do there homework. Another great video
Seriously need some help. First time making a food plot. About 1/2 acre all tilled up and planted. Everything has been growing the last 2 weeks without issue. Though the grasshoppers are insane this year destroying everything green and nothing can grow more than an inch before they gobble it up. I’ve sprayed pesticide all around the plot but about 1-2 days later there back. Should I just cut my losses before the season has even begun. I’ve never seen the grasshoppers this bad for decades. Thanks for any help. Up here in South Dakota.
I hunt public lands in NW Pa. I live in the woods next to these lands. I have found spaces that would make great plots. What do recommend to broadcast without being able to work the ground. I can spray weeds and then spread seed. You can’t use power equipment on public lands. Thanks DaveDbest

I’ve got quite a bit of weeds and grasses coming through my summer crop. How & when should I terminate these weeds/grasses to get the best fall planting outcomes? Thanks for all your videos & information!
Have conjured up a solution of spraying offset from switch edge and then doing a final lap with a wand that the sprayer also has. Works great and can spot spray if there's anything inside of the switch!
I need to create turkey habitat on our 20 acres in Traverse City, we had a flock and they left we have pretty solid predator control also only get about one coyote or fox a month on 5 cell cams
I had already bought my seed from John back in June-July. Ill try out your seed blends next year, if I can. Edit- scratch that. I bought a bag of the greens today. Haha
With the drought, some screening is finally starting and I'm afraid to gly with the rye. I've succeeded in growing grass though! No sign of the WHS blend coming up either.
Jeff, how are you planting the buckwheat in the summer? I don’t recall any videos where you specifically talk about this. Are you just broadcasting into whatever is in the plot and then spraying?
Hey Jeff. I installed a couple of water tanks in my parcel and I absolutely love them. I have one question however. How do you keep the water open in the winter? Or is this not important Thanks
Thanks for another awesome, educational video. We did our home garden as no-till this year; even with the current Oklahoma drought, its the best garden we’ve even had. This year I’m doing your no-till food plot method. Can’t wait to see the results!! Thanks again.
Just obtained a new property in Alabama. Old cow farm with field after field of Baha’i a grass. Sept 15 planting date. Do you suggest buck wheat now and follow up with trying to roll it and spraying then follow with small winter seed around oct 1? We usually have dry weather in late Sept. Baha’ia (sp check) is real thick. Many thanks love your vlog.
Jeff, I understand the purpose to use buckwheat as smother crop and soil building, do you do anything to help antler growth in spring? I can't recall many videos when you mention that cause you always want to build your herd late summer and fall. Thanks Joe
Hi Joseph, there is very little evidence that you can do anything in a free ranging herd to change antler growth...even with minerals. So I truly try and focus on age, as the biggest factor in antler growth comes from the soil.
Hooray! Happy Friday Fellas. My Honey spread the seed, I sprayed Plot-Start. Super nice thunderstorms all day! Do you spray fertilizer right away, or wait until there is growth?
That's awesome Naomi...great job and timing!! I fertilizer the same day...then Urea later on the brassicas. 75#s 46-0-0 about 4 weeks after planting and before rain.
It's too late for me to plant buck wheat before my plot this year. When would you recommend planting buck wheat next year. I want to put a plot in before summer sometime in the spring. Is buck wheat an option before planting for spring?
Hey Jeff love your videos watch them all. Trying to plan out my plots for next year and wondering what exactly you mean when you say 2qt per acre of glyphosate. If I’m using a concentrated roundup at 51% glyphosate by volume does that mean I need actually 4qt per acre of that roundup?
Didnt you say in previous videos to spray at the same time as planting? I remember you mentioning that the chemicals are inert on e they hit soil and other arguments that sounded rational. Here, you said to wait 10 days, which i understand is what the instructions say on the glyphosate. I am now confused. Please advise.
First year switchgrass planting looking pretty sparse. Quite a bit of weed competition. I mowed about 3 weeks ago. Would you recommend mowing again? Thanks!
August is switch grass best growing time . So it out competes weeds in Aug. . I mowed May June and July 1st. And have a great stand ! ( Jeff's recommendation )
With a new plot in mature hardwoods where soil test shows very little NPK, would you plant, kill, Packermax buckwheat in the spring and fall in order to build the soil even more than a fall buckwheat planting, etc.? I’m developing plots next spring on pretty nutrient barren mature hardwood soil. I do/will use Plot Start and Plot Boost as I did this year without fertilizer or buckwheat because I got such a late start.
One thing that I’m not clear on is what to do between early spring and planting buckwheat in July. I’m in southern MO, and my rye will be 8-10 inches by early April. Am I just killing it off in April and spraying weeds 2-3 times until July when I plant buckwheat 7 weeks ahead of brassicas?
Just planted monday night in NH as we got some rain finally. Unfortunately we wont have rain again until next monday. Will my seeds fail with having a full week of no rain?
Jeff, you have been very clear about being able to spray glyphosate after smashing the buckwheat onto your brassica seeds. But what about spraying onto cereal grain seeds? Thanks
I’ll take an answer from anyone honestly. Have any of you guys in the comments sprayed gly on your cereal grain seeds using this UNT? We did UNT last year and our brassicas turned out great but I’m doing 1 cereal grain plot and just needed some clarification
To the sprayer haters.... If you don't like Jeff's process to his food plot by using chemicals then it's a real simple solution. DON'T WATCH HIS VIDEOS! There are plenty other channels to watch. Don't make snarky comments and hide behind the internet. Alot of us out here enjoy Jeff's information and we don't need haters ruining the experience with stupid comments. As I said, simple solution... Go to a different channel. Great video Jeff and Dylan. Keep up the good work and keep spraying those weeds!
I’ve been finding buckwheat is around 19.99$ per 1kg. With just one acre you need 52kg of buckwheat. That’s over 1,000$ an acre. Love the idea of using it but for that cost. Is there something better?
Stupid question probably…why are you running over your plot with the packer maxx? Just curious, I’m new to learning about food plots. I have 40 acres of my own with 1 acre opened up and want to plant a food plot for bowhunting. Thanks
When you add plot boost to your plots, do you use the same sprayer tank you used with your glyphosate or do you switch it out to avoid accidentally spraying your food plots with herbicides?
Jeff, have you seen or used the packermaxx cultipack/crimper combo? Gly has doubled in price. Was wondering if it would be a good investment and alternative to terminate for no till .
According to the guys at Packermaxx Jeff has the crimper attchment. He got it last year but he hasn't put out any videos or comments about it. Hopefully he gives us an answer on here.
I have the crimper and it works BUT I wouldn't plan on getting away from gly. I will crimp and spray depending on the plot. Crimper attachment isn't perfect and could use some modifications if the packermaxx guys want to consult with my design skills😁
Jeff: what is your approach for the time between terminating winter rye and the broadcasting of buckwheat in terms of soil preservation / weed prevention? Or do you terminate the winter rye as you broadcast buckwheat into the rye which allows for continual coverage all year (winter rye > buckwheat > fall food plot > repeat leading into next year)? You reference a bit around the 8:45 mark of video. Thanks!
Tyler I believe he is taking out the rye a month or so prior to planting buckwheat (he got buckwheat out a bit later this year). But basically when the rye starts taking off the deer aren't hitting it anymore due to spring Greenup and it needs to go. If you're monitoring rye and isn't getting to those unruly heights even into mid May maybe you could leave it an monitor....but this will probably not be the case. Mow or (spray) but I would also consider spraying at the time of buckwheat going out if there is active weed growth.
@@alexpinnow6509 thanks for the response, great information / advice. Thinking that if everything could work out just so a person could have soil coverage in some way via a planting 365 days straight. Appears to be an approximate 1-2 month gap between termination of rye to planting of buckwheat (damn!)
@@tylerscholand4734 from my experience that gap might be good believe it or not. I have had competition with my buckwheat because I've tried to do as you mentioned. Give it a go but don't be surprised if you get some 'variety' in with that buckwheat
Hi Jeff love your videos huge help for someone like me who doesn't come from a hunting family. Just wondering how you feel about mineral licks are they useful or just a waste of money?
Jeff, I know you've talked about applying nitrogen on brasika at about 35lbs per acre about 2 weeks after planting. Can the same method be used for both liquid and pelatized urea nitrogen?
What would you recommend for a buckwheat planting date in sandy soil during normally hot and dry summers? I’m in NE OK and 4/6 of my plots are within 100 yards of a large creek so the soil drains quickly. I typically plant brassicas August 20-30 and cereal grains early - mid September.
The earthway is ok..it seems to have a smooth crank too it. My one issue is my thumb gets really sore (maybe I need to lift more weights) and the mechanism likes to come over the stop so it is opening up further than I have it set to. I don't know if anyone else has these issues.
Jeff, I put in a water hole in June. Filled it with tap water. Im afraid the deer aren’t touching it because of the chemical smells. What type of water do you use? We have heavy chlorine. I don’t think I’ve heard this mentioned before. Thank you
I personally used tap water but heard a few videos he mentioned dirt in the bottom and stir it up, I did and they hit mine everyday now. Hope that helps 🤙
@@tnoutdoorsmen I put a decent amount of dirt in it when I put it in and still nothing. They come through everyday; hit the licking branch but never see them hit the water hole
@@Austin-uq9ms wait and see how that waterhole does when your pre-rut timing is. Realize that deer get a large majority of water from the green foliage they are consuming this time of year.
I just got my soil test back, my ph is 5.6, P=11 ppm, k=23ppm, and Mg=251.. the report says to add 3 ton of lime. Is it too late to add lime? I have plot start (2.5G) and would like to add lime for long term PH levels. Can i do both? Plot start for short term, and pelletized for longer term? And can i no till the seed (your greens blend) right along with the lime at the same time? Seems like a lot of lime and fertilizer on top of the soil at once for the seed to grow in.. love the content and i appreciate your guidance
@Number 1 Western Fan thanks for the reply, will the layer of lime prevent the seed from growing or impact the germination negatively? Would it be better to lime in the spring and just use the plot start this fall?
Jeff can you please do a no-till spring turkey kill plot video too? I really think if you did a really good series on building turkey flocks in the south from the no till food plot perspective it could be massively popular with our population decline problems. I typed all of this five seconds before you guys started talking 💩 about turkeys 🤣

We get paid for planting a cover crop here in Clayton County Iowa and be happy allot of farmers don't do it. My food plots that r along our set aside field pull in deer because there pretty far from our crop fields and green but our big ag fields are full of deer all winter because of the winter rye and radishes and there big enough that they have plenty of room not to stress each other. I wish I could share pics here. The fields look like a cattle yard they get hit that hard makes it hard 2 bow hunt because they enter in so many places but u made it easier by the mock scrape and water holes.
Jeff, what's your outlook on the future of glyphosate since it's been found in the urine of 80% of adults and children? I'm 63 and been using roundup my entire life but its looking like the government is going to come down hard on the stuff. I'm sure it's because of big money coming from environmental lobbyist but it seems to be getting a lot of attention from the CDC again.

The earthway is ok..it seems to have a smooth crank too it. My one issue is my thumb gets really sore (maybe I need to lift more weights) and the mechanism likes to come over the stop so it is opening up further than I have it set to. I don't know if anyone else has these issues.
Hey Jeff what would your spray mix ratio be on a 1/4 acre spray? 4oz 2,4d and 16oz gly?
No 2,4-D when spraying crushed buckwheat or you will kill your seed you just put down. Read labels please
So it’s a little too late to get buckwheat down? (SE Nebraska….it’s that state you never mention)
Will buckwheat smother out wild blackberry?
@Number 1 Western Fan i agree
@Number 1 Western Fan thanks for the advice.
Ready to plant some brassica into buckwheat but I seem to have more weeds than I anticipated. Ok to plant then roll then spray? Anyone?
Hey yes I would still go ahead ! We had some weeds as well but with good moisture you'll be good 👍 !
Do I have a failure.. don’t put your quad into the shop a week before planting date I won’t be getting it back until August 24
Boot work !
Can you do no till with dove fields
Jeff can you please do a no-till spring turkey kill plot video too? I really think if you did a really good series on building turkey flocks in the south from the no till food plot perspective it could be massively popular with our population decline problems.
I typed all of this five seconds before you guys started talking 💩 about turkeys 🤣
I'm thinking Dillon has some kinda art work on Jeff's refrigerator! Lol
Right on schedule here!
Where are we suppose to be using/planting switch grass in the equation
I’d love to see a “how to” poor man or atv food plot.. great information
Thanks Reed! I have lots of videos like thst...just have to search for them and they come up near the top. Check put this one 😊

What do you consider poor soil? My ph is around 7.0 but nitrogen and everything else is lacking
what are you spraying on the buckwheat?
What do you do about weeds if you plow?
Good stuff thank you
Let’s go Jeff hey can I send you a pic of my land and you go over it and give me a opinion about how to plant a food plot on it
Hi Tyler! Now I wish you could...I only help by visiting clients or thru the videos...wish I had that kind of time!
Weed killer changed the game 20+ years ago when I first discovered it.
Truck tires for me!
WOO HOOO
😊
@Number 1 Western Fan right ! Early lately
I could use some turkey elimination in Kentucky. They ate all my sunflower seeds this year. Hit me up Dillion.

Especially THIS govt ! 👍🏼
But I want an $80k tractor and a $20k grain drill and need an excuse.
BEEEEER....
Thanks Jeff!
